4. The cat has been with us for thousands of years, it is revered or even worshipped by many cultures and faiths but which of these holy books is the only one to mention the cat?

Answer: Quran

The Quran is the only one of these books to mention the cat, though it is worshiped and revered in many ancient cultures, especially Egyptian and Roman; cats are nowhere to be found in the Bible. As the Tanakh is the first part of the Bible and the Torah is the first part of the Tanakh none of these mention the cat. One theory put forward why they were not included is the hatred felt by the Israelites for the Egyptians after their years of slavery. Or maybe they just preferred dogs!

6. Catgut is used for amongst other things, tennis rackets, guitar and violin strings and surgical sutures but where does it come from?

Answer: It's from goats and sheep intestines

Catgut is a type of cord usually made from the fibre found in the intestines of goats and sheep, though the intestines of cows, pigs and horses are sometimes used. Synthetic materials have replaced many of it's uses but it is still the preferred choice for many stringed musical instruments as it produces a richer and more favourable sound.

9. The cat flap is widely used to help our furry friends come and go at their leisure, which of these eminent scientists is said to be responsible for its invention?

Answer: Isaac Newton

Apparently Isaac Newton was responsible for the invention of the cat flap, or so the story goes! But maybe he wasn't as smart as he thought. While working on his experiments, his cat kept interrupting him by scratching at the door. To resolve the issue, he simply cut a hole in the door. Lo and behold, the cat flap was invented, but when the cat went on to have kittens, he cut another smaller hole in the door, not realising the kittens would follow the mother through the bigger hole.
