Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Vecna informs Nancy of his nefarious plan and urges her to pass the information on to whom?

Answer: Eleven

After El cast Henry Creel, also known as Test Subject 001, also known as her orderly in Hawkins Lab, into the portal she created, she was found as the sole survivor in the Rainbow Room, and Dr. Brenner located her there moments before she collapsed from exhaustion.

In her vision of what happened in the lab, Nancy witnesses Henry receiving his 001 tattoo from Dr. Brenner. Brenner turns and speaks to her directly, telling her to take a seat. In the Upside Down, Steve yells at the others to hurry while he tries to shake Nancy out of her trance. In Eddie's trailer in the real world, the other search for music, a tactic that worked for Max to keep Vecna out of her head.

But in Vecna's dream world, Nancy runs through the fake halls of Hawkins Lab, hitting dead ends before Vecna collects her and places her into a seat. As she has seen where he has been, he would very much like her to see where he is going next. He allows her to leave, but only after urging her to tell Eleven what he plans to do, and based on the vision he provides, it appears that he will be tearing through Hawkins.
2. As it's discovered, the Kamchatka prison where Hopper was held contains more creatures from the Upside Down than just the Demogorgon.

Answer: True

In Russia, while a Demogorgon attempts to escape the battle pit in the middle of the prison facility and the guards keep their weapons trained on the threat, the control room contains a number of active issues. While Murray tries to have a guard lie to his comrades about restoring the power, Antonov tries to squeeze a way out of the facility from his former superiors. Joyce, meanwhile, attempts to tend to Hopper's wounds, the two of them finally getting the chance to chat after eight months (and the belief that each of them was dead). The reunion is short-lived. The Demogorgon climbs the wall outside and as the guards unload their weapons, they find them particularly useless.

One of the only other routes out of the control room turns out to be equally dangerous. Hopper takes the lead as they enter the steel door to find another Demogorgon, this one restrained to an operating table, cut open for scientific investigation. Hopper fires one shot to put it out of its misery.

It's not the only one though; behind a curtain the group finds evidence of several curious beings from the Upside Down, all restrained and preserved in tanks. Amongst them is a piece of the Mind Flayer, writhing ceaselessly in its own container.

Antonov finds a tunnel out. Soon, the four of them are climbing into the ventilation shaft, making their great escape.
3. El's powers have been fully restored. She proves this by raising which of these into the air?

Answer: A sensory deprivation tank

Still en route to Nevada based on Suzie's intel, Jonathan, Will, Mike, and Argyle try to keep awake. Will jokes that, on the way back, they should use El to make them rich in Vegas using her powers, but Mike seems distracted, worried that with her powers restored, she won't need him anymore. Mike's insecurity leads Will to reveal something-- a painting he made of the DND group with Mike leading the party into battle. It brings Will to tears, but he tells his friend that El will always need him, just in the same way that he believes he needs her, because what makes them feel different makes them scared.

In the Nina Project labs, El is defibrillated back to consciousness, a consequence of the trauma she experienced in reckoning with the truth behind the massacre in Hawkins. When she is able, she rises from the table and uses her powers, now restored, to tear the sensory deprivation tank from its bolts in the floor, lift it off the ground, and slowly place it back into its original spot with the utmost control.

Brenner later informs El that after the attack in the Hawkins Lab, El fell into a coma. Like One, she pushed herself beyond her limit, and the limit she found was beyond what he could have imagined her potential to reach. Her memories would be lost, as would her powers, to an extent, but that day she awakened something else-- a door to another world. Brenner explains that he knew Henry was still out there, just by feeling. He was correct. When he'd claimed three victims in Hawkins, Dr. Owens went to collect El from California.

Brenner doesn't mince his words. El's friends are in terrible danger. With each life Henry takes, he breaks down the barrier between the real world and the Upside Down. At a point, the pressure will be too much and Hawkins will fall.
4. How many gates does Nancy foresee in Vecna's vision?

Answer: Four

Nancy, finally back in the real world, informs the others that Vecna showed her awful things that have yet to happen, visions of a dark cloud destroying Hawkins as they know it. She saw an army of monsters infiltrating their homes and she saw her family, dead. Steve reasons that Vecna did it, intentionally, to scare her, but she's worried nonetheless. He showed her four gates spreading across Hawkins-- their Hawkins. One was outside Eddie's trailer.

Max notes that Vecna's clock always chimes four times. Four chimes, four gates, four kills-- he's only one kill away. She picks up the phone and tries to call the Byers house again, but there's no one there.

El, meditating in her room, watches as the others try to call through.

Nancy, recognizing that the others are safe in Lenora Hills, decides that they need to kill Vecna, and that means returning to the Upside Down, a prospect that the others are not prepared to do quite yet. But that's not quite true. Dustin, remembering that El goes into a trance when she astral projects, reasons that Vecna probably does the same in the attic of the Creel house. They just need to get in, lure him into his next and final murder, get past his army of bats, and kill him while he's defenseless. Max suggests that she's still cursed, so she could ditch her Kate Bush tape and draw him to her while the others do their thing. She already survived once.
5. To gear up for the fight against Vecna, the Hawkins group goes shopping at an army surplus store by what name?

Answer: The War Zone

There's a lot to do to prepare for a fight against Vecna, and it starts with Eddie showing the group 'The War Zone', an army surplus store just far enough from Hawkins that they can visit for weapons. Max lends Eddie a Michael Myers mask and he hot-wires one of the local trailers while the others load in. The homeowners realize the theft immediately, but it's too late. Steve gets behind the wheel and they drive off from the trailer park with their stolen getaway home.

On the drive, Lucas tries to convince Max that they should return to Hawkins High School and pore through the guidance counsellor's files searching for any potential fourth victim. Max disagrees-- they don't have the time, and Max knows that she can do her best to stand up against Vecna. It's her mind to control, not his. If she finds a happy memory, she can hide there while the others do their thing. Fortunately, she has a happy memory in mind.

El, realizing that the others are planning to fight back against One, asks Dr. Owens and Dr. Brenner to send her to help, but both men feel that her power is not ready for that battle. They can not underestimate Henry's strength. Dr. Owens believes that he can have El in Hawkins, by his connections, by nightfall; he's convinced it's time. Dr. Brenner, however, is not satisfied with El's choice. Even as Owens tells El to say her goodbyes to the people of the Nina Project, Brenner plans something else.
6. What is Katinka?

Answer: A helicopter

In Russia, Hopper is the first to emerge from the tunnels that lead out of the prison compound, digging out of the snow to freedom and heaving the others into the fresh, winter air. The men in the guardhouse, just happening to look out across the tundra, watch as Yuri's van crashes through the gate. Murray navigates the vehicle out and down the road. Fortunately, after the gunfire rings out, they all survive the final drive. The problem is that they will be hunted and, worse, they have no flight home having crashed Yuri's plane on the way into Kamchatka.

The getaway vehicle finally makes it back to Yuri's church hideout in one piece and Yuri shows the group to what will have to be their escape route-- a small helicopter he named Katinka. The catch, while it would seem to be that it's too small to carry all five of them, is actually that it's never flown before.

Joyce decides it would be a good idea for them to reach out to Dr. Owens instead and leverage his contacts to extract them from the Soviet Union. Joyce recites the phone number, Antonov makes the call to an operator...and then they wait. They'll get a call connected and sent back to them when they make it through to the other end, and even then, they'll need to talk in code. The KGB could be listening. It's not an ideal plan.
7. When Mike, Will, Jonathan, and Argyle finally make it to Suzie's provided coordinates in Nevada, what do they find that leads them in the right direction?

Answer: Tire tracks

When the Hawkins group arrives at The War Zone it turns out that the store is busy, a result of the town being on edge about the recent murders. They decide to shop quickly, but there are reasons to be distracted. Robin, spotting Vickie across the store, nearly walks over to her but finds that she's there with her boyfriend. Vickie spots her watching and, embarrassed, Robin leaves the store early.

Nancy, meanwhile, looks into buying a shotgun and finds herself next to Jason Carver, of all people, while he purchases a revolver. She expresses her condolences regarding Chrissy's death and he starts asking about Mike. Elsewhere in the store, Erica realizes that the other members of the basketball team are purchasing their armaments. The group is ultimately able to buy their guns and ammo without Jason completely catching on, but it's clear that tensions in Hawkins are quite high.

In Nevada, the boys reach the end of their nine hour journey to Ruth, Nevada and decide to recalibrate their directions, stopping the pizza van and pulling out the map. Argyle, walking off shouting for Nina, is somehow the one to find what they're looking for. Walking away from the road just a little bit, he brings the other guys over to a set of tire tracks-- massive military tires leading off the beaten path.

Sure enough, the military, including a helicopter, are headed through the desert. The catch is that they don't contain the scientists of the Nina Project, they contain Lt. Colonel Sullivan and his men, still on the hunt for Eleven.
8. Who attempts to stop El from returning to Hawkins?

Answer: Dr. Brenner

While Dr. Owens works to organize transport for El and send someone to protect Max, he's approached by guards and his communication is cut short. Handcuffed and beaten in one of the offshoot rooms, he's left to be a pawn in a negotiation,

El, meanwhile, emerges from her room ready to depart, not finding Owens waiting for her, but Dr. Brenner. She takes a step to look back at the Nina tank but finds herself locked into the chamber with him, and there, he explains that if she tries to leave, he will have Dr. Owens harmed. Alone, he claims, she won't find her friends ever again. Instead, she will stay and complete her work with him, and when he decides she's ready, they can go to Hawkins. El disagrees-- nothing he did regarding her mother or with Henry was the right choice because of the harm it all brought, so she can't trust him.

El remembers what Henry said-- "Papa never tells the truth." As Brenner tries to rationalize El's anger, she realizes that everything-- the Gate, the Mind Flayer, and the trail of dead bodies over the years-- was his fault. For a time, El thought she was the monster, but it wasn't her. It was him.

El says she will leave with Dr. Owens, and if Brenner tries to stop her, she'll kill him. As she breaks open the chamber of the door with her powers, however, Brenner jabs her in the neck with a sedative. She fights back, attempting to crush his body against the Nina tank, but she collapses in exhaustion.

El only wakes up once Brenner has the shock collar around her neck. He says he doesn't intend to activate it. That's when the alarms start to sound. Lt. Colonel Sullivan's men have converged on the entrance to the facility. Time's up.
9. As El escapes the Nina Project facility, she destroys which of these, waiting to kill her upon her exit?

Answer: A helicopter

The Hawkins group works together to prepare their weapons. While Nancy saws the end off her shotgun, Eddie and Dustin pound nails into a pair of trash can lids and the Sinclairs tie bowie knives to broom handles. While Steve and Robin pour molotov cocktails, Steve contemplates his love life and Robin tells him it's not the time. Robin claims to have a bad feeling this time, but they've got to try, at least, to stop Vecna.

In the meantime, only the military stands between El and returning to provide reinforcements. As Lt. Col. Sullivan's men blow up the entrance to the Ruth facility, the guards of the Nina Project evacuate the premises and arm themselves, making the corridors a battlefield. Dr. Brenner collects El and carries her out a back stairwell leading out to the desert. In the facility, Sullivan's men turn the place inside out, only finding Owens handcuffed to a pole.

El and Brenner emerge into the sunlight to find all of the escaping scientists dead, having been sniped from a waiting helicopter. He's shot in the shoulder and the leg before he drops El, and as she hits the ground, another bullet heads through his chest. The men in the chopper focus their aim on El and request permission to shoot.

Inside the facility, Dr. Owens begs for El's life to be spared. He can put her into a medically-induced coma, he claims, and if the murders stop, then they'll know. Otherwise, they can pull the plug on her; he'll do it himself. In the worst-case scenario, they'll need her down the line. Sullivan, however, refuses the offer.

As the sniper prepares to pull the trigger, a pizza van floors it across the desert, distracting the men in the helicopter long enough for El to get to her feet, focus her power, and gain control of the aircraft. The sniper tries to fire, but misses-- several times. Soon, El manages to bring the helicopter down to the ground altogether, destroying it in a massive ball of fire.
10. To enact their plan of attack, the Hawkins group heads to their respective posts. Where are Max, Lucas, and Erica dropped off?

Answer: The Creel house

In the wake of the helicopter crash, El watches as on as if in a trance and is caught offguard by the arrival of the pizza van. As Mike gets to her first, she rises to her feet and embraces Will, waiting in the wings. Jonathan suggests they leave immediately, but a click indicates that something has changed. El quietly removes the shock collar from her neck, finding that with his dying moments, Brenner has remotely deactivated the device.

When El finds Brenner on the ground, she walks over for her last moments with her 'Papa'. He expresses pride for her, as she is his child in a way, and claims that he only wanted to help and protect her, but she refuses to acknowledge that she understands what his motives truly were. She says her succinct goodbye and departs, leaving him on the ground and loading into the van.

When Lt. Col. Sullivan emerges from the facility, he watches the pizza van depart in a cloud of dust. It's the last thing Brenner sees as well.

As the van leaves, El tells Jonathan that they need to get to Hawkins that evening. It's a trip of over two thousand miles; it might be impossible. If they don't, however, they're going to die. She doesn't specify who.

The camper containing the Hawkins group drives to its first destination without anyone inside talking out loud about their plan. When it stops, Erica, Lucas, and Max disembark, lanterns in hand. As the van drives away, they look up at the Creel house and make their way up the steps. The sun sets behind it.
