Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the ghost town in eastern Columbiana County which is said to be haunted by many ghosts?

Answer: Sprucevale

Check it out! I bet you'll love it. It's part of a state park and it's not only haunted, but beautiful too! Some of the ghost stories are the story of Esther Hale (the ghostly bride left at the altar to go insane and die that way), Jakes Lock (the lock where a lockkeeper got struck by lightning and fell into the lock), and of course, Gretchen (the little girl who died of her illness, was entombed into the lock, and when she was removed to be taken back to her native Holland, the ship was lost at sea so she never made it home.)
2. What's the name of the privately owned island that contains a confederate cemetery in Lake Erie?

Answer: Johnsons Island

This is a wonderful place to go on a quiet day. It costs a dollar to go out over the causeway, but its well worth it! The cemetery is said to be haunted by the ghosts of the prisoners held at the prison. One of the most famous ghost stories is that of the group of miners working on the island after the war.

There was a terrible storm quickly approaching (Ohio's weather, crazy) and they sought shelter in the abandoned prison. As they watched out the window at the bronze soldier statue that stands outside, they saw it turn on its pedestal to face the many graves in the cemetery.

They then saw a green mist begin to rise from the ground which took the shape of men in uniform. They watched in horror as the ghosts walked away from their graves, into oblivion.
3. What famous Ohioan tried to invent a machine to talk to the dead?

Answer: Thomas Edison

He thought that sound waves got smaller and smaller on for infinity. In this he thought the voices of ghosts could travel over different planes and he could magnify the sound to make it audible to the human ear.
4. True or false: The Inn in Ohio that is said to be most haunted is called the Major Inn.

Answer: False

Its called the Buxton Inn. Beautiful place to spend a night, or eternity. The house is haunted most famously by the ghost of Major Buxton. Major was his given name, not a military title. And the second most famous ghost is the lady in blue. It haunts rooms 7 and 9 which were her rooms when she died. It's also haunted by a large grey cat, possibly the one on the sign in front?
5. The name of the town with the famous "ghost rider" is Elmore.

Answer: True

This is a story of love and heartbreak. A man came back from the army and bought himself a motorcycle with his pay. He found his girlfriend with another man and took the fateful ride... off a bridge. The story goes that if you drive down the road at night and flash your lights on the bend after the bridge, you will see the single headlight come toward you and then, just before it reaches the end of the bridge, it will disappear.
6. Many of Ohio's colleges are said to be haunted.

Answer: True

Very true. Just to name some there are Bowling Green State U, OSU, Kenyon, and Sinclare Community college. There are many stories from each college. But were they really ghost stories? Or just students who just came home from a LONG night, if you know what I mean...
7. What's the name of the ghost book series by Chris Woodyard?

Answer: Haunted Ohio

It's a good series, it has many of Ohio's ghost stories in it. But my hint to you is, don't read it at night. You won't be able to sleep. Because the stories are told from a personal point of view, you might be able to relate. But that's the last thing you'd want...
8. What is called the most haunted city in Ohio?

Answer: Waynesville

Chris Woodyard called it this in one of the 'Haunted Ohio' books.
9. There is a town in Ohio called "Helltown" because of local legends. (easy one)

Answer: True

heres the site for this one:
http://www.prairieghosts.com/helltown.html
It's a town said to be not so much haunted as cursed. There were supposed to be satanic cults around the area and they put a curse on the place. That's why it's called Helltown.
10. Last one... you've made it this far! good luck! what type of ride is said to be haunted at Cedar Point?

Answer: Carousel

The carousel is said to spin backwards after closing time. Also the people will leave at night to come back and find the horses in a different place than the night before. It's said to be another story of heartbreak. There was a woman who fell in love with the horse on the carousel, after she died, she decided to go back and have some fun with whoever happened to be there at the time... will it be you?
