Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Possibly one of the most famous last meals was "The Last Supper" that was shared between Jesus Christ and the Twelve Apostles shortly before his death. Amongst the menu was bread, representing the body of Christ, and wine, representing the blood of Christ. Where did this historic feast supposedly take place?

Answer: Mount Zion

The Canonical Gospels tell how at this very dinner Jesus revealed that one of his Apostles would soon betray him. The apostle who betrayed Jesus turned out to be Judas Iscariot and it was done for the price of thirty pieces of silver. After identifying Jesus with a kiss, later known as "the kiss of Judas", Judas signaled the soldiers of the High Priest Caiaphas, who in turn gave Jesus to Pontius Pilate's soldiers. One most famous depictions of this meal can be seen in Leonardo da Vinci's painting which is also titled "The Last Supper".
2. After being convicted of the April 19, 1995 terrorist bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Timothy McVeigh was sentenced to receive the death penalty. The Oklahoma City bomber decided to order what most people would not consider a proper meal for his last. Which of the following choices was his last meal?

Answer: Two pints of Ben and Jerry's mint chocolate-chip ice cream

Timothy McVeigh was a former member of the United States Army and even won a Bronze Star Medal for his actions during the Gulf War. After failing to become a member of one the Army's most elite units, the Green Berets, McVeigh decided to leave the military and travel around participating in gun shows. McVeigh moved around quite a bit until he settled in Junction City, Kansas. Things then took a turn for the worse as he became a user of methamphetamine. Many things attributed to his actions soon there after, but in the end, the blast killed 168 people including children at a day care center located on the first floor of the federal building.

On a less morbid note, Ben & Jerry's ice cream has been around since 1978 and still features a "free cone day" once a year. Ben & Jerry's is known for its many outstanding ice cream flavors including Cherry Garcia, Chunky Monkey, Karamel Sutra, Phish Food and Vermonty Python.
3. In becoming the first woman executed in America since 1962, our next customer joined this list when her sentence was carried out on November 2, 1984. After killing 4 people, this inmate declined her last meal instead asking for a last snack of Cheez Doodles and a can of Coca-Cola. Can you tell me who ate this meal before getting a lethal injection?

Answer: Velma Barfield

I guess that after killing your husband and some elderly people that you were made the caretaker of, you must need a Coca-Cola to relax. Although Velma became a devout Christian during her time spent on death row including ministering many of the prison staff and fellow inmates she was denied an appeal and executed at the Central Prison in Raleigh, North Carolina.
4. Enough with the people who have done the killing, let's delve into what was on the plate for a victim's last bite. This victim was thought to be murdered by her football playing ex-husband. Can you name me the victim whose last meal of some salad, rigatoni and ice cream may have been served with a bloody glove?

Answer: Nicole Brown Simpson

After dining at the Mezzaluna cafe and then having ice cream with her family, Nicole Brown Simpson returned to her home at about 9:00pm. Nicole's friend, Ron Goldman, had found her missing sunglasses at the restaurant and returned them to her home. Of course the next thing that anyone knows is that both of them were found dead later that night.

Although O.J. Simpson, Nicole's ex-husband, was eventually acquitted after the lengthy and much covered criminal trial he was found to be guilty for the wrongful death of Goldman in a civil trial that took place soon there after.
5. If you are going to prepare a last meal for yourself I guess you had better plan it from early on in life so that you can get it right. Famous French chef Julia Child had given her menu at an interview almost 40 years before her death. Which of the following foods did not show up on the phantom menu?

Answer: Truffles

Julia was a well schooled chef after studying at Le Cordon Bleu cooking school and learning from some of the world's best chefs including Max Bugnard and Simone Beck. I guess that not all things can go as planned because Julia's final meal ended up being French onion soup.

A truffle that weighed 2.6lbs went for $112,000 at a charity auction held in Italy in 2005 and Foie gras is duck or goose liver that has been force fed to become very fat.
6. Do good palates and great reads often go well together? I would say that this next person would prove that they do. Can you tell me who ate the last meal of a New York strip steak, a baked potato, a Caesar salad and some Bordeaux wine while also being the author of "A Farewell to Arms", "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and "The Old Man and the Sea"?

Answer: Ernest Hemingway

Ernest served in the United States Army in WWI and served alongside the Navy on Q-ship during WWII. Hemingway received the Silver Medal of Military Valor in World War I and a Bronze Star (for a War Correspondent-Military Irregular in World War II). Some of the awards given to him for his writing included the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 (for The Old Man and the Sea) and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954 (for his lifetime literary achievements).

Hemingway also wrote many other classics including "In Our Time", "The Torrents of Spring" and "The Sun Also Rises". Sadly, he took his own life on July 2, 1961 with a single shotgun blast to the head.
7. A dozen deep-fried shrimp, French fries, a bucket of original recipe chicken from KFC and a pound of strawberries sounds like a great last meal right? It sounds good to me, but I would definitely stay away from the man who ordered this as his last meal. What was the name of the guy, who killed 33 people and was nicknamed "The Killer Clown", who ordered this as his last meal?

Answer: John Wayne Gacy

"Pogo the Clown" was convicted of 33 murders and he was given 21 consecutive life sentences and 12 death sentences. Every one of his murders took place between 1972 and 1978 and most were done to young men and even little boys. Gacy was a neighborhood favorite because he used to entertain the children at block parties by dressing up as "Pogo" and doing tricks.

A story like his really goes to show you that evil can be found in the most unlikely of places.
8. How about a little cartoon trivia to brighten the darkness of this quiz? The well known food connoisseur Homer Simpson was convicted of murder in a season thirteen episode of "The Simpsons" titled "The Frying Game". Which of the following items was not served to Homer before he was scheduled to go into the electric chair?

Answer: Tofu

In this episode, Homer is convicted of "attempted insecticide and aggravated buggery" after an endangered "screamapillar" (screaming caterpillar) is found living in their pond and Homer accidently steps on it. He had to do some community service and eventually came across a dead old lady while doing his "meals on wheels" work.

After becoming the prime suspect, along with his wife Marge, Homer admits to the murder to let Marge off the hook. It is then revealed that the whole "death" was a joke put on by a hidden camera TV show.
9. I guess that many people would like to have a little something sweet before they pass onto the next life. Which of these following desserts was not on the menu for the second class passengers on the RMS Titanic on April 14, 1912?

Answer: Apple sauce

Unfortunately the second class passengers on the Titanic did not get to feast on the sauce of the Malus domestica that evening, but they did get some ice water. Ok sorry, that was a bad joke. Some of the other delicacies served that evening included consommé, baked haddock and sharp sauce, curried chicken and rice, Spring lamb w/mint sauce, roast turkey, green peas, puree turnips, boiled rice, boiled & roast potatoes, wine jelly, coconut sandwiches, ice cream, assorted nuts, assorted fresh fruits, cheese biscuits and coffee.
10. Talk about tasty, an album titled "Tha Last Meal" was released on December 19, 2000. This album featured tracks including "Lay Low" (featuring Master P, Nate Dogg, Butch Cassidy, Goldie Loc and Tray Deee) and "Set It Off" (featuring MC Ren, Ice Cube, Lady of Rage, Nate Dogg and Kurupt). Who was the hip-hop master that could lay claim to this being his album?

Answer: Snoop Dogg

Although not one of Snoop's highest selling albums, "Tha Last Meal" has sold over 2 million copies worldwide. This album included "Snoop Dogg (What's My Name II)" and had two songs produced by the talented rapper/singer/songwriter/producer Timbaland. This was Snoop's third and final album that was produced by No Limit Records.
