Katherine and Sam fall in love while Sam makes a series of repairs to the schoolhouse. Sam is black, and it's 1905, so the townspeople don't approve. Trout Walker (a mean, rich man who's also sweet on Kate) sees the interracial couple kissing. He leads a mob that burns down the schoolhouse and murders poor Sam.

Answer: teacher

Kate Barlow only kisses the men she kills. She doesn't kill Stanley's Great-Great-Grandfather, just steals his money.

Answer: Leaning against the Mary-Lou

In the movie version, Kate was sitting beside Sam's old boat (the same boat in which Zero would find shelter many years later) and talking to him, when Trout and Linda came up to her and demanded her to tell them where she buried her loot. The last thing she said before she died was: "You, your children and your children's children will dig for the next 100 years and you will never find it." Then she placed a Yellow-Spotted Lizard on her arm and laughed as the lizard bit her.

In the book version, Kate was being woken from her sleep in her cabin by Trout and Linda Walker. They made her walk around barefoot on the hot, desert ground and hit her on the backside of her ankles by a shovel until she would tell where she had hidden her loot.

Answer: "Really?"

Magnet is the one who said "Really?". They were talking about this after Zero got down in his hole and Stanley was amazed.

A little while after he ran away from camp, Caveman ran away, too. Caveman ran away to find Zero because he was worried about him. He tried to take the water truck, but he crashed it into a hole.

Sam loves Mary Lou so much that he names his rowboat after her. A mob of townspeople shoot poor Mary Lou when they find out about Sam's romance with Katherine Barlow.

Patricia Arquette can be seen in other movies such as "Little Nicky" with Adam Sandler, "Stigmata", and "Bringing out the Dead".

The name "Allan" had to be changed to the name "Theodore", as it was Armpit who said it in the movie. The line above is taken directly from the book. It was said at the end when Stanley and Zero was reunited with the rest of D-tent after their stay at God's Thumb. Apparently Armpit had learned his lesson and was feeling remorse for what he had done, which we never found out what was.

Actually, neither the book nor the movie told us what Squid, Armpit, X-ray or Zigzag did. We were only told that Stanly was accused of stealing shoes, Zero stole shoes from a Payless, Magnet stole a puppy and Twitch stole a car.
Not much have we been told about the D-tent boys' pasts but we do know from the movie that Squid's mother was drinking and his father had left them.

After Caveman trips over Lump, Lump kicks him and then Stanley runs at him. It is there that Lump says that Caveman is a dead man.

X-ray has this shirt on almost the whole time during the movie.

The actors of the D-tent boys made up this song in Jake M. Smith's (Squid's) hotel room. They were just playing around, and then they realized that they could get somewhere with it.

In the book Hatti sees them.

There used to be a lake where the camp now is. It was so hot, the lake dried up.

Answer: a lipstick tube

The tube once belonged to the outlaw Kissin' Kate Barlow. She wore lipstick so she could leave her trademark red smooch on victims' cheeks.

When Trout Walker burns down the schoolhouse, Kate goes to the Sheriff for help. Later, after he refused to help her, she shoots him, and then gives him the kiss he asked for.

In both versions, the people at the party watched the commercial that Stanley's parents made with Clyde Livingston. In the movie, the D-tent boys "played" in the pool while Mr. Yelnats barbecued hamburgers.

Answer: Laney Park

Zero used to have to wait at Laney Park for his mother when she would go somewhere. When she left him, he slept in the tunnel next to the swing and bridge.
