Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character(s) do(es) not appear in this episode?

Answer: Frank and Margaret

Frank's absence is alluded to because he is in Tokyo. Margaret's is not explained. All the other mentioned characters appear.
2. What is the name of the G.I. who has the "moose" (Korean servant girl)?

Answer: Sgt. Baker

It is never explained what he is doing at the 4077th, but his brash attitude quickly rubs others the wrong way. The character is played by Paul Jenkins. He appeared in the movies "Network" and "Chinatown" and a handful of single appearances on other TV shows. He passed away a month shy of his 75th birthday in 2013.
3. What does the term "moose" mean as Radar explains it?

Answer: daughter or young girl

Radar says that the term "moose" is derived from the Japanese word "musume" which means daughter or young girl. The war has corrupted it to imply a girl who works for sustenance, which may sometimes include intimate acts.
4. Who wrote this episode?

Answer: Laurance Marks

Laurance Marks wrote 28 episodes of "M*A*S*H" as well as many other radio early TV shows, notably "The Doris Day Show" and "Hogan's Heroes". He passed away in 1993 at age 77.
5. What was the Korean girl's name?

Answer: Young Hi

She was portrayed by Virginia Ann Lee, who mainly did guest roles on a handful of TV shows and acted in several movies. She made 5 appearances on "M*A*SH" playing different characters.
6. Which character says, "You know I read someplace the U.N. was here to liberate these people. It must have been a misprint."?

Answer: Spearchucker

Spearchucker, a surgeon at the 4077th, was played by Timothy Brown. His character also appeared in the 1970 movie, but portrayed by Fred Williamson. Brown did appear in the movie, but played the character Corporal Judson. Brown passed away in 2020 at age 82.
7. What was the Korean girl's brother's name?

Answer: Benny

Portrayed by Craig Jue, Benny is a sharp operator. He explains to Hawkeye how the Korean system of indenture works, much to the surgeon's dismay. Hawkeye refers to him as a "Dead End Kid in Korea."
8. How does Hawkeye plan on releasing the Korean girl from her indenture?

Answer: Winning her in a poker game.

Of course there is cheating involved. Hawkeye has Radar stationed in another tent where he can see Hawkeye's opponent's hand with a telescope. All goes well until a nurse blocks Radar's view. Luckily, that doesn't last too long.
9. When Hawkeye tells Trapper that he is going to talk to Henry about the Korean girl's situation, what does he say in response?

Answer: I thought you said you were gonna do something about it.

The lovable but inept Henry doesn't inspire too much confidence in Trapper. This proves true, making Hawkeye seek his own recourse to set things right.
10. Does Hawkeye's plan to obtain "ownership" of the girl succeed?

Answer: Yes

Hawkeye is triumphant in winning her in a game of poker. She misunderstands and thinks that now she is owned by Hawkeye. He tries to persuade her to return to her family. She leaves, but may eventually be sold again by her family.
