What a match!

France 4 Argentina 3.............kudos to both teams.........one of most "nail biting" games so far.

So much for my "Argentina will win" prediction! Maybe I'll be wrong about England's exit too......:)

France was a better team today, Hernandez and Pavard break for the laterals and Mbape was unstoppable, marvelous, awesome, I don't find the right adjective to this player today.

Aguero substitution was so so so late, France need to adjust in defensive phase, but was superior.

Go Uruguay!!! Go Brazil!! Go Colombia!!!

Argentina need a lot of changes in the AFA, techinal management, players.

It's not good when a team it's coached by the players when the DT it's only a fake, and a player as mascherano need to take the control.

Uruguay with a collective game and two great goals in quarter finals.
France vs Uruguay, next.
The World Cup next stages without Messi and Cristiano eliminated... without Cavanni injury

For all Portugal's possession, I thought overall Uruguay looked the better team, so IMO 2-1 to Uruguay just about right result.

Portugal however probably "won on points" for "Oscar nominations", though not much to chose.............mostly the referee was unimpressed, but sometimes fell for it. I guess it must be VERY difficult for a referee to identify a genuine injury from a simulated one, when so many players resort to theatrics after most tackles.

VAR it's the solution

Uruguay and France are 2 great teams. It seems a shame that one will have to go out in the next round.

France v Argentina, Exciting excellent game. I dread to see Maradona's reaction though.

Joe the referee can't go trotting off to consult VAR after every tackle!, because with some teams it is almost compulsory to fall to the ground pole-axed after a tackle, even when no contact.

I agree that referees must use their judgement when they have clear sight of the action. Otherwise the ref's job in the future could be wholly automated couldn't it? VAR would be a robotic system taught to identify fouls and issue a noise along with and indicator of which team has fouled and what the penalty is. I would not like to see that.

Sorry, I want to say the VAR help to the reffery to solve the penalty simulations.

Spain vs Russia: boring, so boring first half. Spain score in a own goal , ztuba jump in a corner and with a hand conceded a penalty.
1-1?

I need to say Russia play fine, put a very disciplined team and annulate the Spain creation.
Iniesta I want to see in the game.

Well Joe, the Referee thought the handball clear cut penalty....technically he is probably right......but..........but IMO the Russian player couldn't help himself, the ball was played ONTO his arm.

Spain paid the price for trying to pass the ball around without any real attacking intent, after Russia had kindly scored an "own goal" for them..... They are going to have to attack now!!!

Match quite boring overall, Russia "chasing shadows", and Spain having nigh 80% possession..........but 1-1...........game on.

80% without a deep playing it's a waste possession...
Tzuba out it's the best Russian player today.

Both goals came out of foul play. Instant karma to Russia for making no attempt to play the ball, not even looking at it when pulling down Ramos and the ball bounce off the Russian's leg.

Russian goal from a penalty for handball by Spain.

Iniesta coming on now. You'll be pleased Joe.
