If there is to be a first time winner, my money would be on Belgium.

I liked so much a win for Belgium
It's a great team, with technica, tactical, speed, aggressively, with many excellent players, I liked how their play against the bad result(as against Japan)
Europe will win world cup and it's the fourth straight...Italy, Spain, Germany and the winner in Russia 2018.

I didn't forget England, just certain they won't be winning it so that's why I feel whoever beats France and wins the trophy will be a first time winner.

And today I continue predicting England's demise. I thought they would not get out of the group stage, then they did. I thought Colombia would knock them out. I now think Sweden will win 1-0.

I do hope you are wrong. For England's sake it's a good thing that you self identify as 'nasty liar'.

Today's predictions:-

Russia to beat Croatia ......home support advantage.
Sweden to beat England.....England IMO have suspect defense, otherwise "even-stephens".

I will be keeping a close eye on the very important match played today....................Maldon & Tiptree FC v Colchester United, pre season friendly. May also have a look at World Cup too! Lol

C30 Tiptree is the place that makes Tiptree jam, I'm guessing. For that reason alone maybe I should be on their side.

I hope I'm wrong too Mix, I think we have been lucky so far. It will catch up with us eventually.

I try not to be too hopeful, then I'm not disappointed. Even if they don't succeed I think they've done well this time. They've really played as a team, worked hard and kept their morale up. I think they have the will to succeed but there are so many factors at play. No one would have expected Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Neymar and Germany to be out at this stage. So expect the unexpected seems to be the theme of these games.

Is that the same Maldon that the Monty Python boys parodied as North Malden in one of their many classic sketches?

Good luck with England tonight/today.

Mixy............the same! Situated about 10 miles South-West of Colchester.

Sectant, don't think so...........this one is a small town in Essex, at mouth of River Blackwater and btw, one of my all time favourite places.......there is a haunting beauty to the estuary mud flats at low tide IMO.

Should I turn the TV on now to watch the endless minutes of speculation before the game? No, I think I'll try to avoid that.

Me too Mixy............I shall watch the game, but can do without watching/listening to the "expert opinion" of whomsoever gets on TV. Watching re-runs of every England game since around 1966, etc., etc................in other words "The Media Hype".
..................and another thing............I can SEE what is going on with the match, I don't need, or want, inane burbling of a commentator to tell me!

signed "Grumpy Old Man", England.

I sometimes like the daft things commentators say like 'there goes X with his legendary left foot'.

Corner and score for England
Sweden without reaction
One shot on target in 42 minutes(the goal)
The last 3 minutes the best of game with starling win in speed
One side game, but without a good show to see...

I was at university in Essex, and as it happens, that's where my mother was from. One of my uncles lived on Maldon Road in Colchester but I remember him more for loading up my "hungry student" car with apples - he worked on a fruit farm to eke out his pension.

Maldon is where the best sea salt in the world comes from.

I'm watching the match from behind the sofa. What if I watch and they lose? What if I watch and they... aargh! :)

It doesn't look likely that they'll lose now. That second goal was nice.

The second half look better, Sweden with two or three good interventions and England pushed to score and go ahead 2-0
