Eddy Gordo was introduced in "Tekken 3" and is a skilled fighter from Brazil who uses capoeira as his fighting style. His background story is that he had been on a mission to seek justice for his family. While in prison during that time, he spent years learning capoeira from a master who was also incarcerated.

Players quickly responded well to this new character and his fighting skills and Eddy was in subsequent releases of the series. The introduction of Eddy Gordo is credited with bringing capoeira to a wider video playing audience and influencing popular culture.

Interestingly, a man named Marcelo Pereira, a master of capoeira himself, was the resource used to model the character and his moves. Pereira disliked the fact the company named the character "Gordo" since that means "fat" in Portugese.

Pupa is in the tag-team fighting game called "Rage of the Dragons". She was born in Brazil and likes to eat, dance, practice capoeira, and take apart machinery. After her mother died, she was sent with her brother to America. Her part of the game involves joining a friend to locate her brother who became lost in a big metropolis named Sunshine City.

Pupa uses a variety of kicks that looks like breakdancing. She also does many capoeira moves. One of her unique features, however, is the fact that she is always carrying a wrench and incorporates that tool in her fights.

The "Fatal Fury" games take place in a fictional town that is loosely based on Miami, Florida. Richard Mayer is one of the characters that take place in the fighting tournaments held there. He also owns the local Pao Pao Café where many fighters hang out and occasionally get into a bar tussle. He is known to be very acrobatic due to his usage of capoeira fighting techniques.

This character is also the bartender at his establishment and is known to be able to whip up all different cocktails. Perhaps he could make a Brazilian caipirinha, which is made with sugarcane hard liquor, sugar, and lime.

Answer: Finding a cure for her grandfather's illness

Christie Monteiro was introduced in "Tekken 4" where it was explained she learned capoeira from a fellow character named Eddy Gordo, who had learned it from her grandfather. Now that her grandfather was very sick, Christie enters tournaments hoping to raise enough money to fund a drive to cure her grandfather. She is known to normally fight for causes rather than for glory.

This character was quickly adopted by the video community as she was an attractive, smart woman who could also master capoeira martial arts.

Answer: Atlantis

Sega released the original "Eternal Champions" in 1993 to compete in the fighting game craze. It's based on nine characters who enter fighting tournaments in order to be granted time travel back to their own period and change the course of history. Trident is from Atlantis and hopes to go back and save his people from banishment to the sea. Many of his unschooled opponents think he is dancing when he begins a tournment, only to find out he is utilizing the capoeira fighting style.

Incidentally, he got his name Trident because his right hand got bitten off by a shark and it was replaced by the Atlanteans with a trident weapon. He also has a fear of stone pillars of any kind because he was crushed under one that caused his demise.

Elena was featured in "Street Fighter III: New Generation" which is a one-on-one fighting game between opponents. She was introduced as a tribal princess from Africa who has toured the world. She is shown to be six feet tall with silvery white hair and striking eyes. Elena latched on to capoeira since it fits in well with a dancing style she learned back in Kenya. Because she has very long legs, she is known to only use leg-based attacks in her fight.

Elena has the power to heal herself which can be used as a super power in her fights. She is also lighthearted, though, and is known to end her fights sitting down next to her (usually) passed out opponent and saying "Why don't we lie down for a while? The weather's nice!"

Answer: Echidna

Echidna is in the video game "The Bouncer" and is a supervisor in the Mikado Group, where she fights the various bouncers, including a character named Volt. She is very flamboyant and arrogant and boasts revealing outfits, high heeled sandals, and elaborate horn-like hairstyles. Although she appears to be weak at times, she is actually very good at utilizing her capoeira fighting technique.

Her real name is Aena Paula. She deemed this too "soft" a name and changed it to Echidna. This is in reference to the mythological monster, half-woman and half-snake, who was the mother of many of the most famous monsters of Greek myth.

The "King of Fighters" franchise decided to develop twin brothers in relation to other male duos in competing games. Soiree and his brother Alba grew up in an orphanage until the age of fourteen when they ran away. They then honed their fighting skills under a boss named Fate. Soiree trained in the art of capoeira and idolizes his older twin brother. He is known to wear colorful cowboy clothes and to showboat.

Soiree's nickname is "The Angel of Darkness" and he can use energy to increase his kicking attacks while performing capoeira moves.

Tiger Jackson was introduced in "Tekken 3" as a model swap of Eddy Gordo. However, he became quite popular and shows up again in the "Tekken Tag Tournament" game. He is an African-American disco dancer who also happens to be quite good at capoeira fighting. He loves hanging out in clubs and listening to '70s tunes.

His name was originally planned to be Soul Jackson but just prior to the release of "Tekken 3", with its new use of three dimensional technology, the production company landed on the first name Tiger.

A new member of the Psycho Soldier team to battle them is introduced. Her name is Momoko and she is a high school student but looks young enough to be in elementary school and always has to correct people about her age. She knows capoeira fighting and is always trying to impress others in her team with her moves. Momoko can use energy beams to aid in her fighting moves.

Momoko means "peach child" in Japanese.
