1. Pinot

The word pinot comes from the French term for pinecone. So named because the shape of a bunch of these grapes resembles a pinecone. Pinot grapes are thin-skinned. Pinot Noir is a black grape. Pinot Blanc is a white grape and Pinot Gris is a gray grape.

Valient grapes have many uses but are particularly used in juices. They frost resistant allowing them to be grown in northern climates. The grapes are black, round and seeded.
3. Red Globe

Red Globe is classified as a table grape. It is usually seeded and quite large and is anywhere from rosy to deep red. They are grown widely in Spain, South America and California.
4. Thompson Seedless

Sultana grapes are thought to be products of the Ottoman Empire. In the late 1870's a winegrower from California named Thompson began planting them and named them after himself. They are used in nearly all of California's raisin production.
5. Concord

Concord grapes were developed by a farmer in the mid-1800's in Concord, Massachusetts, hence the name. They are used mostly in jelly and juice but are also used as wine during communion by some churches.

Niagara grapes are the leading green grapes grown in the U.S. They are primarily used as table grapes and as the primary grape in white grape juice. They were developed in the mid-1860's in Niagara County, NY. They are known for being sweet and juicy.

Used primarily as a table grape Crimson Seedless grapes were developed in California and have only been publicly available since around 1990. They have a tough skin with a juicy and sweet pulp.
8. Moon Drops

"Moon Drop" grapes are seedless, deep purple and long, some as much as 3 inches. They are very sweet with a rich and firm texture. "Moon Drop" grapes proprietary and are not often available in retail stores.

10. Merlot

"Merlot" is one of the most widely planted grapes in the world. The grape's name likely comes from the French word "merle" which means blackbird and is probably a reference to the grape's dark blue, almost black, color. "Merlot" is the most widely grown grape in France, particularly the Bordeaux region. There is an International Merlot Day celebrated in Bordeaux every November 7th.
11. Beta

The Beta grape is a very cold-hardy small almost black grape. It is even grown in Finland. It is mainly used for juices and jellies, rarely for wine. Due to its rapid growth Beta grape vines are often used to climb fences, walls, and arbors.

Zinfandel grapes are deep red, fruity, small and light skinned. Due to their high levels of sugar, they have a high level of alcohol content. Zinfandel wine is bold and pairs well with red meats. Zinfandel grapes originated in Croatia and are grown extensively in California.

14. Edelweiss

Edelweiss grapes are pale green to light yellow, seedless, cold-hardy variety of grapes originally grown for table use, they are now used mainly for juices and jellies. They also make a good white wine. They grow in very large clusters, some weighing over a pound. Edelweiss is mostly grown in the Midwest U.S.
15. Malbec

Malbec is a thick-skinned, sweet, fruity grape that is grown in France and primarily in Argentina. Malbec grapes grow best in high elevations with hot days and cold nights.
