Egypt unlucky to lose but Uruguay had more chances in the end. I could see (lip read) the crowd calling for Mo Salah but he was never allowed to leave the substitute's bench. He looked agonised when Uruguay scored their late goal. Suarez didn't have a great day.
As it was nil nil for so long I took the opportunity to fix up a curtain rail and hang some curtains. Been meaning to do that for a while.

Haha I'm glad you got those curtains fixed! I agree, Uruguay had more chances, though Suarez was not on point today. I hope, for the sake of seeing more goals, that he does better next time. A shame Salah wasn't ready to play, do you think Egypt would've had a chance of winning if Salah had played?

Next up, Morocco plays in the World Cup for the first time in 20 years against Iran in 45 minutes. Predictions? Stay tuned!

Uruguay IMO were the better team overall, though thought Egyptian goalkeeper was "better than fair"......overall whilst I have seen more exciting games, also seen a lot worse. Fair result IMO.

Btw tough opener for your boys Eddy, but reckon if you beat them, you could do well.

I agree Ray, Uruguay was better, although they missed many clear opportunities and the Egyptian goalkeeper did a good job. The match would've been better had Egypt been a little more offensive, I think. Fair result indeed.

And yes, this is a very tough World Cup overall for Mexico! My hopes aren't too high this time around, we'll see how it goes. Glad you're joining us in the discussion, Ray! Please feel free to continue posting here or at the Forums.

Morocco and Iran are still tied 0-0 at 37'.

At 76', a painful headbutt leaves Moroccan player Amrabat out of the pitch. He's been substituted.

Morocco 0-0 Iran

Jeez, what an awful game. At 94', Aziz Bouhaddouz scores and own goal and Iran wins it.

Final score:

Morocco 0-1 Iran

Coming next, what is predicted to be one of the best group stage matches, Portugal vs Spain!

Feel Sorry for Morocco but so far the teams are lacking attacking spark. I do think that Salah might have given Egypt that if he's played. They had some shots at goal which someone like Salah would have capitalised on more, I think.

Now for something completely different. Remember Paul the Octopus who predicted world cup results in 2008? Is this the new animal clairvoyant https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-44493221

Penalty kick! At 2' the Italian referee calls a penalty kick after Cristiano falls inside the box. I'm not sure that there was any contact. This would be a good time ot use the VAR but it's not being used!

Diego Costa scores in a very confusing play! The referee did not immediately award the goal and Costa seemed to foul Pepe before scoring, and he even held his hand to the earphone momentarily! No VAR, again. The goal is given though, now it's tied.

Portugal 1-1 Spain

Commentator here said 'at his best Diego Costa can be a raging bull who is almost unplayable'

Another close one for Spain! The referee indicates that there is no goal. The Spanish players were asking for VAR, but the ref clearly indicated that his watch with goal-line technology did not vibrate, no goal.

Portugal 1-1 Spain
