Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Évêque is the first boss of the game, and it introduces which battle mechanic?

Answer: Shielding

The largest Nevron that Gustave and Lune will encounter in the Spring Meadows, shortly after awakening from the massacre on the landing beach at the start of the expedition, will be Évêque, whose efforts combine the attack styles of the Abbests and Lanceliers that they battle along the route through this early area. Évêque, whose name translates to 'Bishop', hits hard and has a good amount of fortitude that makes it capable of shielding from attacks, effectively blocking all damage from single hits. Évêque also has the ability to call in reinforcements and build up its power for a late-battle final blow if you're not quick enough on the draw.
2. Found in the Flying Waters, Goblu appears to attack only when Gustave touches which of these items?

Answer: Flower

After Gustave and Lune locate Maelle and attempt to leave out the far exit of Flying Waters, they'll come across a Flowery Field and trigger a battle against Goblu, a hearty boss who can attack one or all party members with a good amount of force. The catch is that Goblu leans hard on its flowers, and at two points in the battle, he'll generate flowers that the party will need to Free Aim to destroy, otherwise Goblu will draw in their powers to shield himself from harm.

At the end of the battle, Lune will acknowledge that the boss will only attack if he harms the flowers, and they'll part ways from the creature to leave.
3. Does Expedition 33 battle the Ultimate Sakapatate in the Gestral Village?

Answer: No

While the Ultimate Sakapatate was created by the gestrals in an attempt to construct a better fighting machine, Gustave, Lune, and Maelle encounter it shortly before locating the Gestral Village as it appears at the far end of the Ancient Sanctuary. Bearing a Canon Arm and a massive shield, this boss packs a few deadly attacks in its arsenal, but if the party can open up its weak point and destroy its shoulder, it'll rid the Sakapatate of some of these dangers. It won't necessarily stop it from using a dead gestral as a weapon though.

In the Gestral Village, it will become apparent that the gestrals are already working on an Ultimate Ultimate Sakapatate to replace this one.
4. François, the turtle in Esquie's Nest, uses which of the following?

Answer: Strongest Ice Attack Ever

When the Expedition arrives in Esquie's Nest, Esquie will be more than willing to help the party get across the sea, but only when he retrieves his rock, Florrie, who he believes to be in the clutches of his neighbour, a bickering turtle known as François, who happens to be in an adjoining cavern. The group will have to fight the turtle in any case, and it will lead to his use of the Strongest Ice Attack Ever, a single-target blast.

At the end of the battle, it'll turn out that François never had Florrie in the first place, and the Expedition will have to head to Stone Wave Cliffs to find it.
5. The Lamp Trial that you face when fighting the Lampmaster requires that you hit how many lamps with Free Aim?

Answer: Four

At the end of the Stone Wave Cliffs area, the Expedition will find this boss in possession of Florrie, and they'll have no choice but to face it in its darkened cavern to get Esquie what he needs. The battle may be a tough one if you haven't gotten the rhythm of battle down quite yet as the first half will involve facing a multi-armed creature and the second will intensify the general combat, adding in a 'Lamp Trial' in which its four hovering lamps will ignite in a particular order. If you succeed in hitting all four in the same order with Free Aim shots, you'll pass the trial while failure to do so requires payment of a steep price.

Defeating the Lampmaster will result in the team being able to move forward across the sea, but not before a seismic event results in the loss of a critical member of the Expedition.
6. The Dualliste will introduce the 'Inverted' effect on your party and it will affect when your characters perform which action?

Answer: Heal

The reason for many ended Expeditions on the Continent, the Dualliste appears when the group passes through the Forgotten Battleground, appearing at a pivotal crossing and standing in the way of Expedition 33's success (if not for Verso's advice). The Dualliste will strike multiple times with its blade and, in the first phase of its battle, be adept with leveraging newly-learned Gradient Attacks. The catch is that in the second phase of the fight, the Dualliste will affect the party with the 'Inverted' status, causing everyone to take harm if they attempt to heal themselves. While you can revive a fallen teammate if they do die, any actual recovery has the opposite effect.

Beating the Dualliste will allow Expedition 33 to overcome a hurdle that most other Expeditions fall to, and it will easily prove Verso's worth as a resource.
7. Once the Stalact is defeated in Monoco's Station, Monoco will steal which of these from its body?

Answer: A foot

The only foe to face at Monoco's Station (besides Monoco himself) will be the Stalact as it's there as somewhat of a demonstration for the party's newly-acquired ability to perform their own Gradient Attacks (instead of just parrying foes' attacks). This battle should allow the Gradient Counter to fill enough to fight back with this new ability.

Monoco himself will sit back for this battle, only jumping in when it's complete to claim the Stalact's foot for his own uses. The foot will grant him the power to take on the nevron's form and attack with a heavy hit. Monoco can do the same with other enemies, retaining their skills for his Bestial Wheel.
8. Which of these is NOT one of the masks used by Visages in battle?

Answer: Fury Mask

Although the Expedition will fight the foes spawned by the Anger, Joy, and Sadness Masks found throughout Visages Island should they choose to weaken the boss before attempting the final fight there, they will nonetheless need to face the many masks of Visages at the end of this area, and there will only be five to see in the battle. The boss will flip between several masks, one-at-a-time, in the fight, and each one will demonstrate different powers, all of which will harm the party in some way. The masks will appear in a mirror on the edge of a cliff, and turn-by-turn, they will recede and a new one will emerge. All of them contribute to the boss' overall health though, so just going for it and striking Visages works.

The five masks found in the battle are the Determination Mask, the Doubt Mask, the Anxiety Mask, the Peace Mask, and the Confidence Mask.
9. The Mask Keeper is known as 'He Who Guards Truth With...' what?

Answer: Lies

Determined to be the true Axon of Visages, the Mask Keeper will emerge to fight immediately after you defeat the Visages boss, and without so much as a second to heal you'll be set into a back-to-back battle. If you did not complete the three Vales of Visages and destroy the Joy, Anger, and Sadness Masks, this is when they'll appear, supporting the Mask Keeper. Otherwise, this is simply a battle against a strong foe who has weaknesses to fire and dark attacks.

If the Expedition can defeat the Mask Keeper, they can take his power back to the Curator as one half of the Axon materials needed to reach the Monolith. Before leaving, however, Verso will quietly remark that the Mask Keeper was a creation of Renoir's to reflect Verso, himself.
10. Which boss of Sirène is optional?

Answer: Tisseur

Visiting the island of Sirène to collect the Axon there will have the Expedition passing through the halls and caverns of a massive colosseum, and there, you'll find a couple other impediments on the journey.

The first of these is Tisseur, found in the Sewing Atelier creating garments for Sirène. Hard at work, the foe appears to have no interest in fighting unless the Expedition initiates. The catch is that avoiding this fight will lead Tisseur to support Sirène in her own battle later on.

Glissando appears further along in the area and has the ability not only to consume party members like the Bourgeon, but to Charm them, causing your party members to fight each other if afflicted. Several Glissandos may also appear in the fight against Sirène.
11. Who, in a cinematic, deals the final blow against Sirène?

Answer: Lune

While Sciel is the final party member to strike down Visage and complete the other Axon's fight (regardless of who's in your party), Lune deals the final blow against Sirène, using a massive blast of magic to bring the boss' health down to the point where it can be outright destroyed. The fight in general is quite elaborate as Sirène will use its powers to create wonder and draw upon all of its creations. In addition to creating Danseurs to come in and charm the party members, she'll use Glissandos to swoop in and make their attacks, and she'll be supported by Tisseur if it wasn't defeated earlier on in the area.

If you've already defeated Visage at this point, Sirène will provide the second and final piece of the Barrier Breaker needed to advance on the Monolith.
12. During the battle with Renoir in the Monolith, he'll summon which of these halfway through the fight?

Answer: The Dark Creature

At long last, the rematch against Renoir occurs when you reach the near-end of the path through the Monolith's different regions as he guards the door to the peak and the Paintress. Acting as a last stand before the group reaches their goal, he uses swift attacks and devastating magic creations to keep the Expedition at bay. Halfway through the battle, he'll call upon 'The Dark Creature', a creation that will first heal his health bar to full before joining the fight with more fearsome attacks.

When the battle concludes, Maelle will be able to step forward and do away with Renoir with a little help from the Curator, and the party can proceed to what they presume to be their final encounter.
13. Which of these attacks will the Paintress NOT use during her battle?

Answer: The Paintress summons a Black Hole.

Summoning a Black Hole is actually in Renoir's arsenal, but the others appear during the two phases of the Paintress fight, which commences as the Expedition reaches the summit of the Monolith and shows down against the grief-stricken creator of the most of the Canvas. The first half of the fight is more grounded, but when the Paintress is felled, she'll reemerge in the form of the massive creature stationed in front of the Monolith, forcing the group to take the sky on Esquie's back (using a third magic rock, Soarrie). It's during this second half of the fight that she'll literally tear open the walls of reality to fight back.

When defeated, the Paintress will be no more. Aline will be cast out of the Canvas altogether, the Expedition will plant their flag, and they'll head back to Lumière to celebrate... before it all goes terribly wrong.
14. All of your party members will be afflicted with what status effect when they face Création?

Answer: Inverted

A particularly tough status effect to overcome, Inverted causes your party members to be incapable of using healing effects on themselves as any health healed is taken as damage instead (excluding revives). It makes this a particularly precarious fight against one of Renoir's-- the real Renoir's-- most fearsome creations. Found at the edge of the gardens of Lumière, Création joins battle with two Aberrations by its side and casts Void attacks (in addition to striking with harsh physical strikes). If the Expedition can force their way through, they'll find the final Expedition Flag on the other side and have one last boss to overcome.
15. Who will deal the final blow against Renoir in the final boss battle?

Answer: Maelle

No matter who you have in your party for this final boss battle, Maelle will emerge to plunge her sword through Renoir and end his time in the Canvas once and for all, but not before several tough phases of the fight in which her father, appearing as the Curator, uses every creation at his disposal to fight off the Expedition.

In this last fight, Renoir will use Void energy consistently before restoring his health once it's empty. When all seems lost, Aline will return to the Canvas in an attempt to force him out, fighting off the Axons that he's called forth to give him support. It will lead to one last, tense fight with all the firepower he can muster.

Renoir will, before he departs, beg Maelle to follow him back to the real world, but he'll have no choice but to concede, hoping she makes the right decision for herself in the end.
