Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Prey" centers on a protagonist named Naru. What Native American tribe of the Plains region was Naru a member of?

Answer: Comanche

"Prey" takes place in the year 1719 and the Comanche character Naru is played by actress Amber Midthunder. Since at least the 18th century, the Comanche tribe have occupied areas that would become the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico.
2. Although it is really the Predator's spaceship, what does Naru believe she sees in the sky while she is tracking a deer?

Answer: Thunderbird

As Naru is tracking a deer, she sees something that is able to move clouds and she believes it is a thunderbird. She tells other members of her tribe that she saw this sign from God but they do not believe her. In many Native American tribes the thunderbird is a legendary animal of great strength that is capable of producing thunder and lightning.
3. Throughout the film "Prey", Naru uses a flower that has healing powers. What name is given to this flower that cools the body's blood after it is ingested?

Answer: Orange tutsia

The flower orange tutsia that is depicted in "Prey" is likely based on species of the Calendula genus which are orange in color and had been used for centuries before the events of "Prey" which was set in 1719. In the film Naru uses the orange tutsia to heal wounds of several men and later she uses it to lower her body temperature so the Predator's infrared scanner cannot detect her.
4. What animal does Naru's brother, Taabe, kill after it is weakened due to falling from a tree?

Answer: Mountain lion

Although Taabe receives all the glory from his tribe after bringing back the defeated mountain lion, he later tells Naru that it was her plan to lure it into a tree and weaken it that made it possible for him to overpower it. When the mountain lion fell out of the tree Naru also fell and she ended up being knocked unconscious prompting her brother to bring her back to the village.
5. As it is attacking a mouse, what is the first animal that the Predator kills after which it is skinned and disemboweled?

Answer: Rattlesnake

On its search for the apex predator, the Predator first observes a rattlesnake attacking a mouse prompting the Predator to kill the rattlesnake. The Predator would then kill a wolf and bear before turning its attention to humans.
6. What nationality were the individuals that laid waste to a herd of bison and took Naru and Taabe as prisoners?

Answer: French

The French engaged in the fur trapping and transporting trade in the plains and northern regions of the United States. In the 1700s these trappers were known as voyageurs. In "Prey" these French trappers/hunters unsurprisingly meet their end via the Predator.
7. What does the translator Adolini teach Naru how to use after she provides medicinal treatment to his severed lower leg?

Answer: Flintlock pistol

After the Predator kills most of the other French members of Adolini's group, Adolini asks Naru to help ease his pain. She uses the orange tutsia to help him and he teaches her that to use a flintlock pistol she has to add powder, push it down to the bottom and then pull the trigger. At the end of the film Naru brings Adolini's pistol back to her tribe.
8. After Naru baits the Predator with the lead trapper, what does she knock off the Predator's body that she will later use to help her kill it?

Answer: Mask

The Predator's mask features technology that allows him to detect temperatures of living creatures as well as guide weaponry and projectiles that target the lead predator in the area. Naru is able to retrieve the Predator's mask after she shoots him from behind with the pistol causing it to fall of his head.
9. In which of the following locations where Naru had a perilous encounter previously does the Predator end up killing itself?

Answer: Mud pit

Early in the film when Naru is out tracking she walks into a mud pit and nearly gets totally submerged in it before she is able to pull herself out with the help of her throwing axe. Toward the end of the film Naru is able to fight the Predator and then lead it into the mud pit near which she has placed the Predator's mask.
10. Who directed the 2022 film "Prey" and had earlier directed the 2016 film "10 Cloverfield Lane"?

Answer: Dan Trachtenberg

Dan Trachtenberg was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1981 and he gained prominence directing commercials for large companies like Coca-Cola, Nike and Lexus. Trachtenberg also directed episodes of popular TV shows including "Black Mirror", "The Boys" and "The Lost Symbol". In "Prey" Trachtenberg helped create the story but the screenplay was written by Patrick Aison.
