Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What year do the Doctor and Belinda arrive in?

Answer: 1952

A newsreel at the start of the episode talks about nuclear bomb tests and the death of George VI, setting the era as 1952. The Doctor and Belinda use the magic closet to get clothing appropriate to the 1950s - you have to love Fifteen's fashion sense.
2. Where has the TARDIS landed in "Lux"?

Answer: Miami

The Doctor is once again in 1952, this time on the other side of the Atlantic. They land in Miami outside a creepy movie studio. The Doctor mentions the segregation laws that were on the books in 1950s Florida.
3. When Belinda calls the Doctor "Scooby Doo" how does he reply?

Answer: I'm Velma

The Doctor quite correctly identifies as Velma, the nerdy girl who provides about 90 percent of the brains for Team Scooby Doo.

"Scooby Doo" was an animated series about a group of teenagers and their Great Dane who solved supernatural mysteries. The series was on CBS from 1969 to 1976 and ABC from 1976 to 1986. The show has become part of the cultural zeitgeist, with numerous references in pop culture, especially science fiction and fantasy shows.
4. What is the name of the cartoon that came to life in "Lux"?

Answer: Mr Ring-A-Ding

Mr Ring A Ding is a classic 1930s era cartoon character. He was voiced by Alan Cumming, who previously played King James I in "The Witchfinders" (2018). Cumming is one of Scotland's most noted actors, with a BAFTA, two Emmys, two Tonys and an Olivier Award.

Mr Ring-a-Ding first appeared in the 1935 cartoon "Mr Ring-A-Ding Goes to Town." In the cartoon he meets Sally Sunshine. He comes to life when moonlight is reflected into the film projector, imbuing the cartoon with the powers of Lux, the god of light.
5. What was the name of the theater in "Lux"?

Answer: Palazzo

It was the Palazzo Theater. It had been closed for three months following the strange disappearance of fifteen people. The only person still left in the theatre was the projectionist, Reginald Py. He remained because Lux brought his late wife back to life through the use of home movies.

The Palazzo scenes were shot at Penarth Pier in Cardiff. The theater was showing a fictional Rock Hudson film called "The Harvest Bringer." (HAR-BINGER)
6. What were the names of the Whovians that the Doctor and Belinda met?

Answer: Lizzie, Hassan and Robyn

At first, the Whovians, Lizzie, Hassan, and Robyn tell the Doctor and Belinda they are fictional characters on a television show. They are some great meta moments, including Robyn mentioning on-line leaks about the current episode.

In an ultra-meta twist, the Whovians then admit they are fictional, the Doctor is real and that they are a mirage created by Lux to fool the Doctor. In a funny gag at the end of the episode, the Whovians marvel that they still exist.

Lizzie Abel was played by Bronte Barbe, Robyn Gossage was Steph Lacey and Hassan Chowdry was Samir Arrian. The other choices I listed are the moderators of "Doctor Who" podcasts.
7. What did the Whovians name as their favorite episode of "Doctor Who"?

Answer: Blink

In another great meta moment, Ncuti Gatwa mentions several of his adventures as the Doctor, only to have the Whoivans default to "Blink" as their favorite. Fifteen brings up "Church on Ruby Road" (2024), "The Devil's Chord" (2024), and "Boom" (2024).

For the record, "Blink" is one of Stephen Moffatt's great episodes - he won a Hugo Award for it. It introduces the Weeping Angels, one of the scariest monsters in the Who universe. It is a Doctor-lite episode, with Carey Mulligan doing most of the heavy lifting, while the Doctor and Martha are trapped in 1969. Mulligan's Sally Sparrow manages to evade the angels and rescue the Doctor, pretty impressive for a shop owner.
8. What was the name of Mrs Lowenstein's son?

Answer: Tommy

Tommy Lee Lowenstein, to be exact. He is returned to reality along with the others in the theater and reunites with his mother.

Cassius Hackworth played Tommy. He is an American, from Massachusetts. His credits include a small role in "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" (2023) and the British medical drama "Casualty" (2025).
9. How did the Doctor defeat Lux?

Answer: Exposed him to sunlight

Lux is the god of light, the latest in the Pantheon of Discord, which includes the Celestial Toymaker, Maestro, and the Trickster. Lux indicates his true nature by spelling out "harbinger" on the theater marquee.

At one point, the Doctor asks the Whovians how to defeat Lux, but they refused to answer, citing "spoilers." The key lay in the fact that Lux was never outside. Belinda used burning film stock to create a massive explosion, which blew a hole in the wall and exposed Lux to sunlight. The superpowered light caused him to expand exponentially and explode.
10. Who directed the season 2 episode "Lux"?

Answer: Amanda Brotchie

Amanda Brotchie directed "Lux" (2025), one of the most meta-episodes in the history of the show. She also directed "The Well" (2025). Brotchie won several awards for her work on the Australian comedy series "Lowdown" (2012).

Anita Dobson is the mysterious Mrs Flood, who was been a recurring character since "The Church on Ruby Road" (2024). This season, she has been a little more sinister.

Steph Lacey was Robyn Gossage, the Whovian. She appeared as Megan Campbell on "Red Eye" (2024).

Lucy Thackeray was Renee Lowenstein, Tommy's mom. She has been working in British television since 2014. Her credits include "Moon Knight" (2022) and "Black Ops" (2023).
