Answer: The X-Files

The book was from the "X-Files" episode called "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" which was the 20th episode of season 3.

It's one of my personal favorite episodes of the series. Alex Trebek and Jesse Ventura appear as two of the men in black during the episode.
2. "Under the Hood" by Hollis Mason

Answer: Watchmen

For the purposes of this quiz the fake book was from the "Watchmen" movie, released in 2009. That movie was an adaptation of a graphic novel of the same name that came about 20 years prior. The graphic novel was written by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

Answer: Murder, She Wrote

Jessica Fletcher was played by Angela Lansbury from 1984-2003 on the series. In the series she was a mystery writer who often solved mysteries before writing books about them.

"The Corpse Danced at Midnight" was the first of more than 42 books mentioned by name in the series.
4. "Microchip Logic: The Liberation Of the Left Brain" by John Valentine

Answer: The Twilight Zone

This book was mentioned during the "Twilight Zone" movie. The scene in the TV series of the same name. John Lithgow portrayed the author, John Valentine in the movie.

Answer: Saturday the 14th

Released in 1981, the movie was a spoof of horror movies of the time. "The Book of Evil" was a spoof of the "Necronomicon" from the "Evil Dead" films.

The movie featured the acting talents of Richard Benjamin, Paula Prentiss, Jeffrey Tambor, Severn Darden, Kari Michaelsen, Rosemary DeCamp, Kevin Brando, Nancy Lee Andrews and many others.

Answer: Ghostbusters II

The second movie in the "Ghostbusters" franchise was released in 1989.
The author appeared on the TV series "The World of the Psychic" which was hosted by Bill Murray's Peter Venkman. Kevin Dunn, uncredited, played the character in the movie.
7. "A Match Made in Space" by George McFly

Answer: Back to the Future

The original "Back to the Future" movie came out in 1985. In the movie Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) travelled back in time and inspired his own father into becoming a science fiction writer.

George McFly was transformed into a famous author, instead of a spineless loser after the visit from his son. Marty wore a hazmat suit and used the name Darth Vader when he visited his father.
8. "Handbook for the Recently Deceased"

Answer: Beetlejuice

"Beetlejuice" came out a year before "Batman" and was one of the keys to making Michael Keaton a huge star in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He played the titular character. Alec Baldwin and Gina Davis though were the ghosts who were in need of the "Handbook for the Recently Deceased".
9. "Old Custer" by Eli Cash

Answer: The Royal Tenenbaums

Released in 2001, the movie starred Gene Hackman, Owen Wilson, Anjelica Huston, Ben Stiller and many other big named actors.

It followed a family as the father learned his ex-wife was planning to remarry and he was about to lose his house.

Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson were nominated for an Oscar for Best Screenplay for the movie.
10. "The Hobb's End Horror" by Sutter Cane

Answer: In the Mouth of Madness

Sutter Cane was played by Sam Neill in the 1994 movie. John Carpenter directed and did the scoring of the film. In the movie it is mentioned that Sutter Cane writes scarier stories than Stephen King, and outsells him as well.
