Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On "The Simpsons", Springfield's Chief of Police, Clancy Wiggum, may be a good guy but he is one lousy cop. What are the names of the two officers under his command, one of whom is competent and the other not so much?

Answer: Lou and Eddie

Lou is the competent one who often has to stop and correct Chief Wiggum, particularly in areas of basic policing. As a result, Lou often draws the disdain of Wiggum. Eddie is not very bright but has proven himself to be more competent than Wiggum.
2. In the "Animal Crossing" video game franchise, which of the following best describes the police dogs, Booker and Copper?

Answer: Booker is lazy and forgetful and Copper is over vigilant

Booker is a bulldog who often seems unsure of himself. He often stumbles and stutters over his words. Copper is of a generic dog breed and is more dedicated to his job. He will often tell the player character not to go outside at night. In terms of physical appearance, Copper is more physically fit than the pudgy Booker.

Their role varies depending on which game in the series is being played. In "New Leaf" and the original game, they run the police station and the lost and found. In "Wild World" and "City Folk" they also run the lost and found but also serve as guard dogs watching the town entrance.
3. Steve Guttenberg, Kim Cattrall and Bubba Smith all play police cadets of questionable ability in the first movie in which film franchise?

Answer: Police Academy

Guttenberg, Cattrall and Smith all play new cadets to the policy academy of questionable skills. Due to a shortage of police officers, the academy is forced to allow all applicants to the force to join, regardless of how bad they are at the job. Naturally, hilarity ensues as the cadets often find themselves in ridiculously comical situations, much to the anger of the more serious, senior police officers.

Steve Guttenberg plays Cadet Mahoney. Bubba Smith plays Cadet Hightower and Kim Cattrall plays Cadet Thompson.
4. Officer Jenny is the name given to the many identical looking police officers that can be found in what video game/television franchise?

Answer: Pokemon

Jenny is actually the family or last name of the different officers in the Pokémon world, according to one episode of the anime. All Officers Jenny are young women with blue hair. They are identical looking except for their uniforms which vary region to region. They usually are accompanied by Pokémon that resemble real life police dogs, such as a Growlithe.
5. Which literary detective's father is a New York City police inspector who is often in need of his son's help for the more complicated murders?

Answer: Ellery Queen

Ellery Queen's father is Richard Queen, a police inspector held in the highest esteem. However, Ellery is the one who solves the murders in the novels and lets his father take credit for them. It appears that Inspector Queen is a competent detective in his own right and has solved a number of cases not recorded in the novels.

Inspector Queen gives Ellery a lot of leeway in the investigations, despite Ellery not being a member of the police force. Ellery often acts as if he is a real detective by interrogating people, collecting evidence and even hiding information from his father. Ellery often pushes the line on what is legal though he can always count on his father to brush his wrongdoings away.
6. What is the name of the sheriff that Bob Marley shot in the 1973 song "I Shot the Sheriff"? (HINT: A sheriff of the same name is mentioned in the Inner Circle song "Bad Boys".)

Answer: Sheriff John Brown

"I Shot the Sheriff" is one of Bob Marley's most famous songs and has been covered by many different artists including Eric Clapton. The meaning of the song is not entirely clear but an ex-girlfriend of Marley's claimed that he wrote the song about his opposition to her use of birth control and that the sheriff is really the doctor prescribing her the pills.

The song "Bad Boys" by Inner Circle is probably best known for being the theme song for the TV show "Cops".
7. You've probably seen "tough cop" Elliot Stabler, played by Christopher Meloni, beat up a few perps on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit". But which actress plays the nicer detective, Olivia Benson?

Answer: Mariska Hargitay

Detective Benson can be considered the good cop in the relationship, however she also has her moments as bad cop when she is tough on a suspect. On the flip side, Detective Stabler has his moments as the good cop, but he is more likely than not rough handling a potential murderer or rapist.

Outside of "Law & Order: SVU", Mariska Hargitay is probably best known for being the daughter of the actress Jayne Mansfield and her husband Mickey Hargitay. Christopher Meloni is also known for his role in the comedy film "Wet Hot American Summer".
8. Agatha Christie's famous detective, Hercule Poirot, was a policeman in his early life in which country?

Answer: Belgium

Poirot was a member of the Belgian police force, though exactly what kind is vague. He was forced to flee Belgium for England during World War I, as is told in Christie's first novel "The Mysterious Affair at Styles". Once settled in London, he became a private detective and developed a working relationship with several police officers, including Scotland Yard Inspector James Japp.
9. John Kimble is the name of the undercover cop played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in what 1990 film?

Answer: Kindergarten Cop

Arnold Schwarzenegger plays John Kimble, an LAPD officer who goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher when his partner, Phoebe O'Hara played by Pamela Reed, falls ill. O'Hara was originally the one undercover as the teacher. Kimble and O'Hara are supposed to locate the wife of a drug lord.

The film also stars Penelope Ann Miller as Joyce Palmieri, a teacher with a secret, who falls in love with Kimble.
10. What kind of dog is Hooch in the 1989 police comedy film "Turner & Hooch" starring Tom Hanks?

Answer: French Mastiff

Hooch was played by a French Mastiff (also called a Douge de Bordeaux) named Beasley. Tom Hanks stars as Scott Turner, a bored police officer who is transferred to the more exciting streets of Sacramento from a small town in Northern California. Hooch is the dog of Turner's best friend Amos, played by John Reed, who is murdered. Turner uses Hooch to solve his friend's murder. Hooch is a large dog who slobbers all over the place, much to the annoyance of neat freak Turner.
