Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which ride opened with the renovation of Tomorrowland in 1998 and closed in September of 2000?

Answer: Rocket Rods

Because the sponsor of the ride wouldn't provide funding for banking on the turns (like Test Track at Epcot) the cars had to slow down and speed up rapidly, and the ride broke down a lot. Not to mention the incredibly long wait for the short ride (although I loved it).
2. What land is Star Tours located in?

Answer: Tomorrowland

Star Tours opened with a 60-party when the park didn't close for 60 hours straight.
3. How many types of transportation are there on Main Street (not including the train)?

Answer: Four

The types are Horse Drawn Streetcar, Fire Engine, Horseless Carriage, and Omnibus.
4. What did Disney originally want to do to the tunnels at the front of the park?

Answer: Place sliding curtains when people walked through

He wanted there to be curtains, but was talked out of it when people told him how fast they would wear down. Instead, they used the shadow of the tunnel to create the same effect.
5. When did the Indiana Jones ride open?

Answer: 1995

It took about seven years to make and has remained one of the most popular attractions at Disneyland. It also joins the Matterhorn as attractions the Walt Disney World does not have.
6. What was wrong with the Storybook Land Canal Boats on opening day?

Answer: It didn't have plants

In a rush to get as many attractions operating as possible the Storybook Land Canal Boats opened with basically no scenery except for weeds and other natural plants. Disney had his team make up names for the weeds so it would be interesting.
7. What was different about the Dumbo ride before the renovation of Fantasyland?

Answer: A fountain was added in the renovation

After the renovation of Fantasyland, Dumbo got a fountain under it instead of just ground.
8. Which country did most of the hand carved horses come from on the Carousel?

Answer: Germany

No two of the beautiful horses are alike, all are hand carved and they are about 90 to 110 years old. The turntable for the ride came from Canada and was built in about 1875.
9. Which of the Disneyland coasters was the first of its kind as far as the tracks it ran on?

Answer: Matterhorn

The Matterhorn was the first steel tubed coaster.
10. What is the name of Disneyland's beautiful sailing ship?

Answer: Columbia

It really is beautiful.
11. How many feet did Space Mountain have to be sunk into the ground to keep it in scale with other buildings?

Answer: 17

The building had to be so large, that they sunk it into the ground so as not to dwarf the castle or the Matterhorn.
12. What was the $20 million parade in 1997 that featured mobile stages, tons of effects, among other things, but still didn't go over well?

Answer: Light Magic

Four rolling stages stopped at certain points for a spectacular performance. It went from May to Labor Day 1997.
13. What used to be in the area where the jumping fountains and King Triton are now?

Answer: House of the Future

The House of the Future was replaced after its revelutionary microwave ovens, etc., got kind of un-futuristic.
14. What was the main change in the 1978 renovation of the Matterhorn?

Answer: All of these

The huge renovation of the Matterhorn made it much, much better than before. The hole from the Skyway ride was filled in around 1994.
15. What year did the Main Street Electrical Parade appear for the last time in Disneyland?

Answer: 1996

The parade had its final performance in Disneyland in Nov. of 1996. It began in 1972. You can now catch the performance in California Adventures.
