Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At which fun place might you encounter visitors searching for "hidden Mickeys?"

Answer: Walt Disney World

The Disney Imagineers have placed many small representations of the iconic circle with two smaller "ears" in many attractions. For instance, one place setting in the great room of "The Haunted Mansion" are set in the Mickey Mouse arrangement. There are also semi-profiles of Mickey hidden in attractions; in the queue line of "Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin" there is a planet with a continent shaped like Mickey.

They even can be found in Disney movies, so keep a watch for them!

2. Which flirtatious, coquettish cartoon character, who was first introduced to the world in 1930, lost out on the top spot in a 2009 sexiest cartoon character survey, to the voluptuous Jessica Rabbit?

Answer: Betty Boop

Betty Boop is a seductive cartoon character, who made her debut in 1930's "Dizzy Dishes". She went on to become an iconic figure, renowned for her short dresses and ample cleavage. However in a 2009 survey by Cadbury Dairy Milk, she was voted the second sexiest cartoon character, losing out to Roger Rabbit's wife, Jessica.

3. Originally sporting a star-spangled costume, which of these American superheroines was created first?

Answer: Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman was created by psychologist William Moulton Marston (pseudonymously Charles Moulton) along with Elizabeth Holloway Marston (alas, usually uncredited) and artist H. G. Peter in 1941. Her original enemies were the Axis Powers of World War II, and for Dr. Marston, impressed by the women's suffrage movement of his childhood, she was more than a comic-book superhero.

In the 'New York Sun' Marston stated, "Frankly, Wonder Woman is psychological propaganda for the new type of woman who, I believe, should rule the world".

As for the other choices, Ms. Marvel was created in 1977 and became Captain Marvel in 2012; Batgirl first appeared in 1961; and Storm debuted among the X-Men in 1975.

4. What cartoon character is credited with increasing the popularity of spinach as a vegetable in the United States?

Answer: Popeye the Sailor

Popeye the Sailor is a cartoon character created by Elzie Crisler Segar, who first appeared in print in 1929. One of Popeye's signature phrases is "I'm strong to the finish, 'cause I eats my spinach." The comic strip was so popular that following following its introduction, sales of spinach in the United States rose by over 30%.

There are statues of Popeye in many spinach-growing areas, such as Crystal City, Texas and Alma, Arkansas.

5. Which of these video games is "Mortal Kombat" most similar to?

Answer: Street Fighter

Both the "Mortal Kombat" and "Street Fighter" franchises are based on 1v1 sidescrolling physical fights, beginning in 1992 and 1987 respectively. And, in that time, the basic formula really hasn't changed that much -- in simple terms you hit the enemy better than they hit you, and you win. With the 2015 edition "Mortal Kombat X" finding itself the fastest selling game of the franchise up to that point, it's hard to deny that people enjoy the simple pleasure of beating people up with fictional characters, even if for some they're just AI-controlled in the story mode.

6. Which of the following pairs of actors has NOT portrayed Sherlock Holmes and his assistant Dr. Watson in a movie or television series?

Answer: Patrick Swayze, Jonathan Taylor Thomas

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman star in the BBC series "Sherlock" which have recreated many of Arthur Canon Doyle's original works featuring Holmes and Watson. The series started broadcasting in 2010.

Jude Law and Robert Downey, Jr. recreated Holmes and Watson in the 2009 movie "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" directed by Guy Ritchie.

Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu are stars of the television show "Elementary" first broadcast in 2012. This is a modern interpretation of the Holmes and Watson story.

Neither Patrick Swayze (who died in 2009) nor Jonathan Taylor Thomas has played the Holmes or Watson roles in their careers.

7. What name is shared between video game master thief Carmen and a city in California?

Answer: San Diego

San Diego, California, one of the most populous cities in the state, lends its name to Carmen Sandiego of video game fame. "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" was originally brought to PCs in the 1990s as an educational game before its popularity justified a children's TV game show.

While developers Broderbund Software went defunct in later years, "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" became a cultural meme.

8. Which first name links the antisocial character Dr. Gregory House of TV show "House", with the (adult) male protagonist of the film "About A Boy"?

Answer: Hugh

The name Hugh belongs to both of the English actors playing the protagonist roles in the immensely popular show "House" and the film "About A Boy", respectively. Hugh Laurie, born James Hugh Calum Laurie, is perhaps best known on an international scale as the misanthropic yet quick-thinking, genius diagnostician of "House". Hugh Grant stars as the immature Will in "About A Boy" who is taught how to act as an adult by the young boy, Marcus, played by Nicholas Hoult.

The movie is also based on a Nick Hornby novel.

Answer: Summoner

Job classes in the "Final Fantasy" series allow players to customize their heroes to have certain attacks or magic at their disposal. 10. These three objects, once associated with the Catholic ritual of excommunication, can be found in various video games to achieve different purposes. What are these objects?

Answer: Bell, book and candle

In some games (e.g. "Zork", an early game from the 1970s, and "Ultima IV", from the 1980s) the objects of bell, book and candle must be found to gain access to otherwise-closed playing levels; in others, such as "Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning" (a hack and slash role-playing game) and "Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim" (a real-time strategy role-playing game), bell, book and candle appear in the names of missions or quests.

The original Catholic excommunication ritual involved ringing a bell (representing a death-knell), closing a bible (representing separation from the Church), and snuffing out a candle (representing the soul being removed from God's light).
