Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You are out enjoying the day on your new bike in the neighborhood. You see someone walking over to you and he wants to talk with you. What is a simple safety rule that you should follow?

Answer: Call for help and don't talk to strangers

I learned this rule in my very first lesson at Safety City which was a program that was all about safety for kids. We used the term "Stranger Danger" to remember to never talk to strangers and always call for help.
2. This second item on my list of safety for kids is about dinner time. When Mom says to come inside and 'wash up' for dinner, what simple task is she asking you to do to help you protect yourself against germs.

Answer: Wash your hands before you eat

This little safety rule is mainly to keep the germs at bay while you are handling food. Who knows what type of germs could be on your hands after playing outside. This is a task that is not hard to do and one to get into the habit of doing every time you eat.
3. After dinner, Mom says it's time to go to the store to get some ice cream! What very easy to do task should you do when you first get into the car?

Answer: Buckle your seatbelt

This is always the first rule of thumb, and it is not very hard to do anytime you get into a car. Always buckle your seatbelt. It is for your safety in the case of an accident. In our American state of Ohio, it is a law to have your seatbelt buckled and the police officers use the slogan "Click it or ticket".
4. Mom pulls into the store parking lot and wants you to come inside with her so you can pick out your ice cream. There is a very dangerous area near the front of the store where the cars are driving back and forth. What simple safety tip should you do before crossing the streetway?

Answer: Look both ways before crossing

Another easy safety rule that we learned in Safety City was to always look both ways anytime you are about to cross the street. It is very important to know what cars are coming and to never step out until is clear to cross. We had a little saying: "Look Left, Right, Left" to cross the street.
5. While inside the store on your way to pick out ice cream, you walk down the camping aisle and see all the matches and charcoal. There is a very simple rule that states: never _____ with matches. What is missing in the blank?

Answer: Play

Fires can start very quickly and can also spread quickly as well. It is not very hard to stay away from matches as children. If you see a fire other than a campfire or cooking area, please get an adult right away.
6. Now that you have picked out your favorite flavor of ice cream and are back safely at home. Mom says it's time that you learn this very important number in case you ever get lost. What number does she teach you?

Answer: Mom's phone number/home phone number

It is always very important to know the emergency phone numbers just in case you get lost or need to call out to someone quickly. In our household, we had a notepad on our refrigerator with the phone numbers of our parents, 911 (US Emergency), and our neighbor. We memorized those numbers for our safety.
7. Now that your ice cream is done, it is time for bed. Mom asks you do this simple task to protect your teeth and gums before you get in bed. What is it that she asked you to do?

Answer: Brush your teeth

A very simple task that will protect your teeth and gums from germs and plaque is brushing your teeth. Most dentists recommend that you do it at least twice a day.
8. On the way to bed after you are finished in the bathroom, you notice things on the floor of your bedroom. Mom says that you need to do this simple task before you go to bed for your safety in case you need to wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. What is she asking you do?

Answer: Pick up and put your toys away

It is important to make sure that you don't have your toys laying around as you may trip over them in the dark on your way to the bathroom. It is not hard to keep a tidy room and cleaning up is good habit it start when you are young.
9. With all your toys finally picked up, it is time to do one last thing before you get in bed. You should always keep this open just in case of an emergency and your mom needs to get to you quickly. What very easy task should you do?

Answer: Keep the bedroom door a jar

I was always taught growing up to keep the bedroom door slightly open in case of an emergency. It is easier to get out if need be. Also, the door being ajar will help with the fear of monsters as Mom is right down the hall so she can come in quickly to fend them off!
10. Finally, it is now time to go to sleep. You sleep very well with the knowledge that you are going to be very safe in life if you follow rules and tasks. Are all of these tasks simple to follow and learn?

Answer: Yes

Learning these simple tasks is not very hard to do, and it will protect you in life. Please remember to always watch your surroundings and do as your mom tells you. I hope you enjoyed this quiz!
