Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. DK and Pauline drop into Resort Layer through a tunnel created by the Pay-Dirt Piledriver, but only after a lengthy battle. Who do they need to fight to set off this chain of events?

Answer: Void King

Once DK and Pauline complete their quests in both the Freezer Layer and the Forest Layer, collecting Bananzas from each, they'll reach The Junction with the ability to rid their path of the two sources of Void and make it to Clash Point just in time to catch up to Void King and his lackeys. What will follow is a battle spanning multiple previously-visited Layers and then a fight atop the Pay-Dirt Piledriver.

While DK and Pauline can win this fight, it won't stop the inevitable-- the descent of the infernal machine as it heads down into the Resort Layer below.
2. When DK first arrives in the Resort Layer, where does he drop down?

Answer: On land

Although the Resort Layer consists of a series of small islands and sand bars in the middle of a crystal-clear sea, it's fortunate that DK will land on Sublayer 800 on Juicy Beach, a sandy stretch down the de facto path from a Fractone-populated Tropical Retreat.

The trail here will lead the duo through to the resort beach, but then onward and upward to an otherwise blocked-off hole in the middle of the Layer. It's doubtful they won't hit the water at all during the trip.
3. One distinct feature of the Resort Layer appears to be massive, cube-shaped fruits. Which of these is the largest in the Layer?

Answer: Watermelon

The massive watermelon block is a key fixture of the Layer as it can be seen from nearly every vantage point, rising on a rock pedestal in the middle of the water. The goal in the Resort Layer will become quickly apparent; despite being inaccessible from underneath, DK's route will take him up along a series of floating platforms and islands to the top of this giant fruit feature.

In addition to this massive block, there are also giant orange and strawberry blocks to be found throughout the map, many of which hold their own secrets.
4. Despite mostly being found on land, Trailfinoids, found in this Layer for the first time, resemble which of these animals?

Answer: Shark

These new enemies seem to be quite eager to take a bite out of DK, charging themselves up for a straight-line attack directly towards food and then, when they jolt forwards, leaving a trail of unique, colourful terrain behind them. Trailfinoids aren't too difficult to knock out (all it takes is a good punch), but what needs to be taken into account is that their trailblazing doesn't stop when they're hit.

Instead, you can knock them in a direction and leave an arcing trail that extends far into the distance, perhaps creating bridges or conveniently-placed materials to aid your journey.
5. Which Fractone doesn't appear in the Resort Layer?

Answer: Groovetone

Groove Tones only appear in the Groove Layer, much further along in the adventure, but most other Fractone types frequent the relaxing parts of the Resort Layer. A Bloomintone can be found in a giant flowerpot on a distant island, waiting for sunlight; the Quiztone is just offshore from the Tropical Retreat, waiting to give three questions; the Smashintone is on the Tropical Retreat island, ready to give a Banandium Gem over if DK has destroyed enough sand to satisfy his benchmark. You'll also find Growtone, Seekertone, Hiddentones, and Fragmentone around.
6. Which of these is the name of one of the Challenge Courses found in the Resort Layer?

Answer: Mine-Cart Country

Every once in a while, DK will enter a Challenge Course gateway and emerge into a side-scrolling stage that hearkens back to the old-school "Donkey Kong Country" classics of yesteryear complete with a remastered soundtrack. Mine-Cart Country shows up on the Tropical Retreat island, and the challenge here involves collecting three Banandium Gems by taking a ride in a mine-cart, avoiding pitfalls while crashing into as much gold as possible.

The other Challenge Courses in the Resort Layer are Ice-Serve Switcheroo and Switch-Lane Skyway.
7. One of the higher checkpoints in the Resort Layer goes by which name?

Answer: Skydive Isle

The climb to the top of the giant watermelon block will take DK up along the sides and surfaces of a series of floating islands in the sky, and to get there, he'll need to grab hold of the mysterious rainbow substance found below the sand (or created by the Trailfinoids).

The largest of the island platforms is Skydive Isle, which is significant enough in size to warrant several to-dos for Banandium Gems and an Architectone. From here, it's only a long leap to the end goal.
8. There is only one Fossil type in the Resort Layer. Which is it?

Answer: Leaf

There are thirty of these Fossils to be found across Sublayer 800, and while the Leaf appeared back in the Canyon Layer in much more substance, it shows up again here in an alternative colour to differentiate when you show up at the Styletone's shop in the Tropical Retreat.

There are no outfits that allow DK and Pauline to swap out bonuses here, but there are four unique fur colours that DK can collect if he wants to spend what he finds. There are no larger or rare Fossils to be found here, unlike other, larger Layers.
9. Does DK fight a boss in the Resort Layer?

Answer: No

It's actually quite the nice change, and Pauline will make note of the rare instance when you head downwards to the next Layer, but the Resort Layer is devoid of massive boss fights with the Pay-Dirt Piledriver having already moved on by the time the pair arrive. Once DK makes it to the top of the watermelon block he simply needs to barrel down into it to destroy it altogether, wiping out the Void Stake inside and leaving the Big Watermelon Memorial Checkpoint behind in its absence. From here, it's just another sinkhole to sink into. Vacation over.
10. Passing into the sinkhole in the Resort Layer will lead DK and Pauline down to Sublayer 900. Which of these is found there?

Answer: Tempest Layer

Sublayer 800 stands on its own which may or may not be a welcome change from Sublayers 500 and 600 (Freezer and Forest Layers, respectively) since they had significantly more Sublayers attached to them. Instead, DK and Pauline will need to leave the relaxing beaches behind and drop into a turbulent Layer one hundred Sublayers down. Fortunately, just as with the earlier Layers, dropping down into the new destination will allow them to collect a Banandium Gem bunch as a reward for completing the earlier region.
