Jimi Hendrix passed away on 18th September 1970 in London at the age of 27 years 297 days. Officially the cause of death was asphyxiation although it has been suggested that he had overdosed on sleeping pills.
2. Now we meet Mr Pete Ham who joined the club in 1975. Best known as being the leader of Badfinger, how did he meet his end?

Answer: Suicide

Pete Ham left this mortal existence on April 24th 1975 at the age of 27 years 362 days, making him the second oldest member of the club, after hanging himself in his garage in Surrey, England.

Badfinger had three top ten hits in the US and the UK. the most well known of these is 'If You Want It'.

At the age 27 years 125 days Brian Jones was found at the bottom of a swimming pool in East Sussex. Brian Jones was a founding member of The Rolling Stones; according to Bill Wyman in his autobiography 'Rolling With the Stones' "...he formed the band.

He chose the members. He named the band. He chose the music. We played. He got us gigs ... Very influential, very important, and then slowly lost it - highly intelligent - and just kind of wasted it and blew it all away" the last part was a reference to Jones' drug addiction which caused his sacking from the band just one month before his death.

At 27 years and 61 days, Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson is one of the youngest members of the club and died of an overdose of barbiturates on September 3rd 1970.
Alan was given the nickname 'Blind Owl' due to his extreme shortsightedness, on one occasion whilst playing at a wedding he placed his guitar on the wedding cake because he couldn't see it.

Canned Heat were best known for their two hits 'Going Up The Country' and 'On The Road Again'.

July 3rd 1971 and at 27 years 207 days Jim Morrison died, officially, of heart failure. Unfortunately, under French law, as the medical examiner had determined that there was no sign of foul play, no autopsy was performed.

Probably the strangest member of the 27 Club, Richey Edwards joined at 27 years and 41 days of age, after officialy being 'presumed dead'.
On February the 1st 1995 Richey failed to join fellow band member James Dean Bradfield for a flight to the USA for a promotional tour. Although there have been numerous sightings of Richey around the world since that date, none have been confirmed. Richey's car was found on the 14th of February parked close to the Severn Bridge - crossing the River Severn between England and Wales - which is a known suicide spot and he was officially declared as 'presumed dead' on 23rd November 2008.
Is he a true member? The date of his 'presumed death' is noted as being 1st February 1995 when he would have been 27.
8. This member of the 27 Club was a member of The Grateful Dead who sadly shuffled off this mortal coil in 1973. Ron McKernan had an uncomplimentary nickname in the band. Which one of these was it?

There are two stories regarding McKernan's nickname, one that is recorded on the official Grateful Dead website is that it was given to him because of his 'Funky approach to life and sanitation'. The second explanation is that an ex-girfriend claimed that he bore a resembalance to 'Pigpen' from the 'Peanuts' cartoon.

Ron joined the 27 Club on September 8th 1973 at 27 years 181 days. Cause of death was gastrointestinal hemorrhage associated with alcoholism.

Kurt Cobain passed away on the 5th of April 1994 age 27 years and 44 days. The officially recorded cause of death was suicide by a gunshot wound to the head.
Cobain voluntarily entered a 'de-tox' program on March 30th 1994, climbing a six foot fence he left the facility and caught a plane to Seattle. He was discovered dead at his Seattle home on the 8th of April with a shotgun by his side. The coroner estimated that the body had been there since approximately the 5th of April.

At 27 years and 312 days old Amy Winehouse was found dead in bed at her home in London with an elevated blood alcohol level. The coroner recorded a verdict of 'Misadventure'.
