Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the host of the Interstellar Song Contest?

Answer: Rylan Clark

Rylan Clark keeps himself in a cryogenic deep freeze so she can still host the successor to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Clark got his start on the "X Factor" in 2012. He then won "Celebrity Big Brother" in 2013. Over the next decade, he became ubiquitous on British television as a presenter. Starting in 2018, he became a co-host of the Eurovision song awards.

Graham Norton has hosted the Eurovision awards. Since 2013, he has hosted one of
England's more popular talk shows. Graham has a cameo as a hologram; he informs the Doctor and Belinda of the destruction of Earth in 2025.

Bradley Walsh was Graham during Jodie Whittaker's time as the Doctor. He is also a popular game show host and presenter. Davina McCall had a cameo on "The Church
on Ruby Road" (2024).
2. What year does the "Interstellar Song Contest" take place in?

Answer: 2925

Rylan Clark asks the year and is told "2925". The song contest is celebrating its 803rd edition. The concert takes place at Harmony Arena, which seats at least 100,000 people.
3. What is the audience of the song contest?

Answer: 3 trillion

With a substantial portion of the galaxy watching, viewership is a little over 3 trillion. Except for a few times where the Doctor saved the entire universe, this has to be a new record for the Doctor saving people. Three trillion people would be roughly 350 Earths.
4. What planet do Kid and Wynn come from?

Answer: Hellia

There are from Hellia, which was ravaged by a large corporation to provide honey
flavorings. Once they had taken all the resources, the corporation left the planet a desolate hellscape whose former residents were pariahs.
5. What is the first musical act we see in "The Interstellar Song Contest"?

Answer: Liz Lizzardine

Liz Lizzardine of the planet Lizoko was first up with "Love You But My Heart Says No."

Grimbald sang "Dugga Doo." Cora Saint Bavier, a survivor of Hellia, sang a soulful song about the destruction of her planet. Diva Plavalanguna is from "The Fifth Element" (1997).

Liz Lizzardine was played by Christina Rotondo. This is her second "Doctor Who" appearance. She was Janis Goblin in "The Church on Ruby Road" (2024).
6. What are the names of the couple who helped the Doctor?

Answer: Mike and Gary

Michael was a nurse and Gary was a computer expert. In a slightly Deus Ex Machina move, they had the exact skill sets necessary for the Doctor to defeat the bad guys and rescue the people trapped in space.

Mike was able to use the first aid kit to revive the Doctor and used Rylan's cryogenic chamber to restore the frozen audience members.

Mike was played by Kardiff Kirwan. He has been acting in television since 2015,
starting with "Call the Midwife." He is probably best known for his work on
"Timewasters" (2019).

Gary was played by Charlie Condou. He started acting as a teenager in the 1980s.
Condou is a leading LGBT rights activist. He is most noted for his role as Marcus Dent on the soap opera "Coronation Street" (2007-2014).
7. The Doctor got so angry he killed Kid.

Answer: False

The Doctor is certainly outraged, more angry than we've ever seen the Fifteenth Doctor. And he takes out his rage in a savage beating of Kidd, but Belinda manages to stop the Doctor before he goes too far.

Freddie Fox was Kidd. He is the son of noted British actor Edward Fox. He has been acting since 2009, in a variety of films and TV shows. He was Freddie Baxter in " Cucumber" (2015) and "Banana" (also 2015). Fox has also done lots of theatre work in London.
8. What companion from the 1960s makes a return in "The Interstellar Song Contest"?

Answer: Susan Foreman

Carole Anne Ford, who played the Doctor's granddaughter Susan in the first two
seasons of "Doctor Who," returns over 40 years later. We see her in several visions by the Doctor in which she is on the TARDIS and calling him "grandfather."

The last time we saw Susan, the Doctor was leaving her on 22nd century Earth, where she had fallen in love with a human. William Hartnell gave a classic speech on their parting.

Last year, with all the references to Sue, the Doctor thought it might be Susan. It turned out to be Sutekh, the evil Egyptian god of destruction.

Carole Ann Ford was born in June 1940, so she was 83 at the time of filming.

Maureen O'Brien (Vicki), Anneke Willis (Polly), and Wendy Padbury (Zoe) were also all living at the time "The Interstellar Song Contest" was filmed so they could have appeared.
9. What nemesis of the Doctor does Mrs Flood turn out to be?

Answer: The Rani

In a mind-blowing last-minute revelation, it turns out that Mrs Flood is an incarnation of the Rani, a Time Lady who is a mad scientist.

We first met the Rani in the Sixth Doctor adventure "Mark of the Rani" (1985), in which she does science experiments on 18th century coal miners. The Rani returned in "Time of the Rani" (1987) which was the debut of Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy and is widely regarded as one of the worst episodes in the show's history.

Kate O'Mara was the original Rani. She had a wide-ranging resume, from playing
Shakespeare on stage to Hammer horror film to spy dramas like "The Saint" and "the Avengers." O'Mara died of cancer in 2014.

Archie Panjabi is the new Rani. She is probably best known as investigator Kalinda Sharma in "The Good Wife" (2009-2015) for which she earned an Emmy Award. Panjabi began acting in 1993 and has been in a wide variety of roles in film and on British and US television. Kids may remember her from "Postman Pat". She was born in Edgeware, Middlesex, England in May 1972.

Ben Williams directed the episode. His credits include "Six Four" (2023) and "War of the Worlds" (2021).

Julie Dray was Sabine, the co-host of the contest. She has been acting since 2001 and is probably best known for he work on the TV series "Avenue 5" (2020).
