1. Rice University

Rice University is located in Houston, Texas. The school is known for its science and engineering programs. Established in 1912, the college took on the motto "Letters, science, art!"
2. Stanford

Stanford University is a private research university located in Stanford, California. The school's nickname is the Stanford Cardinal (yes, without the "s" on the end) and uses a tree for its mascot. The prestigious school was recently added to the Atlantic Coast Conference after years of being in the Pacific 10 Conference.
3. Bowling Green State University

Bowling Green State University is located in the same named city in Ohio. Located just south of Toledo, BGSU is a member of the Mid-American Conference and a Division-1 school.
4. Gonzaga

The private university located in Spokane, Washington is Gonzaga University. The private Jesuit college was founded in 1887 by an Italian priest. The school also has a rich basketball tradition including John Stockton, a legendary Hall of Fame point guard who played with the Utah Jazz.
5. Marquette

Marquette University is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The school's nickname was the Marquette Warriors when it won the NCAA basketball tournament in 1977 but is now known as the Marquette Golden Eagles.
6. Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt University is located in Nashville, Tennessee. The school is part of the Southeastern Conference, aka the SEC. The school's academics are top notch and often considered similar to the prestigious Ivy League schools.
7. Tulane

Down in the "Big Easy", we find Tulane University located in New Orleans, Louisiana. The school's famous nickname is the Tulane Green Wave. The private university was established in 1834 and originally known as the Medical College of Louisiana.
8. Elon University

Fittingly, Elon University is located in Elon, North Carolina. A private school with high academic standards, Elon was established in 1889. The school's colors are maroon and gold.
9. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Not far from Cape Canaveral in Florida is Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. The school specializes in aviation and aeronautics and had over 30,000 students in 2024.
10. Northwestern

Northwestern University is a member of the Big 10 conference. The school is located in Evanston, Illinois and often referred to as an "Ivy Plus" college for its high academic standards.
