Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Jason tells the cops that Eddie is responsible for Patrick's death because he is which of these?

Answer: A vessel for Satan

The police rush through the backroads of Hawkins until they arrive at Reefer Rick's property, finding Jason Carver by the water's edge holding Patrick's mutilated body. Later, when the police interrogate him, Jason admits that Eddie was in the boat when Patrick was killed, but it doesn't explain how Patrick was lifted out of the water. He explains that Eddie must be a vessel for Satan and he questions the police's effectiveness. After all, how can they expect to stop the devil if they don't believe he's real?

The police scour the lake throughout the evening, but what they find is nowhere near the surface. Tendrils of something dark move around below.

Lt. Colonel Sullivan, in an undisclosed location, uses the tools he has on-hand to extract info from the still-injured, still-alive Agent Wallace. While he is able to hang in without revealing an ounce of information for a while, claiming he doesn't know where Eleven has been taken, he is forced to suffer through inhumane treatment
2. When Eddie is finally able to contact Dustin, he lets him know he's hiding at which odd landmark?

Answer: Skull Rock

In the Nina Project Facility in Nevada, Dr. Brenner tells El that he believes her attack at Starcourt Mall left her brain in a state not unlike that experienced by a stroke victim in that the signals allowing her to use her powers were scrambled. What they need to do is allow her the opportunity to work back up to her fill power. Everything in Brenner's lab was recorded, and using these recordings, they can help El relive the events of her past to reinstitute her abilities. The problem is that she will need to break down the defense mechanisms preventing her from remembering the truth of her time in Hawkins. She gets back into the sensory deprivation tank and tries again.

In Hawkins, Eddie stakes out a construction site and steals a walkie-talkie from one of the workers headed to the restroom. In the meantime, the group looking after him arrives at Reefer Rick's to find a group gathered on the edge of the property. While Officer Callahan and the Sheriff give their statements to the news, they indicate that Eddie Munson is a missing person of interest and that they will be holding a town hall at 2:00pm. It's then that Dustin gets the transmission from Eddie-- he's hiding out at Skull Rock. The group heads there next.
3. What is the name of Suzie's big sister, who it appears shares mutual affection for Argyle?

Answer: Eden

Argyle finishes the drive to Salt Lake City and Jonathan, Mike, and Will file out at Suzie's family's place to find a house seemingly taken over by kids in different manners of fake battle and dramatic activity. They're eventually pointed in the right direction by Eden, Suzie's older sister, and they find her out on the roof, mounting an antenna. Once the guys indicate that they're Dustin's friends, she gives them a dubious look before heading back inside.

Somewhere closer to the Arctic Circle, Murray and Joyce, who've survived their crash in the wilderness, sit around the fire and contemplate their options. Murray, who scouted a bit in each direction, knows there's smoke two miles to the south, but the easiest way to get their bearings would be to ask Yuri. The problem is that Yuri, now their prisoner, won't talk; they've tied him up to a tree nearby and he'll only help for a price. Joyce and Murray have the upper hand though-- they can just leave him there to die.

Yuri finally cracks. They should head east to his warehouse. They'll be able to get guns, supplies, and a truck, and they'll need to do so to get to the prison by nightfall. Hopper could already be dead.
4. In her memories, El speaks to an orderly who claims that she's a lot like which other Hawkins Lab person of interest?

Answer: One

Hopper, as it turns out, is not dead yet. The guards come for him and Antonov and force them out of their cell, leading them down to the arena situated in the middle of the block. They aren't left there as expected, however. Instead, they're brought inside for a large feast by candlelight. While the other inmates are thrilled by the prospect of a filling meal, Hopper is dubious to the idea. One of the prisoners, in Russian, seems to agree and informs Antonov that a week ago, another group of prisoners had the same feast and, that night, were tossed in the pit for a fight. The monster, not of this world, consumed them in half a minute. If they stick together, he says, they may stand a chance.

Hopper, awakening from a stupor, asks if the monster is nine-feet-tall with thin, white skin-- faceless, eyeless. It is. They're not there to train the monster for war; they're here to entertain it and feed it.

In her memory, El plays games in the common room while she tries to parse through the information she seeks. One of the orderlies, the one from her initial memories, comes to speak to her and advises that sometimes, it's good to step away from a situation for a moment to let the mind clear; sometimes her determination is a road block. He says that she reminds him of One, who Dr. Brenner always implied never existed. Brenner, however, doesn't always tell the truth.

The orderly says that One didn't have a happy ending, but he did spend time in the Hawkins Lab, and finally figured out his problem, deriving strength from a sad memory from his past to bring his power to his full potential. The Orderly tells her to remember the time her mother visited her. She says that her mother is dead, but now that she knows Papa doesn't tell the truth, she's not sure if that's the real story.

In the Nina facility, Owens suggests to Brenner that they should've told El the truth. Brenner disagrees; she'll find out soon enough.
5. Whose family is not present at the town hall meeting to witness Jason's accusations towards the Hellfire Club?

Answer: Will's

In the woods outside of Hawkins, the gang heads off to Skull Rock and seems to get lost based on Dustin's navigation; Steve has to lead them the right way. Lucas, walking with Max, can't seem to hide his disappointment with Patrick's death and he can't put his finger on exactly why Vecna would target him. Max reasons that Vecna only goes for people who have something in their lives that's hurting them. He apologizes that he wasn't there for her and he promises to keep seeing her for who she is.

In a different conversation, Robin makes the not-so-subtle hint that Nancy and Steve could (perhaps) rekindle their relationship. Nancy snaps back that she and Jonathan are fine, but the truth is that Jonathan was supposed to come back for the spring break. Now that she can't get a hold of him, it's all the more frustrating. Their chat ends on a good note with the both of them, Robin and Nancy admitting to having a growing friendship, as they arrive at Skull Rock and find Eddie waiting.

At 2:00pm, Hawkins has its town hall meeting and the locals, nervous with the circumstances taking place in their town, decry the police over their handling of the case and Eddie Munson's disappearance. The police announce a strict curfew before Jason stands before the room, interrupting the meeting to declare he's had enough. He gets the support of the rest of the audience before taking the mic and telling what he saw the previous night-- the unexplainable. These murders, he says, are ritualistic sacrifices, and Eddie Munson is the leader of a cult operating in Hawkins. The mall fire and the unexplained deaths over the years-- they were all him. As his teammates hand out flyers containing photos of the Hellfire Club, Erica argues that he's pointing the finger at a group of gaming nerds. It doesn't matter though. While the kids' parents look at each other in worry, Jason has the room in the palm of his hand, ready to take action to save Hawkins from evil.
6. The boys lie to Suzie, claiming that the number they want her to investigate is part of a promotional giveaway for which of these?

Answer: A video game console

Suzie, after hearing the guys' story, admits that everything they've said is the craziest thing she's ever heard. And with the number they've given her, she's supposed to derive the location of the Nina Project-- wherever it is-- to reveal a new video game console. At least that's what they've lied to her about. Per their story they've driven 3,000 miles over their spring break to do this... for Dustin's birthday.

Despite the sketchy story, there's a big issue. After Suzie changed Dustin's grade a week earlier, she was wracked with guilt and her father, sensing her misdeed, confiscated her computer and locked it into his study. There may a way they can help her, but it'll involve a lot of people.

In Hawkins, the Wheelers, the Sinclairs, and Mrs. Henderson all drive to the Wheeler household searching for the boys. It turns out they lied, saying they were headed to the movies. Karen decides she has to call the police.

In the woods, Eddie explains how his night went and why he ran. Nancy asks what time the attack happened, and Eddie confirms it with his waterlogged watch; it happens to align exactly with the power surge in the Creel house. All they really need to do is get into the Upside Down and kill Vecna, but they can't really do that unless El gets her powers back.

Dustin also comes to a fascinating conclusion. Believing he was headed to Skull Rock in the right direction, it turned out that his compass failed to go the right way. The only other time his compass didn't work was when the boys experienced a strong electromagnetic field. It means there's a gate to the Upside Down nearby. They're nowhere near the lab, but something is causing it to happen. It might be the key to saving Eddie.
7. Did Joyce and Murray actually end up landing in Russia?

Answer: Yes

El's memories take her to a test with Dr. Brenner in which she was asked to play a game. The game had the players stand in circles, blindfolded. All they needed to do was remain in the circle. The catch was that they would be using their powers, at a distance, to force one another out of the circles. One by one the kids played the game, all falling to Two's strength of mind. The last up was Eleven, and when she took her spot and put her powers to it, she was the successful one because she took the orderly's suggestion to derive her strength from an anger-driven memory.

Joyce and Murray, taking Yuri's directions, finally arrive in Kyrzran, the small village in which Yuri has hidden his warehouse in a grey-roofed church. They, sure enough, find more than enough weapons to suit their needs. Yuri indicates where the prison is, a two hour drive away, but he says it's a suicide mission. Murray and Joyce aren't worried about their fates though-- they plan on handing Yuri over, claiming he's actually Murray.
8. Hopper manages to steal which of these from a prison guard without their knowing?

Answer: Lighter

In the prison, as the men finish their last meal, Antonov berates Hopper for squashing the others' hopes and the two start fighting in the middle of the pit, bringing the guards in to stop their brawl. In the battle, Hopper ends up attacking one of the guards, but it's all intentional. After he's knocked out by the butt of a gun, he's brought back to his cell, but he reveals to Antonov that he nabbed a lighter out of one of the guard's pockets. The creature they're fighting, he says, is called a Demogorgon, and it hates fire. With a bit of vodka and the lighter, they stand a chance.

In Utah, the power goes out while Suzie's father works in the study on the computer. It's also an intentional plan. While Suzie's brother pretends to be injured, the other kids distract him long enough for Suzie to log on and hack into the modem number. Once it proves to be too complicated in the way of code, she hunts down the IP address, passes it through a geolocator, and grabs the coordinates. The guys need to get to Nevada.

As the guys head out to the pizza van, they find Argyle out there with Eden, the two of them sharing some of his marijuana before they head out.
9. Dustin's compass leads the group to which location, where they believe there to be a gate to the Upside Down?

Answer: Lover's Lake

In Hawkins, the police realize that the townspeople are defying their curfew. They get a lucky break though-- the gang's station wagon is parked out by Skull Rock. The group is already on foot headed deeper to the center of the electromagnetic field. The problem is that the compass has led them to Lover's Lake. Using Eddie's boat (stolen from Reefer Rick's place), Steve, Robin, Eddie and Nancy hop in and embark, leaving Dustin, Lucas, and Max on the shore to keep an eye out for trouble. Dustin hands over his compass but he's not happy with the situation.

In her memory, El returns to the rainbow room where, alone, she frets over the game she's playing. She hears a scream in the distance though, and when she heads into the halls she stumbles upon the guards inhumanely shocking the friendly orderly in one of the testing rooms while Dr. Brenner watches on.

When El returns to the common room, the other kids surround and berate her, using their powers to injure her. Two threatens that if she tells Papa what they did, they'll kill her. When they depart, however, El finds herself covered in blood. It can only lead her to believe that she was responsible for killing the others in her rage.

Waking up from the sensory deprivation tank, Dr. Brenner tells her that she did well this time. She believes, fully, that she killed everyone.
10. Who, of these, is pulled through the gate by a tentacle?

Answer: Steve

Steve, Nancy, Robin, and Eddie paddle out into Lover's Lake until the compass starts spinning in circles and they deduce that they're sitting directly on top of the open gate. Steve, citing his experience as a lifeguard and swim captain, says that there will be no complaints; he'll need to dive in and check it out. Giving him a flashlight sealed in a plastic bag, Eddie wishes him luck. Nancy tells him to be careful.

When Steve dives in, it's a long trip to the bottom, and when he gets there he finds one weird thing after another. After finding full fish skeletons resting on the lakebed, he looks over his shoulder to find the unnatural red of the Upside Down glowing from the silt below. Putting his hand to the membrane beneath him, something appears to move.

On the shore, flashlights start to appear from the woods and Dustin, Lucas, and Max feel they have no choice but to hide. Max, however, realizes they need to buy more time. She yells at the officers to follow her, just to guide them away from the lake. The cops manage to grab Dustin as they flee.

In the lake, Steve finally surfaces in a rush, telling the others that he found the gate. As he grabs onto the side of the boat, he tells the others what he can before a tentacle grabs onto his ankle and drags him down into the water and through the portal to the other side. Nancy dives in after him, swimming straight down, and Robin and Eddie follow soon after.

In the Upside Down, Steve is dragged along an empty lakebed until the tentacle relinquishes his ankle. Not a moment later, creatures emerge from the sky and start to converge on him, taking him for a meal while he's helpless to fight back.
