Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad Season Opener," Sabrina meets her cousin named what?

Answer: Doris

Doris gives Sabrina one final test, where she has to answer the most dangerous time to fly her vacuum (the answer is "light rain"). When Sabrina answers correctly, Doris validates Sabrina's witch license. However, Sabrina cannot use her witch license until she solves her family secret. Throughout season three family members visit her to give her clues. Her first visitor is Doris, but she never gives her a clue.

Doris takes Sabrina's license photo while Sabrina is talking to her. Sabrina is not ready for the photo, so it looks bad. Sabrina's aunts reveal that Doris does this to everybody. When Sabrina complains to Doris, Doris gets angry and she shoots green goo out of her fingers, which lands on a random man who was at the party (Sabrina's party for earning her witch license).

Doris visits Sabrina at school, but Sabrina is not willing to talk to her because Harvey and Dashell are engaged in a gun fight over the right to date Sabrina (this gunfight is caused by a spell that Sabrina cast). Doris gets angry again and she shoots green goo at both boys. Sabrina pushes Harvey out of the way in time and Dashell gets the goo all over him, which means that Sabrina chose Harvey to be her boyfriend. Although Sabrina and Dashell agree to remain friends, Dashell never appears again on the 1996-2003 version of the show.

Doris is played by Carol Ann Susi, who later went on to play Ms. Wolowitz on "The Big Bang Theory." Ironically, though this is the only episode of "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" that she ever appeared in, she is seen more often on "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" than she is on "The Big Bang Theory." On "The Big Bang Theory," her voice was often heard, but she was never seen. On "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," you see Carol Ann Susi and that she is much skinnier than Ms. Wolowitz was described on "The Big Bang Theory."
2. When the veterinarian kisses Salem, he becomes a human.

Answer: False

Salem visited a chat room online where he found a camel (actually a man who was turned into a camel because he was an Amway salesman) who told him that he could become a human again if he is kissed by someone who loves him. Sabrina and her aunts refuse to kiss him. Salem eats peanut brittle out of the jar to sweeten the taste of his breath, which he thinks will convince someone to kiss him.

His head gets stuck in the jar. Hilda and Zelda take him to a mortal veterinarian to remove the jar from his head.

The veterinarian removes the jar and puts a cone on his head. He wears the cone for most of the episode. At the end of the episode, the veterinarian removes the cone and kisses Salem. Salem remains a cat. He shouts "Nothing happened! That stupid camel!" The veterinarian faints (because she is not a witch, so she thinks cats shouldn't talk).
3. In "Suspicious Minds," for the class assignment, who does Sabrina get paired up with?

Answer: Gordie

Mr. Kraft, filling in for a sick teacher, assigns an assignment where each boy gets paired up with a girl (and vice versa) and they have to pretend to be husband and wife for a week. Mr. Kraft gives them goals that husbands and wives are supposed to do together. The secret catch is, Mr. Kraft's marriage failed, so the only way for the students to get a good grade on the assignment is to have their relationship fail. Libby senses how miserable Mr. Kraft is and she offers to help him pair up the boys and girls, and he is glad to let her do that.

Libby pairs herself with Harvey and she pairs Sabrina with Gordie. Libby uses the assignment to treat Harvey like a king and she has every intention of making him her real-life boyfriend and making him dump Sabrina. Sabrina notices this and she gets jealous. Upon Salem's suggestion, she goes to Roland's office and hires him to spy on Harvey and Libby. Roland magically makes Harvey kiss Libby and he uses his magic to make Harvey hold Libby in various ways and he takes photos all the time. He shows Sabrina the photos, which make her even angrier. Roland then finds out that Libby is going to take Harvey to the Knoll, a place where people can park a car and there are trees surrounding the spot (so lovers can do whatever they want without being seen). Meanwhile, she does not take the assignment seriously and Gordie does, which upsets him.

Gordie drives Sabrina to the knoll, hoping to bond with her there, but all she wants to do is spy on Harvey and Libby. Roland gets Sabrina out of Gordie's car and takes her to Harvey and Libby. Sabrina hides in the backseat. Libby gets really close to Harvey and strongly urges him to cheat on Sabrina, but he refuses. An enraged Gordie comes to Libby's car and reveals that Sabrina is hiding in her car. Harvey is angry because Sabrina doesn't trust him.

At the end of the episode, Sabrina apologizes to Gordie for treating him terribly. He forgives her because they're the only couple that passed the assignment. Sabrina buys a gift for Harvey as a way of apologizing to him. He and Sabrina make amends and he kisses her twice at the end of the episode.
4. In "The Pom Pom Incident," who visits the Spellmans?

Answer: Mortimer

Mortimer is a wagician (a witch who works as a magician entertaining mortals). He visits Sabrina to talk to her about the family secret, but all she wants to talk about is how to prevent Valerie from becoming a cheerleader. He gives Sabrina a magic penny and tells her to put it in Valerie's ear and then Sabrina can manipulate Valerie's thoughts. Sabrina does just this and makes Valerie hate the idea of becoming a cheerleader and she decides not to try out. After this, Valerie becomes depressed.

Sabrina gets Mortimer to perform for Harvey's little brother's birthday party. Zelda and Hilda look down on him because they think it is a bad career choice and he is not very good at it. Sabrina tells them that there is no problem with his career choice as long as it makes him happy, but then she realizes that multiple people (Hilda, Zelda, and Harvey) told her exactly that about Valerie and her decision to become a cheerleader. She runs over to Valerie's house, apologizes to Valerie, convinces her to ask Libby to extend the tryouts, and then Sabrina uses her magic to make Libby do that. This time, Valerie agrees to try out only if Sabrina does too. Valerie makes the cheerleading squad. Sabrina's audition is so bad, Libby shows the video of it in the gym to make the other students laugh.

Mortimer hides a clue to the family secret in the house. The clue is a small picture of a superhero with "ABC" written on his cape. Sabrina figures out that the superhero is "Spell man" and the family secret is about her family.
5. In the song in "Pancake Madness," complete the lyric: "The answer to the riddle is _____."

Answer: cakes on the griddle

If you watched this show before, chances are that you remember this song. It's one of the most popular moments ever on the show. This episode was Melissa Joan Hart's favorite episode. There is a whole interview where she explains why.

Sabrina magically makes some pancakes. Hilda and Zelda desperately try to stop her from eating them. They warn her that if she takes one bite of pancakes, she will develop a serious addiction to them. She ignores their warning, eats some pancakes and develops a serious addiction to them. At school, there is a pancake breakfast as a fundraiser and Sabrina eats hundreds of pancakes and becomes seriously overweight. She gets sent home and confesses her problem to Zelda. Zelda calls Dr. Brickman, who gets Sabrina back to her normal size and tells her that she has to completely avoid pancakes for a while. Zelda makes Sabrina stay in her room. At one point, she falls asleep on her bed and has a crazy dream. During this dream is when this song is performed.
6. When Sabrina refuses to go to her great aunt Beulah's Halloween party, Beulah sends her a gift. What is the exact name of the gift?

Answer: Molly Dolly

"Good Will Haunting" was my favorite episode when I was a kid, and it's still my favorite episode now that I'm an adult. Who could ever forget the Molly Dolly? Plus, even though Hilda said some terrible things about Beulah, I find Beulah to be very nice. She's just a little eccentric. I would have liked to see more of her.

The Spellmans have been invited to a party thrown by Beulah, Hilda and Zelda's aunt and Sabrina's great aunt. None of them want to go, but Zelda decides that they have to go. Valerie arranges a double date with her and Just and Sabrina and Harvey at the Spellman house. Zelda accepts that as a valid excuse and she does not make Sabrina go to the party. Zelda and Hilda go to the party. Because Sabrina didn't go to the party, Beulah sent her a Halloween present: a Molly Dolly.

Sabrina sees the Molly Dolly show up in random places that she didn't leave it. At first, she thinks Salem is moving the doll around and playing a prank on her. Then she discovers that the Molly Dolly is capable of walking, talking, sealing the house so no one can escape, locking Salem in a bread box, neutralizing Sabrina's magic, turning off the lights, and making its friends appear. Its friends are Frankenstein, a mummy, and a werewolf. It's even willing to talk in front of mortals. Eventually, Sabrina realizes that she cannot fight the Molly Dolly on her own, so she goes to Beulah's party to get Hilda and Zelda.

Beulah's place appeared to be revealed to be an insane asylum. Hilda and Zelda are told that they can never leave, and they are caught and turned into chickens. Sabrina gets at the party after this happened. Beulah reveals that it is not really an insane asylum and it is actually a theme party. She has unusual themes for her parties (one of the guests says that last year's theme was a prison riot). Sabrina complains about the doll, and Beulah goes to the Spellman house, afraid she sent Sabrina the wrong doll. When they get back to the house, Hilda and Zelda are human again and Beulah says that it is the right doll and she thought it was a perfect present for Halloween. Zelda tells Beulah that a Molly Dolly is not good in the mortal realm (it increases the chances that they will be exposed as witches) and Beulah stops the Molly Dolly (Beulah sings loudly and it stops what it's doing to stop her from singing).

Luckily for Sabrina, her friends think that Sabrina is controlling the doll and this is just one big prank similar to the river of candy corn that happened in the season two Halloween episode. Sabrina, Hilda, Zelda, and Beulah all pretend that it was a prank and they all laugh at them. Harvey, Valerie, and Justin decide that the prank was too mean and they go home angrily.

The last scene in the episode is the same as the first non-Salem scene in the episode and it ends with him saying "it never ends!" possibly implying that time is looping and this is happening over and over again.
7. In "You Bet Your Family," Sabrina, Hilda, and Zelda all get trapped in a house that belongs to whom?

Answer: Diamond Dave

Salem gets very good at Poker, so he challenges the best Poker player in the Other Realm, Diamond Dave. When Salem is down to his last chip, he bets Sabrina, Hilda, and Zelda. He loses, and they get teleported to his house where he plans to make them do menial jobs for him for 20 years. Zelda becomes the new cook and says "That cat is going straight to the pound!" Hilda becomes Dave's maid and says "That cat is going straight to a violin factory" (the joke is probably that violin strings are made of catgut, which Hilda thinks is Salem's intestines). Sabrina loves her new job because she gets to drive his Porsche.

Zelda decides that the three of them will make a potion that will make him unconscious and they will slip it into his dinner, and then escape while he's unconscious. However, he is onto them. He knows that people poison his dinner sometimes. He makes Hilda the official taste-tester. Hilda reluctantly does so just to prove that nothing is wrong with the dinner. She falls unconscious, and they all get demoted to cleaning his septic tank.

Hilda never fully recovers during the rest of the episode. However, she does something heroic. While partially conscious, she punches Diamond Dave so hard that he gets knocked unconscious. They all escape and it turns out they were only at his house for a year. Zelda is proud of the good attitude that Sabrina had while at Diamond Dave's place and she rents a Porsche for Sabrina that they can drive to the basketball game. This Porsche is nicer than Libby's car, which Libby had been bragging about earlier in the episode. Once the other kids see the Porsche, they no longer want to ride with Libby, which makes her mad.
8. Who does not appear in "And the Sabrina Goes To..."?

Answer: Hilda

She is mentioned in the episode but she does not appear. Zelda says that Hilda is at her high school reunion throughout the whole episode. This is the only episode in the first four seasons (the time that the show was on ABC as part of their TGIF line-up) without her. After the show moved to the WB, there were more episodes without her.

In this episode, Sabrina gets an A on a test and a blue ribbon on her science fair, but no one praises her for these things (but they are willing to praise Valerie for getting third place). They all tell her that she gets good grades and wins contests all the time and it no longer impresses them when she does. Salem tells her to look in her magic book, where she finds a spell where she can make a "Just Dessert" a cake that will make her get recognition. She eats one bite at school, and she gets exactly what she wants: recognition for her achievements. This makes her very happy, so when she gets home, she eats the whole cake. This makes everyone fawn over her for every little thing the next day. She loves it at first. Over time, she gets annoyed by all of this praise and she feels guilty that Gordie and the other good people get no recognition for the good work they did for the orphans. First, she donates all her awards to them. Secondly, Zelda makes Sabrina eat humble pie. Then, the spell is reversed and the constant fawning is over.
9. In "Nobody Nose Libby Like Sabrina Nose Libby," what prize does Salem win?

Answer: Tiny spaceship

When Hilda and Zelda buy groceries from the Other Realm, Salem notices a message on a cereal box that says that if they send 100 box tops to the company, they get a free spaceship. Salem cons the company with lies to give them some free box stops. He gets the spaceship, and then finds out that it is really tiny.

When Sabrina gets home, he begs her to push the button on the ship. When she does, Sabrina and Salem shrink and get inside the ship. Sabrina ends up driving the ship. It ends up going up Libby's nose and in her brain (she came over to the Spellman house to brag about her victory over Sabrina in a vote over how to use money that the school got).

While inside her brain, Sabrina inadvertently makes Libby do some strange things (such as walking hunched over and moving her arms like a monkey, and later on she constantly slaps Mr. Kraft).

When they get out, Libby says that her new throne made her do these things and she concedes the throne and Sabrina ends up getting what she wants with the money (a poetry bash).
10. Who turns Harvey into a beast?

Answer: Susie

When Sabrina's cousin Susie visits to discuss the family secret, Sabrina is horrified to see that Susie has a green face and looks like The Wicked Witch of the West. Susie's personality is similar to Mother Theresa, always doing good deeds for everybody. Despite Sabrina's attempts to deny it, Susie discovers that Sabrina does not like Susie's appearance. Sabrina had become obsessed with appearances because she was trying to get herself and Harvey to get voted "Best-looking couple" so they can appear on the cover of the Westbridge brochure. Sabrina and Harvey win, but at a cost. Susie has a very questionable way of teaching Sabrina a lesson about appearances.

The next day at school, Sabrina notices that Harvey has extra hair on his face. Sabrina goes to an empty classroom and summons Susie. Susie says that when Sabrina learns her lesson, Harvey will change back. Sabrina eventually realized that when Harvey was turned into a frog, she turned him back by kissing him, and she concludes that will work again. Sabrina goes to Harvey's house and sees that Harvey has more hair on his face. She kisses him, but she does not enjoy the kiss, so he does not change back.

Sabrina goes to the pizza place and sees that Harvey is sitting there with more hair on his face and on his head and on his hands. Sabrina sits with him, but then he goes outside to a dumpster. An attractive waiter named Jake asks Sabrina if the guy in the dumpster was really her boyfriend. She denies it, so Harvey still does not change and Sabrina becomes attracted to Jake.

Harvey, in his beastly form, goes to the Spellman house to thank Sabrina for supporting her during his transformation. She invites him inside and they have fun together. When Harvey goes to the bathroom, Jake comes over. Sabrina confesses that the guy in the dumpster really is her boyfriend. Jake transforms into Susie (it's revealed that there really was no Jake and that was Susie in disguise all along) and tells Sabrina that she finally learned her lesson, which is that people should be judged on their personalities, not their appearances. Harvey changes back.

Susie is the only person to give Sabrina two clues for the family secret. First, she gives her a whip. Secondly, she says "We all have good parts and bad parts."

I always found it questionable what Susie did to Harvey. Harvey got turned into a beast, ostracized by everyone except Sabrina, and had to visit several doctors. He didn't even do anything wrong. Susie put Harvey through all this torture just to teach Sabrina a lesson. Susie is characterized is being a sweet and caring person, but her treatment of Harvey is uglier than her physical appearance. She is never punished for what she does to Harvey, either.
