Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of the first major changes to 'Civilization V' was the changing of the map grid. Gone is the traditional square grid for this new shape. What did they go for instead?

Answer: Hexagonal Grid

The choice of the hexagonal grid does a few things. The shape allows for new curvatures that allow the map to gain a more realistic geographic look, with maps such as Earth or Continents at play. Each grid contains a plethora of information regarding the environment of the map, from terrain to resources, and even Natural wonders that are scattered around the map.
2. In 'Civilization V', one of the major changes made to the game is that of unit placement. Which of these statements is true?

Answer: Only one unit of each type (Military/Civilian) per hex is allowed

Unlike previous games where any number of military or civilian units can inhabit a single tile and even 'stack' into a better unit, 'Civ V' forces you to only have one unit of each type on a single tile. This means that armies in the game are a lot smaller than in previous incarnations, and requires more tactical thinking in unit placement when facing off against a city or enemy.
3. In previous titles, units needed transport ships to embark onto the oceans. Now, all units can embark without the need to construct those transports, but you must research one important technology in the tech tree. Which is it?

Answer: Optics

Researching Optics enables all units to embark onto the oceans, though they can only sail along coastlines. This opens new possibilities for finding new lands and resources before better forms of exploration come along. Optics also unlocks the Lighthouse, which increases the food and production yield of ocean tiles within your city territory.
4. Making their debut to the series is the City State, an autonomous AI city that can either aid, or dampen your progress in the game. They come with different profiles that will give different bonuses to your civilization. Which of these is NOT one of those profiles?

Answer: Mythical

Unlike other AI players, City States will not battle for victory in the game. Instead, they stay in a passive role until they are discovered by you or by other players, and they will join your cause if you either complete quests set by them, gift them military units or give a bribe of gold. Each profile or personality of a City State will gift different bonuses. Cultured states give additional culture points, Militaristic gift military units, Maritime gives food to your cities to grow faster, Religious gift faith, Mercantile gift luxury goods to provide happiness.
5. The expansion 'Gods & Kings' reintroduced religion into the game. With production of Faith, you will gain your first pantheon before being able to found a religion using this one unit. Which unit will help spawn your new religion?

Answer: Great Prophet

The Great Prophet appears when you have accumulated enough Faith for one to appear, or if you've built a wonder that will automatically spawn one. They have many purposes, from creating and augmenting your Religion with different bonuses that suit your playstyle, to even converting other Civs and City States to follow your religion.
6. From the start of the game, these terrifying invaders will haunt and pillage you when they have the chance, starting out with clubs and slings. Who are these pesky invaders who will hinder your game?

Answer: Barbarians

The job of the Barbarian is to make your game a little tough in the beginning. They can come into your base to pillage your improvements, kidnap workers and settlers, and slow your progress in general. To reduce their numbers, send your military to their encampments to destroy, which will usually reward you with some gold. Barbarians will also progress with you in eras, so as you go forward in research, the Barbarians will follow suit so they won't fight you with clubs if you have access to muskets
7. Managing your cities contentment is also a major factor. You need to keep them happy in order to produce units and build city upgrades. A major factor in creating Happiness is the Luxury Resource. Which of the following is a Luxury Resource?

Answer: Ivory

Luxury resources are worked when they are in your city territory and will require a worker unit to build a resource building to activate that resource in your city. In the case of ivory, you need to build a camp when your source of ivory in elephants are within your city border. Bananas, Wheat and Stone are bonus resources, which will increase the yield of your resources.
8. There are many wonders in the game, and they also cater to different styles. But if you are going for a Science-based game, which wonder will work best?

Answer: Porcelain Tower

Constructing the Porcelain Tower gifts you a free Great Scientist, who can either be expanded to make an Academy in your city to earn more science per turn, or expanded to get a massive boost in Science to get a your next research endeavour done in almost an instant.

Another benefit of this wonder is the betterment of research agreements with allies, where you gain 50% more Science after an agreement is complete.
9. Victory in the game can be achieved by multiple means. Let's look at the Cultural Victory, to win by Culture, you will need a special force that will influence other Civs to see your great works of art, music and literature. What is the driving force of the Cultural Victory?

Answer: Tourism

Tourism is created by having works of art, music or literature stored in different cultural buildings, such as the Hermitage, certain wonders and museums. These works can be attained by having Great Artists, Musicians or Writers and expanding them in your base, or in the case of the Great Musician, send it to another Civ as a 'Tourism Bomb' to send a big chunk of Tourism to them. Tourism is also greatly boosted by certain techs, like The Internet.

To win, you must accumulate enough Tourism to be influential against other Civs. To counter Tourism, it is important to have high amounts of Culture per turn to counter Tourism.
10. To cap off, we will tackle the Diplomatic Victory. To win, you need to be voted Leader of the Free World in the United Nations. Trouble is, you need enough delegates to vote for your victory. Which of these will get you more delegates in the United Nations?

Answer: City States

The requirement of votes to be Leader of the Free World is based on the number of City States in the game. Having more City States under your influence will help you gain more delegates, but be warned, other Civs will try other means to take these City States away from you, such as rigging elections with their spies, or bribing them to their wills. You can even try to trade with other Civs to try gain their favour to vote for you at the UN, but at an extremely high cost.
