Virginia has been the birthplace of several U.S. presidents including Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe and Woodrow Wilson among others. Washington himself was born on February 22, 1732 in Westmoreland County.

Answer: Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson served as Secretary of State from 1790 to 1793. He was succeeded by Edmund Jennings Randolph. Of course, Jefferson is best known as the third president of the United States of America.
