Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to the lyrics of the Pete Townshend hit from 1980, "Let My Love Open The Door", what type of plant does the singer give to his lover to help "take all the worry out of your mind"?

Answer: Four-leaf clover

"When everything feels all over, when everybody seems unkind, I'll give you a four-leaf clover, take all the worry out of your mind. Let my love open the door, let my love open the door, let my love open the door to your heart."

"Let My Love Open The Door" was off Pete Townshend's first, and best selling, solo album, "Empty Glass", from 1980. Both song and album reached the Top 10 in that year. "Empty Glass" is sometimes referred to as "the Who album that never was", meaning that Roger Daltrey was a bit miffed with Townshend because Daltrey thought many of the songs would have been excellent tunes for the Who to record.
2. According to the lyrics, and the title, of the Kiss tune from 1977, what age was "Christine"?

Answer: Sixteen

"She's got me dizzy, she sees me through to the end. She's got me in her hands and there's no use in pretending. Christine sixteen, Christine sixteen yeah."

"Christine Sixteen" was off Kiss' 1977 album, "Love Gun". The song reached #25 on the American charts, while the album made it all the way up to #4.
3. According to the lyrics to the Pretenders' 1980 hit, "Brass In Pocket", which is NOT one of the body parts that the singer would use to make you notice her?

Answer: Mouth

"Gonna use my arms, gonna use my legs, gonna use my style, gonna use my sidestep, gonna use my fingers, gonna use my my my imagination."

The Pretenders formed in England in 1978. Original members included Chrissy Hynde (lead vocals, guitar), James Honeyman-Scott (guitar), Pete Farndon (bass), and Martin Chambers (drums). They released a cover of the Kinks' "Stop Your Sobbing" as a single in 1979, and then released their self-titled debut album in 1980.
4. According to the lyrics of "30,000 Pounds of Bananas" by Harry Chapin, into what Pennsylvania city was the doomed truck headed?

Answer: Scranton

"It was just after dark when the truck started down the hill that leads into Scranton, Pennsylvania, carrying thirty thousand pounds of bananas."

The tune is based on the true story of a runaway truck losing its brakes on what is now U.S. Route 307 just above Scranton, Pennsylvania, carrying, what else - a shipload of bananas. The infamous incident occurred in 1964.
5. According to the lyrics of the Dr. Hook classic from 1973, "Cover of the Rolling Stone", how many copies did the singer say he wanted to purchase for his mother after his picture finally did appear on the magazine cover?

Answer: 5

"(Rolling Stone) wanna see my picture on the cover, (Rolling Stone) wanna buy five copies for my mother. (Rolling Stone) wanna see my smilin' face, on the cover of the Rolling Stone."

Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show finally did get their picture (an illustrated caricature of the band, actually) on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine for the first time on March 29, 1973.
6. According to the lyrics of "Enter Sandman" by Metallica, to what fictional place will the Sandman take you, just by taking his hand?

Answer: Never Never Land

"Sleep with one eye open, gripping your pillow tight. Exit light, enter night, take my hand, off to Never Never Land."

On the strength of tunes like "Enter Sandman", "The Unforgiven", and "Nothing Else Matters", the 1991 album simply titled "Metallica" (sometimes referred to as "The Black Album") went to Number One on the charts and solidified Metallica's standing as heavy metal legends.
7. According to the lyrics of the Led Zeppelin classic, "Going To California", the singer is going to California with something in his heart. What is it that is in his heart?

Answer: An aching

"Spend my days with a woman unkind, smoked my stuff and drank all my wine. Made up my mind to make a new start; I'm going to California with an aching in my heart."

"Going To California" can be found on Zeppelin's classic fourth album from 1971.
8. According to the lyrics, and the title, of the Rolling Stones' classic from 1969, when does the "Rambler" usually come around?

Answer: Midnight

"Did you hear about the midnight rambler, everybody got to go. Did you hear about the midnight rambler, the one that shut the kitchen door."

"Midnight Rambler" was inspired by the strange case of Albert DeSalvo, also known as the Boston Strangler.
9. According to the lyrics of "Too Much Time On My Hands" by Styx, the singer has "dozens of friends and the fun never ends", but this is only due to one condition. What is this condition?

Answer: he continues to buy the drinks

"Now, I'm a jet fuel genius, I can solve the world's problems without even tryin'. I have dozens of friends and the fun never ends; that is, as long as I'm buyin'."

The classic video for this tune has Tommy Shaw getting cooked in a bar and throwing money around the place. Been there, done that.
10. According to the lyrics of the Jefferson Airplane classic, "White Rabbit", which weird character tells you to "feed your head"?

Answer: The dormouse

"When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead, and the White Knight is talking backwards and the Red Queen's, 'Off with her head'. Remember what the dormouse said, 'Feed your head, feed your head'."

The tune was based on the classic children's tale, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", except in Grace Slick's version, Alice is trippin' balls, man.
