Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Blondie released their third album in 1978. What was the name of the album?

Answer: Parallel Lines

"Parallel Lines" was recorded by the American band Blondie on September 8, 1978. The album was recorded in New York at the Record Plant studio. The album was the first to have Mike Chapman as its producer. The album gave Blondie the commercial breakthrough they were looking for. Chart-wise, "Parallel Lines" went to the top of the albums chart in the UK, while in the US it reached number six on the US Billboard 200.

Several of the songs on the album were released as singles and did very well, with "Heart of Glass" topping the charts in both the UK and US. Other songs on the album that charted well were "Hanging on the Telephone", "One Way or Another", "Picture This", and "Sunday Girl".
2. The "The Long Run" was the last album in the 1970s from this band. The single "Heartache Tonight" was also included on the album. Who are the band?

Answer: Eagles

"The Long Run" was Eagles' sixth studio album, released September 24, 1979. It was also the first time bassist Timothy B. Schmit was part of the band since bassist Randy Meisner had left the band. Other members of the band were: Don Felder, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Joe Walsh.

The album reached number one on the US Billboard 200 and peaked at number four on the UK Albums Chart."Heartache Tonight" topped the charts on the US Billboard Hot 100. In 1980 Eagles broke up but returned in 1994. In 2007 the band released their seventh studio album, "Long Road Out of Eden". The album was also the first double that the band had recorded. Commercially the album was very successful, reaching number one on both the UK and US charts.
3. What is the name of the fourth album by Metallica, from 1988?

Answer: And Justice for All

"And Justice for All" is the fourth studio album from Metallica released on September 7, 1988. The album was recorded at the One on One studio in Los Angeles on the Elektra label. All the songs on this album were written by the band's rhythm guitarist, James Hetfield, apart from track eight, "To Live Is to Die", which is also credited to the former member Cliff Burton, who died in 1986. Members of the band also include Kirk Hammett, Jason Newsted and Lars Ulrich.

Chart-wise, the album reached number four on the UK Albums Chart and number six on the US Billboard 200. The album's lyrics talk about corruption, censorship, and how war affects people. It also mentions what was happening at that time in the world of politics.
4. What is the name of the band that recorded the album in the photo?

Answer: Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd released their eleventh studio album, "The Wall", on 30 November 1979. The album, which is a rock opera, was a worldwide hit for the band, topping the charts in several countries and spending 15 weeks at the top of the charts on the US Billboard.

The album is basically the story of a rock star who goes by the name of "Pink" who lives in social isolation. The isolation is symbolised by a wall. The songs in the rock opera tell the story of what happens to Pink, who is based on Waters and Syd Barrett, the co-founder and former member of the band. As Pink goes through the stages of his early life, the opera follows the journey of fame and personal struggles. The song lyrics reflect his descent into isolation and despair. Each song serves as a vivid exploration of his isolation.

One of the best songs on the album, in my opinion, is "Another Brick in the Wall"; this is later followed up with Part Two and Part Three. Part Two covers child discipline and corporal punishment at school and has a children's choir singing in the song, too. If you've never seen the video that accompanies this song, look it up, as it's well worth watching.

Part Two, with the children singing one verse:

"We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teacher, leave them kids alone."
5. "Lost Without Your Love" was the last studio album from this band. Who are the band?

Answer: Bread

Bread, released their last studio album, "Lost Without Your Love" in 1977. The album was recorded at the Elektra studio in Los Angeles, California. Members of the band were David Gates, James Griffin, Larry Knechtel and Mike Botts. The album was their first to be recorded and released after a gap of just over four years between the band's previous album, "Guitar Man", released in October 1972.

"Hooked on You", "Lost Without Your Love", and "Hold Tight" were all released as singles. "Hooked on You", reached number two on the U.S. Billboard Easy Listening chart.

The band name of Bread wasn't the name originally chosen for the band. "Dragonwyck" was put forward at a brainstorming session, but was just an idea. While putting ideas forward, they saw a bread van at a stop light, and that's where the name came from.
6. The album "Candy-O" was recorded by this band. It was the band's second album from 1979. Can you recall the band?

Answer: The Cars

The Cars were an American new wave band that was very popular in the mid-to-late 1970s. Members of the band were: Ric Ocasek, Benjamin Orr, Elliot Easton, David Robinson, and Greg Hawkes.

The band's second album, "Candy-O", was released on June 2, 1979. Cherokee Studio was the venue for the recording, which was based in Hollywood, California. Ric Ocasek, the lead singer, was the songwriter for the album. The album reached number three on the US Billboard 200 and stalled at number 30 on the UK Albums Chart.

One distinctive feature of the album was the cover. Candy Moore, who was an American model and actress, appears semi-naked in a body stocking in art form. The cover was painted by Alberto Vargas. Alberto specialises in pinups of girls.
7. Can you work out the name of this band? The band recorded "Airwaves" in 1979.

Answer: Badfinger

"Airwaves" is the eighth studio album released by British rock band Badfinger. The album was released in March 1979 and recorded in Los Angeles on the Elektra label. Badfinger became a duo on this album; only Tom Evans and Joey Molland appear on the album with additional musicians.

Badfinger was a Welsh rock band formed in Swansea in 1961. The band had great success in the early 1970s with songs like "Come and Get It" (1970), "No Matter What" (1970), "Day After Day" (1972), and "Baby Blue" (1972). Pete Ham and Tom Evans wrote a song in 1970 called "Without You", and the song has been covered by several artists since, including Harry Nilsson and Mariah Carey.

The Beatles helped Badfinger on their way to chart success with the band's Apple label. It was also the first band to be signed up by the Apple label.
8. "Dandy in the Underworld" would be the last album from this band. Who was the lead singer from this Glam Rock Star?

Answer: Marc Bolan

Marc Bolan was the lead singer for the English band T. Rex. Released on 11 March 1977, this would be the last and final album from the band, as Marc Bolan died in a car crash on 16 September 1977. The album was on the EMI label and reached number 26 on the UK Albums Chart.

T. Rex enjoyed huge success in the early 1970s with top ten single hits like "Ride A White Swan", "Hot Love", "Get It On", "Telegram Sam" and "Metal Guru". The band also had four top ten albums in the charts with "T. Rex" (1970), "Electric Warrior" (1971), "The Slider" (1972), and "Tanx" (1973). T. Rex was part of the glam rock era. From around 1974 T. Rex's fortunes had started to decline, and it was hoped that their twelfth album, "Dandy in the Underworld", would put them back on the road to recovery. Sadly, this never happened; however, their impressive achievements from the band's early career still lives on.
9. AC/DC recorded this album in 1979. What is the name of the album?

Answer: Highway to Hell

"Highway to Hell" is the sixth studio album by Australian rock band AC/DC, released on 27 July 1979. The album was recorded at the Roundhouse studio in London. Members of the band for this album were Bon Scott, Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd. All the songs on the album were written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young and Bon Scott.

One of the tracks for the album, also called "Highway to Hell", was the inspiration for the album name and song and came from the fact that being on the road touring for a long while is very tiring. If you sing along to the song, the lyrics give you an insight into how tough the nature of their touring life is. The album reached number eight on the UK Albums Chart and stalled at number 17 on the US Billboard 200.

Shortly after the album was released, Bon Scott was found in the back of a friend's car, unconscious. He was taken to hospital but was sadly dead. The coroner revealed that Scott had died by acute alcohol poisoning and concluded death by misadventure.
10. Who were the band that recorded "News of the World"?

Answer: Queen

"News of the World" is the sixth studio album by the British rock band Queen, released on 28 October 1977. The album was recorded at the Sarm East studio in London. The album peaked at number three on the US Billboard 200 and number four on the UK Albums Chart.

All the members of the band contributed to the writing of the songs. "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions" are two of the band's best-loved songs from the album, especially when they were being performed at a concert and with the crowd participating.

The album cover was by the American sci-fi artist Frank Kelly Freas. The cover was an adapted illustration from one of his works in 1953. The new artwork now has four Queen members on the front cover, and Taylor is the only band member that can be seen on the back cover. The original cover only had one unknown dead man on the front, covered in blood. On the new cover, Mercury and May can be seen in the hand of the robot, and Taylor and Deacon are falling to the ground.
