Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Oh no! You seem to have ended up with lipstick on your collar at the office party. Your wife is going to be pretty ticked off! Quick, what do you do?

Answer: Grab the toothpaste

Toothpaste is the best choice to remove that lipstick stain. Just rub a little toothpaste on the spot and wash as normal. Hairspray is also a good pre-washing agent, along with petroleum jelly or vinegar.
2. After work, on the way to the parking garage, you gracelessly trip over your own two feet and land face down in a pool of your own blood. Unfortunately, the blood also dirtied your new Polo shirt. What is the worst thing you could do when you got home?

Answer: Put it in the washing machine, let it air dry, and wash it again with hot water.

You will almost always have to do a little work before you can put stained clothing in the washing machine. Blood stains are fairly easy to get rid of if you know what to do. The ammonia and meat tenderizer should work very well. If you don't have any cornmeal handy, you can also make a paste of either cornstarch or talcum powder.
3. At the local bar, your best friend seems to have gotten in a bar room brawl. Along with a broken pinky toe, she seems to have gotten a nasty black eye. Well, she's a bit embarrassed, and she doesn't want anybody asking questions. What would you suggest is the best way to cover up the black eye?

Answer: yellow concealer

Black eyes most often appear a dark, bruised blue. Yellow is the complimentary color for blue (in make-up anyway), and the rest is common sense.
4. Oh no! You accidentally broke your wine glass upon receiving the news that the dog urinated all over your new carpet. You don't want a piece of glass stuck in your foot, so you'll worry about the dog urine later. What's the best way to get the most glass off the floor, whether it be tile or carpet?

Answer: use a slice of bread

A slice of bread will pick up the most glass, everytime. The other three choices would work on the larger slivers of glass, but there is something about the moist, sponge-like texture of bread that will do the trick best.
5. Finally, you notice the dog urine on your new rug... Jeez, it stinks! What's the best plan of action?

Answer: blot the urine with a towel and put baking soda on it

You can "absorb" most stains on your carpet with baking soda, cream of tartar, or even cornstarch. For urine or other smelly stains, baking soda would be the best choice, as it will absorb both the urine and the odor!
6. If someone punches you in the face, and your tooth flies out of your mouth, where is the best place to store the tooth until you can see the dentist?

Answer: in a glass of milk

Just in case: Milk will best preserve your tooth as it will be the least abrasive substance on the enamel. Calcium is the key.
7. You and your friends are in a bar, frantically attempting the old tie-the-cherry-stem-with-your-tongue bar trick. Well, it seems that one of your friends has had a little too much to drink, and somehow manages to a) spit the cherry stem on you (untied), and b) get cherry juice on your white jacket. Which food item below would best assist you in cherry stain removal?

Answer: a tomato

For some strange reason, rubbing a ripe tomato on a cherry stain, and then washing the item as normal will, nine times out of ten, remove the stain completely. Believe me, I've seen it done.
8. One of your friends has just broken up with her boyfriend. She has been crying day and night. Now her boyfriend is coming over to her place to pick up the rest of his stuff. She doesn't want him to know that she's been crying--she feels it's a sign of weakness. So, she gets dressed, puts on a little make-up, and then notices the tear stains on her pillow. What is a good substance to use for removing tear stains?

Answer: a solution of aspirin and water

All you have to do is dissolve aspirin or cornstarch in water, and continuously blot the area until it disappears. This method also works for perspiration stains.
9. Eeew! You've washed that shirt a million times and the yellow sweat rings are STILL there! Which liquid would work best to get rid of the nastiness?

Answer: vinegar

Vinegar would definitely be the best choice. Just dab the vinegar on the stain, let it sit or an hour or 2 and wash as normal. You can also soak your clothes in a water/vinegar solution for about an hour. Now, this might be the BEST solution, but it doesn't always work. Sometimes perspiration can mess up fabric forever, but in that case it wouldn't really be a "stain" anymore. Ammonia also helps with those pesky sweat stains.
10. Finally! It's the end of the day. How about a nice glass of white wine? Whoops--you dribbled down your shirt. Aww, jeez, what now?

Answer: Club Soda

Finally, club soda is the answer! It really is the best thing to use when encountering a wine stain. For really tough wine stains on carpet, you can also try using men's foaming shaving cream--it supposedly lifts the wine right from the carpet and you can scrape it up with a spoon or a knife. Neat, huh?
