Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The setting of "The Wolf Among Us" is Fabletown, where characters from folklore and fairy tales live in the modern world. Fabletown is a neighborhood of what modern American city?

Answer: New York City

"The Wolf Among Us" is a prequel to the 2002-2015 comic book series "Fables", in which "fictional" characters known as "Fables" are real. The Fables have been forced out of their Homelands by The Adversary, and now live among "Mundys", the mundane inhabitants of earth.

The neighborhood of Fabletown is located on Bullfinch Street, between Andersen Street and Kipling Street in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It has magical wards and protections that let the inhabitants live and work without much notice from the Mundys... for the most part, at least. The events of "The Wolf Among Us" sometimes take place outside of this protected neighborhood.
2. In the game, you play Bigby, the sheriff of Fabletown. Which character of folklore is Bigby?

Answer: Big Bad Wolf

Bigby Wolf is the sheriff of Fabletown. Although he signed the Fabletown Compact (along with every other Fable) granting him amnesty for his past crimes, Bigby is still feared by most of the animal-like Fables on the Farm and is forbidden to go there.

The son of the North Wind, he has some control over winds (such as huffing and puffing to blow down the homes of the three little pigs). He can also change forms between a man, a wolf-man, and a giant wolf. His relationship with Snow White (and their children) is a major part of most of the stories in "Fables".
3. Early in the game, Bigby is called to the run-down apartment building that Toad manages. Who is causing a disturbance?

Answer: Woody

"Woody" the Woodsman has a history with Bigby: he was the Woodsman who saved Little Red Riding Hood from the wolf. However, he feels guilty about being the hero of that story, since he was only going to the grandmother's house to rob her. Finding the wolf there already, it was an accident of circumstance that turned him into a hero.

Toad and his son Toad Jr. (TJ) are important characters in "The Wolf Among Us". Not only do they witness key events and move the plot along, but their inability to afford the necessary glamours to appear human is one of the moral dilemmas presented by the game.

The official glamours are beyond their financial means, so should they be using un-official glamours provided by the black market? Are the rules of Fabletown set up against them? Is the Crooked Man a criminal, or a revolutionary?
4. Fables who look human, either normally or through magical glamours, live in Fabletown. Those Fables who don't look human or can't afford the glamours must live somewhere else. Where do they live?

Answer: the Farm

While the Farm has space, is generally a nice place to live, and is not technically a prison, many of the Fables confined to the Farm resent not being able to leave. The Fables there cannot afford to pay for a glamour, and don't have legitimate opportunities to earn the money to do so.

Therefore, it's no wonder that Toad does not want to be sent there, that TJ is scared of the place (with ogres running around, it sounds scary!) and that Colin the pig keeps running away from the Farm.

While the picture is of a wind farm, the Farm is much more traditional, with plenty of wooded areas for the Fables to live. At the time of the game, the Valley of the Big Sleepers is occupied by three giants and a dragon. All four are kept in a magical sleep due to the dangers their size presents.
5. During his investigation, Bigby finds a rogue witch who makes illegal glamours. Who is she?

Answer: Aunty Greenleaf

Most Fables witches are part of the "13th Floor", working for the government performing official magic spells for the protection and security of Fabletown.

Aunty Greenleaf exists outside that group, using a magic tree from the Homelands to craft her magic. During the game, Bigby must decide on how to deal with this illegal magic. Some of the choices are to hire Greenleaf as part of the 13th Floor or to burn her magic tree.

Aunty Greenleaf is the main character in the story "Aunty Greenleaf and the White Deer", a folk tale local to Brookhaven, New York.
6. While King Cole may be the popular mayor of Fabletown, the real work of running the town falls to his deputy mayor. Who is the deputy mayor in "The Wolf Among Us"?

Answer: Ichabod Crane

Ichabod Crane is not a pleasant person, and is in debt to the Crooked Man. While figuring out exactly what Crane has been doing is part of the game, his crimes of embezzlement and corruption eventually lead him to abandon his post and flee to Paris. His former assistant Snow White then takes over as Deputy Mayor.

While the original bridge in the story of "Sleepy Hollow" no longer exists, there are several picturesque bridges in the area, such as this "Headless Horseman Bridge".
7. Who is the Assistant Deputy Mayor and future love interest for Bigby? Too bad her severed head is found at the end of Chapter One.

Answer: Snow White

While her death upsets both Bigby and Ichabod Crane, she is still very much alive. The deceased was Lily, a troll prostitute that used glamours to appear as different people for her customers.

It's a good thing she didn't die in this prequel, as she she is a main character in the comic book!

A poisoned apple is an important element in the story of Snow White.
8. Another Fable who works in the Fabletown Business Office and helps Bigby is Bufkin, who comes from the Land of Oz. Who is Bufkin?

Answer: Winged Monkey

Bufkin is lazy, but he's the only one who can find anything in the records and archives of Fabletown. He spends as much time as he can drinking the mayor's wine and reading books in the library.

Bufkin knows more than he is supposed to, and may accidentally mention things that help Bigby make sense of the clues he's found. Bufkin also knows how the different magic artifacts of Fabletown work, such as making sure you rhyme in order to use the Magic Mirror.
9. The Trip Trap is a Fable-friendly bar owned by Holly, who uses glamours to appear human. Her sister Lily uses glamours as well, and is killed as a result. What sort of creatures are Holly and Lily?

Answer: trolls

Holly has a hard time dealing with her sister Lily's death. On the one hand, Lily made poor choices and was killed as a result. On the other hand, trolls have limited opportunities in the Mundy world, so Holly has a lot of resentment at the rules and those who enforce them, specifically Bigby and Snow White.

One of the choices in the game is how to deal with Holly's request for Lily's body, in order to give her sister a traditional funeral service.

In "The Three Billy Goats Gruff", the goats go "trip, trap" as they cross the troll's bridge.
10. One of the Crooked Man's enforcers, this femme fatale is an accomplished fighter and manages to severely wound Bigby. She also has an unusual relationship with mirrors. Who is she?

Answer: Bloody Mary

While the legend of Bloody Mary has evolved, most involve repeating her name three times into a mirror in a dimly-lit room.

In the game, the Magic Mirror has trouble scrying upon her, and because she held the shard of the broken mirror it will take longer to heal.

A "Bloody Mary" is also a cocktail primarily made up of tomato juice and vodka with other ingredients.
