Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Here are the countries that lie entirely south of the equator, alongside their northernmost point and latitude:

You might run into a rare source that says Angola is actually not entirely south of the equator because of a small area called the Cabinda exclave, a detached province between the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, that is part of Angola, despite being separated from its mainland. Historically, it had been under Portuguese protection, but later it was incorporated as a province of Angola after independence, and is recognized internationally as belonging to Angola. Well okay, fine, BUT...even the northernmost part of that Cabinda exclave, as an overwhelming number of sources will tell you, is still south of the equator. The northern tip of it is approximately 4°22' South while its southern end is approximately 5°33'S near the city of Cabinda.

Australia, whose northernmost point is Bramble Cay, Torres Strait Islands, Queensland at 09°08′S. Australia, lying between approximately 10° South and 39° South, is also one of only two continents entirely south of the equator. All of Australia's territories, such as Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, are also entirely in the southern hemisphere.

Botswana, whose northernmost point is Kasane at 17°46′S. Botswana is a landlocked country in southern Africa whose southernmost point is about 26.9° South. It is bordered by South Africa to the south and southeast, and by Zimbabwe to the northeast, both of which are countries that are also entirely south of the equator.

Chile, whose northernmost point is Near Visviri, Arica y Parinacota Region at 17°19′S. Chile is one of the world's southernmost countries with a southern latitude of 56° South at Cape Horn, and stretching north to around 17° South as it borders Peru. Chile is only about 400 miles away from Antarctica. Its vertical stretch of roughly forty degrees of latitude which means Chile is in several climate zones, from the arid Atacama Desert in the north through temperate valleys and then cold, wet southern regions close to the Antarctic Peninsula.

Eswatini, whose northernmost point is Horo at 25°44′S. Landlocked within the southern part of the Africa, Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland) is one of the smaller countries in the Southern Hemisphere. Despite its small size, Eswatini has a wide variety of terrains, transitioning from the hot and dry Lowveld in the east to a cooler and wetter Highveld in the west.

Malawi, whose northernmost point is South of Ngomba at 09°22′S. Malawi is another landlocked country in southeastern Africa roughly from 9°22′ South to about 17° South. The climate is subtropical, with wet (November to April) and dry (May to October) seasons, and is influenced by its altitude and Lake Malawi.

Namibia, whose northernmost point is Kunene River north of Otjivakuanda at 16°56′S. Namibia's southernmost point reaches nearly 29°, along the Orange River bordering South Africa. The country's climate is mostly desert and semi-desert conditions, especially in the Namib Desert along the coast and central inland regions.

Papua New Guinea, whose northernmost point is Suf Island at 00°52′S.
Located in the Southwestern Pacific Ocean, in the region of Melanesia, Papua New Guinea's southernmost point is the island of Vanatinai, at a latitude of 11°46' South. The country takes up the eastern half of the island of New Guinea (the world's second largest island), while the western part of New Guinea is known as Western New Guinea, or West Papua.

South Africa, whose northernmost point is Beit Bridge, Limpopo Province at 22°20′S. South Africa is located at the southern tip of the African continent, as far south as Cape Agulhas at 34°50′ South, making the entire country completely in the Southern Hemisphere. Its northern border is another country located entirely below the equator, Zimbabwe. In fact, all of the six countries that border South Africa are entirely in the Southern Hemisphere.

Tonga, whose northernmost point is Niuafo'ou at 15°36′S. Tonga is another South Pacific island nation located entirely south of the equator. The Tongan archipelago stretches as far south as 23°30' South latitude. Tonga is also placed just west of the International Date Line, making it one of the first countries to break in each new day, leading to its nickname "the place where time begins." Its other nickname, "The Friendly Islands" was given by European explorers. Tonga is the last remaining Polynesian monarchy, a member of the Polynesian cultural sphere, located in the Southern Hemisphere.

Zimbabwe, whose northernmost point is Zambezi River east of Jeki at 15°37′S.
Zimbabwe is another landlocked country in southern Africa, and its southernmost point is 22°25′ South. Its summer (their wet season) goes from November to March, while their winter (dry season) is from May to August. Zimbabwe's location near the Tropic of Capricorn means it experiences tropical solar patterns, lending it warm temperatures year-round.

And here are the countries that are not ENTIRELY located below the equator:

Brunei is located entirely north of the equator, ranging from 4°00′ North to 5°04′ North, situated on the northern coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia.

Chad is located entirely north of the equator in north-central Africa. Its southernmost point is at 7°27' North near the Central African Republic border, and its northernmost point is at 23°30' North in the Tibesti Mountains.

French Guiana is also entirely north of the equator between 2° and 6° North, lying on the northeastern coast of South America, bordering the countries Suriname and Brazil.

Kiribati straddles the equator, spreading from about 3° 30' North latitude in the northern Gilbert Islands to about 11° 26' South in the southern Line Islands. FUN FACT: Not only is it in both Northern and Southern Hemispheres, it is also in both the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, the only such country that that make that claim.

The island country Palau is in the western Pacific Ocean in Micronesia, and consists of over 300 islands, mostly in the western Caroline Islands chain. Its latitude spans from about 3° North to 7.5° North.

Singapore is so close to the equator, only about 85 miles away, but is definitely in the Northern Hemisphere. This island nation's latitudinal range is about 1.21° N to 1.36° N.

Yemen is located in the Southern Arabian Peninsula, in Western Asia, and is entirely north of the equator. Its approximate latitude range is 12°6' North to 19° North. Its southernmost point is the island of Socotra in the Guardafui Channel, at about 12°6' North.
