Philip St. John Basil Rathbone was born in South Africa in 1892, but raised in Derbyshire, England. He served in the army during WWI and reached the rank of Captain. While in the service he was a two-time British Army Fencing Champion.

As his fencing skills were real and not just acting he put them to good use. He taught fellow actors Errol Flynn and Tyrone Power how to fence for their movie sword fights with him. Rathbone made many movies before becoming somewhat type cast in the fourteen Sherlock Holmes movies he made between 1942 and 1946, with Nigel Bruce as Dr. John H. Watson.

Stan Laurel was born Arthur Stanley Jefferson on June 16, 1890, in Ulverston, Lancashire, England.

Bob Hope was born Leslie Townes Hope on May 29, 1903, in Eltham, London, England.

The story goes that Hank Ballard was driving and listening to the radio when it was announced that "The Twist" had hit the number one spot. Because Chubby Checker sounded like him, he thought it was his version that was then number one.
