Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. First New Year

Answer: Last Christmas

George Michael wrote the song "Last Christmas" in February 1984. It was credited to the duo group Wham!; however, Andrew Ridgeley neither wrote nor sang the song. The song was number two on the UK charts. "Do They Know It's Christmas?" was number one, which George Michael also performed on.

In 15 other states, including the United States and Canada, "Last Christmas" topped the charts.

In 2014, the song was released as a single.

It has been covered by other artists such as Whigfield, Ashley Tisdale, and Crazy Frog.
2. Rainwoman

Answer: Snowman

Sia Furler and Greg Kurstin wrote the song "Snowman," which was released in 2017. It was part of her album "Everyday Is Christmas." The song tells about a snowman who is sad that he will melt, and is told not to cry. It reached number three on the charts.

In 2025, the singer Belinda released a remix version of the song.
3. The Least Horrible Limbo of the Moment

Answer: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Edward Pola and George Wyle wrote the song "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." It was first recorded in 1963 by Andy Williams. It reached number five on the charts in the US and number nine on the UK charts.

The song is a celebration song about all the activities associated with Christmas.

The song has been covered by countless artists, including Johnny Mathis, Garth Brooks, Jennifer Lopez, and Patti LaBelle.
4. Staying Away for New Year's

Answer: Driving Home for Christmas

Chris Rea wrote the song "Driving Home for Christmas" in 1986. He first released it on the B-side of his "Hello Friend" single. Two years later, he recorded a new version of the song. This version reached number 53 on the charts upon its release. However, in 2021, it reached number 10 on the charts.

Rea said he was inspired to write the song when his wife drove to get him to drive home to Middlesbrough in North Yorkshire from Abbey Road Studios in London. He was not willing to take a train, and they decided it was cheaper to drive than to fly. As they were returning home, it snowed; they got stuck in traffic.

He originally wanted Van Morrison to record the song, but never got it to him.

Stacey Solomon covered the song.
5. Triste Dia de Ano Nuevo

Answer: Feliz Navidad

"Feliz Navidad" is Spanish for Merry Christmas. Jose Feliciano wrote the song in 1970 and recorded it that same year. The song is sung in both Spanish and English. In 2010, his version from 1970 was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

According to Feliciano, the song was recorded in ten minutes and only has 19 different words.

Despite being one of the most popular Christmas songs, when it first came out in 1970, it did not place on any of the Billboard charts. More than 25 years after its initial release, it reached number one on the Adult Contemporary chart in 1998.

The song has been covered by others, including The Wiggles, David Crowder Band, Michael Buble, and Thalia.
6. Noisy Day

Answer: Silent Night

Franz Xaver Gruber and Joseph Mohr wrote the song "Silent Night" under the German title "Stille Nacht" in 1818. It was first recorded in 1905 and is still one of the most recorded Christmas songs, with at least 137,000 recordings.

It was first performed in 1818 at a church in Oberndorf in the Austrian Empire. In 1816, a Catholic priest named Father Joseph Mohr wrote a poem called "Stille Nacht" after the Napoleonic Wars. Gruber later added the melody when Mohr asked him to compose something that could be played on the guitar after it was believed that flooding may have damaged the church's organ.

Over the years, the melody was changed slightly to become what we know today.

Some artists who have recorded the song include Carrie Underwood, Johnny Mathis, Barbara Streisand, and The Temptations.
7. There Goes the Grinch

Answer: Here Comes Santa Claus

Gene Autry, Harriet Melka, and Oakley Haldeman wrote "Here Comes Santa (Right Down Santa Claus Lane)" in 1947. Gene Autry was the first to perform the song that same year. His version reached number five on the charts. Autry got the idea for the song after riding in the 1946 Santa Claus Lane Parade.

It has since been recorded by artists such as Elvis Presley, The Beach Boys, The Andrews Sisters, and Doris Day.
8. You Don't Have Your Hate to Make You Cold

Answer: I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm

Irving Berlin recorded "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm." Ray Noble and Howard Barrie first recorded it in January 1937. That same month, it was also recorded by Red Norvo and Mildred Bailey, and by Billie Holiday with her orchestra. In February of that year, Dick Powell and Alice Faye sang it in the song "On the Avenue."

In 1946, Les Brown recorded an instrumental version, which was a big hit, reaching the top ten on the charts.

It was not originally written to be a Christmas song, nor does it mention Christmas in the lyrics. However, over the years, many artists started recording it on their Christmas albums, and it has become a Christmas standard.

Some artists who have recorded it on their Christmas albums include Doris Day, Bette Midler, Frank Sinatra, and Pentatonix (who did a virtual duet with Sinatra).
9. Adult, It's Warm Outside

Answer: Baby, It's Cold Outside

Frank Loesser wrote "Baby, It's Cold Outside" in 1944. He used to sing it to his wife, which was a cue for the guests to go home. He sold it to MGM, and it was used in the 1949 film "Neptune's Daughter." His wife was angry that he sold it. However, it won the 1950 Oscar for Best Original Song.

The song is in a call-and-response duet. It has been covered by many artists, including Idina Menzel with Michael Buble, and Kelly Clarkson with Ronnie Dunn. On the "Elf" (2003) soundtrack, Zooey Deschanel and Leon Redbone sing the song. On an episode of "Glee" (2009-2015), Darren Criss (as Blaine Anderson) and Chris Colfer (as Kurt Hummel) sing the song together.
10. Scrooge Salio Del Pais

Answer: Santa Claus Llego a la Ciudad

"Santa Claus Llego a la Ciudad" is the Spanish version of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town." J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie wrote the song. Harry Reser and His Orchestra was the first to record it. In 1934, Eddie Cantor covered the song on his radio show, and it became a hit song.

Luis Miguel recorded the Spanish version "Santa Claus Llego a la Ciudad" in 2006. His version reached number 26 on the Billboard Latin Pop Songs chart.
