Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You are in a crowded, popular supermarket that just opened. You look around, but while you are fascinated by the entertainment section, you realize your parents are gone. After looking around, you cannot find them anywhere. What is the best thing to do?

Answer: Notify a worker or the front counter

If you simply sit down and cry or ask strangers, strangers could perhaps pretend to help you find them but instead hurt you in some way. Your parents will be really, really worried about you if they cannot find you, so do not hide from them like it is a game or else they will be really worried and angry at you. If you notify a worker or the front counter, they will stay with you and keep you safe.

Then they will either have some people find your parents or announce their names over the intercom.
2. You find your parents, who have been quite worried about you. You all walk around the supermarket some more, and there seems to be one stranger who is following you. He has black clothes and constantly glares at you. What is the most appropriate thing to do?

Answer: Tell your parents

Any stranger that makes you uncomfortable is usually not a nice person, especially if they are mysterious and they keep following and looking at you. It is probably dangerous to approach these type of strangers, as they can hurt you or kidnap you. If you tell your parents, they will take note of it and be sure to take extra care of you.

They may also notify the manager or officials, who may come to deal with the stranger if he/she really is malevolent.
3. There is another stranger that you see-- Although, to you, not necessarily a stranger. He is a guy you have seen many times in other places nearby, such as the park or the local diner, although you have never spoken to him. Can you assume you are safe around him?

Answer: No

Definitely not! Just because you have seen him around does not mean he is a good guy and knows you well. In fact, if you see someone multiple times in the same places, it may not be just coincidences. The stranger may be following you, wishing to do you harm. If this seems to be happening, notify your parents immediately and keep a close eye on what he does.
4. As you walk outside to your car, your mother goes to return the cart and your father goes to buy a little food from the snack bar, leaving you alone for a few seconds, as you are responsible. A lady drives up in a car, slides down her window, and asks, "Could you help me find my lost little boy?" Why is this method of abducting kids an unconvincing one?

Answer: All of these

Believe it or not, many kids do fall for this lie. There are different variations of this lie, such as "Have you seen my missing kitten?" or other things like that of the sort. Older kids usually know that something like this is definitely dangerous. If somebody tries to lure you into their car with this, make sure to stay a distance from the car. If the person grabs you, scream for help. If a stranger attempts to abduct you this way, then you might want to notify other kids as they might not be as responsible by themselves, and they could fall for it. You should also notify your parents, other adults whom you know, and policemen and/or officials.

A good way to get away is to say, "Let me check with my mom-- Wait here." Walk away casually, but when you are out of sight, run and notify people you know, other kids, policemen, and officials.
5. A strange person walks up to you and whispers something to you that makes you feel uncomfortable and unsafe. What should you do?

Answer: Tell a person you trust

Any stranger that makes you feel uneasy should definitely be reported to a parent, friend, or maybe even a policeman or official. Striking up a friendly conversation crosses the line between bravery and stupidity-- They could say more bad things or possibly even harm you. Taking heed of his words is also a bad idea-- How would he know anything? Ignoring him would be difficult-- If the words make you feel uneasy at first, most likely it will keep you uncomfortable and more uncomfortable over time unless you let it out to someone you trust, like your parents, your best friend, your teacher, or other people.
6. In most areas, you should tell your parents when you see an average person carrying this in public.

Answer: All of these

If you see a civilian walking in public with any of these, then it is a good idea to report this to your parents. If you tell a policeman or an official, have them check why they have it and why they are carrying it around visible to the public. Even if it is not visible to the public, it is illegal in many places to carry a dangerous weapon in public. Make sure to stay away from anyone who has one. If a worker at a market has something like a knife, they may use it for their job, such as slicing up meat, so make sure that the person is not using it for anything they are supposed to do.
7. You are walking through the supermarket when suddenly a man you don't know grabs you around the waist and begins to carry you away. What is the best thing to do?

Answer: Struggle and scream for help

Doing any of the other choices will most likely in him taking you and abducting you, probably harming you or using you for ransom. It is best to kick and punch him in places like his face. You should also scream something like, "I do not know this man! Help me, he is not my father!" Doing so will alert other people that this is an illegal act of abduction.

This will also alert the security guards to come over and take care of the man. Trying to escape yourself is a bad idea as he is stronger than you. If you play along and let him take you somewhere, he is trying to do it for something bad.
8. You see another child being taken away by a strange man. His mouth is covered with the man's hand so he cannot scream. What is the best thing to do?

Answer: Scream for help or security

If another person is being captured by a kidnapper, no matter who it is, you should do your best to help them. However, another kid is not so powerful against an abductor, so your part is to notify everybody about it so the adults, usually the security agents, can take care of the situation, deal with the criminal, and return the child safely. Reporting it to the police later is a bad idea, as the child may already be killed or injured once the police deal with it.
9. As you walk out of the store, you spot a man grab a phone from the shelf and sneak out without paying for it. How should you react?

Answer: Tell the security agents and/or the workers

Shoplifting, or stealing from shops, is extremely illegal. It is a good idea to report this as the guy who is stealing is most likely also dangerous, unless stealing is the only bad thing he does, which is true of some criminals. Usually, there are security cameras and people at the entrance or exit to make sure that nobody gets away with stealing, but in the rare case that somebody does manage to steal something, if you spot it, you should notify the workers so they will know and they can have the security and police take care of the thief. If you steal something yourself, you will be in seriously deep, deep trouble. If you go up and talk to him, he may do something bad to you, but if he does not want to attract attention, he may ignore you or question what you are talking about.
10. Finally you get back home. To relax, you decide to access the internet with your computer and surf the web. Is the internet also a public place?

Answer: Yes

The internet is a public place even though you do not directly interact with others. However, information on the internet is generally available for the public to see, as long as they have access to the place with it. As a result, NEVER post anything personal online, such as your age, full name, date of birth with the year, passwords, Social Security number, picture, or anything else private.

Other people will see it and possibly take advantage of it, hacking your accounts or becoming an impostor of you. Do NOT even tell anyone anything online, as they can tell others. And also, do not trust private information that people tell or show you.

For example, if they send a picture of themselves, and they look gorgeous, there is a chance that is not really them. Also, if they say they are a fifteen-year old girl, the person may be lying and is actually a forty-year old. Also, as a kid, never arrange to meet somebody online in public unless you really trust them, your parents give you permission, they help arrange a safe meeting, and they come with you.
