Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I was born the same month and day as Abraham Lincoln and the same year as Ralph Fiennes. What is my birthday?

Answer: February 12, 1962

Yep, I am the same age as Voldemort. Other people born February 12 include scientist Charles Darwin, General Omar Bradley, and TV personality Arsenio Hall. People born in 1962 include singer Jon Bon Jovi, actress Demi Moore, and athlete Jerry Rice. The way I got it figured, I'm 29 years old.
2. I grew up in the small town of North Liberty, USA, in the Hoosier state. Which state is nicknamed the Hoosier State?

Answer: Indiana

I actually grew up on a small farm outside of town. I raised rabbits, and helped my Dad with the chickens, pigs and steers. I worked with my mom in the garden. Iowa is the Hawkeye State, North Dakota is the Peace Garden State, and Ohio is the Buckeye State.
3. My first job came when I was still just a kid. I worked on the farm down the road, pulling weeds out of mint and potato fields. I didn't make quite a much as I do today. What was minimum wage for farm workers in 1973?

Answer: $1.30 an hour

Until 1974 there was a separate minimum wage for farm and non-farm labor. At 11 years old they were able to get away with paying me even less. I pulled a buck and a quarter an hour, but for a kid who had never had any money, I felt like King Midas.
4. I went to North Liberty High School. Our mascot was a plant that is a national symbol of Ireland. What is our mascot?

Answer: Shamrock

I went to a small country school where we had K-12 in one building. The leek is a symbol for Wales, the rose is the national flower of England, and Edelweiss represents Austria.
5. I went to college where the mascot is the Purple Aces. It's also where a plane crash tragically killed the entire basketball team in 1977. Where did I matriculate?

Answer: University of Evansville

U of E, as we called it, is an engineering and nursing college in southern Indiana. It also has one of the top drama schools in the country. I was a drama major myself. Pity I never graduated.
6. I got married and we had two kids. My son has the same name as one of the Twelve Disciples of Jesus in the Bible, also steel magnate Carnegie. What did we name him?

Answer: Andrew

Andrew Carnegie built the first steel bridge across the Mississippi. People were afraid that it would not hold up. Carnegie learned that an elephant would refuse to walk on an unsteady platform, so he had an elephant led across his new bridge to prove it was steadfast. The stunt worked and relieved people's fears.
7. My daughter's name is a version of the name of the shrew in Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew," also Ichabod Crane's love interest in Washington Irving's "Legend of Sleepy Hollow." What is she called?

Answer: Katrina

Lenore is the woman Poe writes about in "The Raven." Willamina is the lead female character in Bram Stroker's "Dracula." And Jessica, well, I got her from Jessica Rabbit.
8. I joined the Army and was sent to Germany. I was stationed at Ray Barracks, the same place Elvis Presley was stationed in the 1950s. What town was that in?

Answer: Friedberg

When I was there, an old German man ran the barber shop on post. He had been there when Elvis was stationed there. He had pictures on the wall in the shop of Elvis and the barber, along with displays of the clippers used on Elvis, and bits of his hair.
9. After the Army, I went to work for Airborne Express until they were bought out by a larger delivery company. Which yellow-and-red company bought Airborne Express?

Answer: DHL

Whenever someone asked us what DHL stood for, we'd say something like "delays highly likely" or "don't have lunch." It actually stands for the three men the founded the company,; Dulsey, Hillbloom and Lynne. Unfortunately, after a few years DHL decided to pull out of the American Market.
10. I now work a job that requires me to have something called a CDL-A with HAZMAT endorsement. For what kind of job might I need that?

Answer: Truck driver

CDL stands for commercial driver's license. There are three levels A, B, or C according to the size of vehicle your licensed to drive. I have an A which allows me to drive a big rig. My HAZMAT endorsement means I'm qualified to haul hazardous material. My wife and I are team over the road drivers covering 48 states.
