Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Get close enough and shine your flashlight on it, and the mannequin will come to life.

Answer: Silent Hill 2

"Silent Hill", as a series, places much of its focus on survival and psychological horror, and the second game in the series has been critically lauded for its approach to this, giving the player insight into protagonist James Sunderland's mental decline after the loss of his wife.

When he arrives in Silent Hill, many of the foes therein will be representative of his sexually frustrated psyche, so it won't be uncommon to find mannequins with four legs who react negatively to being seen in bright light or the oft-seen sexualized nurse enemies. "Silent Hill 2" was first released in 2001.
2. You've gazed upon a Gibdo and now you're frozen in place!

Answer: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Gibdos are mummified versions of Redeads seen in many "Legend of Zelda" titles though they were at their most dangerous in "Ocarina of Time" and "Majora's Mask" specifically because they could turn to face Link and, with a groan, paralyze him in his tracks for a short time before leaping on his shoulders and taking a few bites. Fortunately, Link could protect himself with a quick tune on the ocarina. Playing the Sun's Song, even if indoors, could temporarily stun all undead enemies in place, almost solidifying them in stone long enough to pass by without issue.
3. Don't move. The Licker will only attack if he hears you.

Answer: Resident Evil 2

The Licker was a fearsome enemy introduced to the "Resident Evil" series in the second game, and I'll always remember this foe leaping from the other side of a one-way mirror in the S.T.A.R.S. police station, giving me a fear of reflective surfaces for months in my youth.

The Licker's capabilities improved in later games. While the creature, with its long tongue and agile, muscled body, could be a fearsome foe on its own, its inability to see was cemented in later games (and the film series). As such, it can't see you, but it can hear you.
4. When you see it, it'll know and it'll disappear until you're not looking.

Answer: Super Mario 64

This question is vague, but it refers specifically to the ubiquitous Boo, the ghost enemy introduced to the "Super Mario Bros." series in the NES games. Boos have a tricky mechanic in that the player can't do too much about them unless their back is turned. Boos will go invisible (usually seen faintly, but invulnerable to attacks) and stay still when watched.

The technique is used to great effect in games like "Luigi's Mansion" though they have a trickier time in turn-based RPGs like "Paper Mario", since they have to take turns to perform this useful feat.
5. It won't hurt to look at an Irithyll Jailer, but it hurts when they look at you.

Answer: Dark Souls III

Games in the "Dark Souls" series are known for being punishing, and the Irithyll Jailer is insult on injury since this enemy, when in range and aware, will use its lantern to drain your health. Not just your current health, but also (temporarily) your maximum health, the latter of which which will only be regained over time at a distance.

It becomes impossible to heal when he's in range. Fortunately, they're only found within the Irithyll Dungeon stage and, as with most enemies in the game, a very specific technique may be key to winning in combat against them.
6. Arbok has used Glare. It's super effective!

Answer: Pokemon Yellow

Arbok and his prior form, Ekans, were both masters of this move in the early "Pokemon" games though the technique has also been given to other more menacing Pokemon throughout the series (later users included Dunsparce and Seviper). The technique is quite strong, providing a three in four chance that the enemy Pokemon will be paralyzed in battle.

The technique, because it doesn't use a physical element, is also able to affect Ghost Pokemon, a type not usually able to be stunned in this way. In later generations, the move's accuracy increased, making it a highly viable option for a very small subset of Pokemon.
7. Turn away when Medusa uses her ultimate attack-- Stone Gaze-- or you'll turn to stone.

Answer: DotA 2

Medusa is, of course, named after the mythical Gorgon herself, and like the Gorgons of Greek myth, she has a serpentine body and gaze that turns foes to stone, though not passively. Medusa, as a reliable carry character, is able to heal herself and harm foes with arrow techniques that make use of draining snakes. Additionally, her fortitude allows her to resist strong magic attacks.

Her ultimate move, Stone Gaze, is the ultimate in crowd control, especially against hearty enemies, because anyone on the opposing team facing her at the time will turn to stone and have their resistances severely depleted, allowing Medusa's party to swoop in to great effect.
8. The basilisk in the final boss battle of this game will kill with a look.

Answer: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

As with the film and original book, the video game adaptation of "The Chamber of Secrets" takes Harry Potter to the chambers beneath the girl's bathroom to face off against Tom Riddle's (Voldemort's) giant basilisk, a creature that can kill with its gaze or, if seen in a reflection, petrify someone until they can be cured with a medicinal potion. During this fight, Harry needs to use magic skills learned throughout the game and focus on the foe's eyes; if he can blind the beast then he reduces the risk of becoming snake food.
9. Common Gorgon enemies will turn you to stone with a look in this game.

Answer: God of War

Because the original "God of War" games rely so heavily on Ancient Greek mythology, visiting gods of said pantheon on the regular, Gorgons are very common foes, and after going through several games of them and fighting them in many, many different rooms, you get used to the generic animation of killing them before they can look into your eyes and turn you to stone. During these games, Kratos will also face off against Medusa (in the first game) and her sisters and, eventually, larger Gorgon serpents. Gorgons didn't return for the "God of War" reboot in 2018, notably because the series switched over to the Norse pantheon.
10. Michael Myers is staring at me from a distance!

Answer: Dead By Daylight

Looking in Michael's direction is definitely a plus, and with the right perks on your Survivor, you should get a notification, but as a DLC killer, Michael Myers (licensed from the "Halloween" film series, of course) is deadly with his gaze, able to stalk from great distances to charge himself up and become more effective as a killer. With his 'Evil Within' ability, he can reach two higher tiers of effectiveness, eventually being able to expose Survivors and fell them in a single swing of his knife.

As a survivor, minimizing your visibility is a must, otherwise Michael will zip around the map, picking your team off one by one.
