The song was about America and the Soviet Union, who were engaged in the Cold War, although hot war never happened. It was more about the threat of nuclear war and the post-apocalyptic aftermath. If a war had occurred, it would have involved the entire world in a fight for human survival.

Nine Inch Nails released the song "Survivalism" as a single on March 13, 2007. On the charts the record reached number one on the US Alternative Airplay (Billboard) and number two on the UK Rock & Metal (Official Charts). The lead singer Trent Reznor wrote the song.

The track serves as a dispatch from a dystopian near-future where society and the environment are collapsing. In the event of a worldwide major catastrophe, you would stock up on food and water and maybe build some kind of safe shelter to protect yourself and your family. A survivalist would look at what's happening and prepare, ready for the unknown.

"Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" is a single taken from Ultravox's seventh studio album, "Lament". It was the second song to be recorded from the album as a single.

Nevil Shute wrote the novel in 1957. People in Australia are waiting for a deadly radiation cloud after it has wiped out human life in the Northern Hemisphere.

When Midge Ure and his fellow bandmates wrote the lyrics for the song, they came up with the story of a nuclear explosion at a nuclear reactor. In the video it shows Midge driving home to his family before the reactor blows up. When he arrives home, he cuddles his wife and dances with her; they go to bed and cover themselves over with a sheet. A picture on the TV has the caption "Nuclear Explosion," and then a bright white flash fills up the bedroom.

In the fourth verse it has the lyrics, "It's late, and I'm with my love alone, we drink to forget the coming storm."

Nena was a West German band that was active between 1981 and 1987. In the band's short career, they released four studio albums, with their debut album called "Nena," released 14 January 1983. The fourth and final album by Nena was called "Eisbrecher," which was released on 24 November 1986.

The single was released under two names: the English version was "99 Red Balloons," and the German version was known as "99 Luftballons." Both songs had slightly different lyrics and arrangements.

The year 2000 is around the corner; party time could be over. If so, let's party like it's 1999. The US and Russia have stockpiled nuclear weapons, and the threat is all around us. Verse 3: "Everybody's got a bomb; we could all die any day." A great song from Prince, and who knows what we would do in the last few days before and after a nuclear war? Maybe we will never get the chance to party.
