Daniel was given the Babylonian name Belteshazzar by King Nebuchadnezzar, according to Daniel 1:7.
Daniel was known for a number of things, not the least of which was his interpretation of dreams. Scripture also tells of Daniel being tossed into a lions' den and surviving unscathed.
The name Belteshazzar is not to be confused with Belshazzaar, the final king of Babylon, as per Daniel 5.
2. Shadrack (Daniel 1:7)
Answer: Hananiah
Hananiah was given the name Shadrach while in exile in Babylon. According to Scripture, the name was given by the chief of the eunuchs of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon.
Scripture states two close friends of Hananiah were also given new names.
3. Meshak (Daniel 1:7)
Answer: Mishael
While living in exile, Mishael was given the name Mesach by the chief of the eunuchs of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon.
Mishael was a compatriot of Daniel. Two of Mishael's friends were also given new names by the Babylonians.
The book of Daniel tells of Nebuchadnezzar ordering Mishael and his two friends thrown into a fiery furnace because they refused to bow to the king's image. Miraculously, they were unharmed by the flames.
4. Abed-Nego (Daniel 1:7)
Answer: Azariah
Abed-Nego's real name was Azariah but while in exile he was given a new name.
(In the NIV, his Babylonian name appears as Abednego.)
Scripture tells of Abed-Nego and two of his friends being thrown into a fiery furnace and surviving the ordeal without any harm. According to Daniel 3:25, when people looked inside the furnace, they saw the three men walking in the midst of fire and not hurt. What's more, the verse in the NKJV states they also saw a fourth form, "like the Son of God".
The three men, according to Scripture, were subsequently promoted by the king.
5. Benjamin (Genesis 35:18)
Answer: Ben-Oni
Benjamin was originally called Ben-Oni by his mother Rachel just before she died giving him birth.
However, Rachel's husband Jacob changed the baby's name to Benjamin. See Genesis 35:18 for details.
According to various Websites, Ben-Oni means 'son of my trouble' while Benjamin means 'son of my right hand'.
Benjamin would end up becoming a founder of one of the twelve tribes of Israel.
6. Solomon
Answer: Jedidiah
Solomon was given his name by his parents David and Bathsheba, however, the LORD had a different name for him -- Jedidiah.
2 Samuel 12:25 states the LORD loved Solomon and after he was born "sent word through Nathan the prophet to name him Jedidiah".
No explanation is given in Scripture as to why the name Jedidiah never stuck.
7. Joseph, man in running to replace Judas (Acts 1:23)
Answer: Barsabas
According to Acts 1:23, Joseph actually had three different names. In addition to Joseph, he was also known as Barsabas and as Justus, as per the NKJV.
Joseph was one of two candidates in the running to replace Judas Iscariot as a disciple. The second candidate, Matthias, was selected to replace Judas who had committed suicide.
In regards to the selection process, Acts 1:23-26 reports things this way in the NKJV: "And they proposed two: Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed and said, 'You, O Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which of these two You have chosen to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.' And they cast their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven apostles."
However, there are no further reports in the Bible about Joseph and Matthias after this event.

Mark 3:16-19, in the NKJV Bible, gives a list of the names of the Twelve Disciples in which James and John are identified as both sons of Zebedee and Boanerges: "Simon, to whom He gave the name Peter; James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom He gave the name Boanerges, that is, 'Sons of Thunder'; Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Cananite; and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him."
