Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This is the eighth mission of the campaign. It is not the eighth mission, chronologically. If we were to place all "Black Ops 1" campaign missions in chronological order, where would Project Nova be?

Answer: First

There are brief flashes where the camera pans to a headshot of Reznov while he tells Alex Mason the events that went down, but all direct gameplay takes place far, far in the past.
2. Like in 'Numbers', the player does not play as Alex Mason in this mission. Who do they play as?

Answer: Viktor Reznov

The entire game to be played is as Reznov is alongside Dimitri Petrenko. In "World at War", the player plays as Petrenko, alongside Reznov, for the entire Russian side of that game's campaign, so this was a pretty neat sequence.
3. What is the objective of the playable part of this mission?

Answer: Rescue Steiner

Lev Kravchenko is calling the shots in this sequence. He tells the army explicitly that they are not to harm Steiner, or they will be executed for doing so.
4. This is a unique mission with highly unique weaponry. What is the first weapon the player gets to use?

Answer: PPSh-41

The player is playing as Viktor Reznov, a Russian, who is fighting alongside a cabal of other Russians, under the command of Russian leadership. As such, it would be pretty silly if he just whipped out an American classic like an M1 Garand or an M1A1 Carbine.

Instead, the Russian SMG PPSh-41, a "Call of Duty" fan favorite, will more than suffice. For a secondary weapon, the player has a Mosin Nagant rifle.
5. The enemies themselves in this mission can drop classic, unique weaponry that isn't seen anywhere else in this campaign. What is one weapon the player can pick up in this mission?

Answer: Panzerschrek

The Panzerschrek is not seen anywhere else in the entirety of "Black Ops 1", only usable in this very mission. It was previously seen in "World at War", where it could be wielded in Multiplayer and Zombies. Although Zombies maps from that game did come to this game, they removed the Panzerschrek from the Mystery Box, and there's no other way to obtain it.
6. Dimitri Petrenko makes a return in this mission, seen for the first time since "World at War". He is not playable here despite being playable entirely in that game. What becomes of him in Project Nova?

Answer: He dies

As the team gets to near the end of the mission, Petrenko and a number of other Russians are sealed inside a room. Horrifyingly, they are then used as guinea pigs for Dragovich to test Nova 6 on. It is here where the immediate, lethal impact of Nova 6 is shown to the player firsthand.

Despite his actions fought on behalf of Russia during World War II, Petrenko's end came as a test subject for a deadly chemical compound. All Viktor Reznov can do is watch in horror as his comrade in arms is butchered right in front of his eyes.
7. Viktor Reznov is seen recounting the story of what happened to Dimitri Petrenko to Alex Mason. As he does so, he utters a line that would be repeated many, many times for the rest of the campaign. He says: "Dragovich, Kravchenko, Steiner... all must ___". What word properly fills in the blank?

Answer: Die

Having watched these three men wrongfully kill a number of his army brothers as a simple test subject, Reznov rightfully became extremely bitter and vengeful towards them. It was this event which inspired him to tamper with the KGB's brainwashing of Mason; originally, the KGB programmed Mason to kill President John F Kennedy.

But Reznov managed to redirect this programmed rage towards Dragovich, Kravchenko and Steiner.
8. There is intel in this mission that briefly references a wonder weapon from Zombies. What weapon?

Answer: Wunderwaffe DG2

It doesn't do in depth on the weapon itself, but intel does describe that the prototype model for this weapon and its assembly were underway. Given that the Wunderwaffe DG2 debuted on a map based in 1948, and Project Nova is based in 1940, this timeline makes sense.
9. Intel can also go in depth on an interesting case with Dimitri Petrenko. Intel can only confirm that he actually survived World War II, but it cannot confirm his whereabouts despite the player seeing Petrenko in front of their face. Why is this?

Answer: He broke out of an infirmary

Intel doesn't say exactly what, but it does say Petrenko required treatment for something after WWII ended. It then goes on to state that he stayed at an infirmary for two months, then left in the middle of the night against his doctors' orders. He was then formally reassigned to the task force seen in the Project Nova mission.
10. There is one side achievement for this mission, and it's a little bit bizarre. Towards the very end, the player must escape a ship that has been rigged with explosives. To earn the "Light Foot" achievement, they must escape the ship with the timer on said explosives on a very specific number to detonate. What number is it?

Answer: Two minutes, fifteen seconds

The player has three minutes to escape the ship. If they fail, the ship blows up with them on it, a failure forcing a retry.

To earn the achievement, they must escape the ship in precisely 45 seconds. It's important to note that it must be exactly 45 seconds. If you're an absolute god at this game and manage to make it off the ship in just fifteen seconds, you will not earn the achievement unless you stand at the exit for exactly 30 seconds, and then escape. The timer must say "2:15" right as the player escapes.
