Question 1 of 15
1. Our place of departure is Gibraltar, on the southern tip of Spain. We board a boat to take us across the Strait of Gibraltar, so we can begin our African tour. After not too long a wait, we dock in Africa. There's one problem. We have not landed in Morocco, but rather Spain! What is this Spanish possession? Hint

Question 2 of 15
2. From there, we board a plane bound to our next destination. We fly over Jeb. Toubkal, the highest point in Morocco. We eventually leave Morocco, and also take a short trip through the Western Sahara. We take a long flight over the deserts of Mauritania as well. After the flight, we finally land in Banjul, the capital city of which country?

Answer: (One or Two Words)
Question 3 of 15
3. Well, we've become tired of flying, so we set sail on a ship from Banjul. We sail south, following the coast of Africa. In somewhat of a short time, we have seen many African countries such as Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, and Guinea. A few hours and a few countries later, we dock in the country that has the most productive chocolate fields in the world. Where might we be? Hint

Question 4 of 15
4. All this recent water is starting to make some of us seasick, so I decide that a little sand wouldn't hurt. Pack your canteens! We're off to the largest desert in the world: the Sahara. Traveling northeast through Burkina Faso, we hit the desert country of Niger. We start to crave water, so I decide to head for the biggest water source for the nation. Located in the southeastern corner of the country, this lake is shared by four countries! What is this 'desert Oasis' called? Hint

Question 5 of 15
5. We must take a long drive through the deserts of Chad to reach our next destination, but it will be worth it. Eventually, we cross into the third largest country in Africa, Sudan. We decide to continue on our journey until we arrive in the capital of Khartoum. We take a rest in Khartoum, but while you wait, here's a question: Sudan is the third largest country in Africa, but how many other countries does it border? Hint

Question 6 of 15
6. Just for the record, we want to see the sea, the Red Sea that is, so we can say that we crossed Africa. The shortest route is directly to the east, so that's where we set off to. We catch a plane from Khartoum this time, and land in Massawa, a city in Eritrea, a short time after. We've reached the Red Sea and crossed Africa. But now we're in a lesser known African country that is Eritrea. Eritrea is a fairly new country, so I ask you this as you gaze over the waters of Moses: Was Eritrea originally a part of Sudan?

Question 7 of 15
7. Down from there, we hitch a ride headed south. We pass through the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. But we don't stop there. We don't get off until we reach Nairobi, Kenya. We get back on after viewing the zoo, and eventually we reach the country that the Nile River starts in. What country are we in?

Answer: (One Word)
Question 8 of 15
8. From there we ride further west into the Democratic Republic of Congo. This country was formerly known as Zaire. The capital of the DRC is extremely close to the capital of another country. What is the capital right across the border? Hint

Question 9 of 15
9. Not too far away, we decide to visit the Atlantic Ocean again. We take a ride to Zaire's very small coast. On either side of us is the same country (not Zaire). But these two parts are not connected. The two bodies belong to Angola. The biggest part of Angola is located to the south, but a small portion is located to the north. What is it called? Hint

Question 10 of 15
10. Now, in a zigzag pattern, we head east again. From Zaire, we travel through Angola and run right into Zambia. We eventually drive up to a small town called Livingstone, near the border with Zimbabwe. It is here that one of the widest and volumnous waterfalls in the world is...or is it?

Question 11 of 15
11. For some strange reason, we suddenly want to visit another desert. To do this, we must travel to Namibia. Namibia is not far away from Victoria Falls. So we grab a cab and head west. Before we know it, we have arrived in Namibia. This is because Namibia has a small strip of land that borders Botswana, Angola, Zambia, and a very small part of Zimbabwe. While we drive through on our way to the desert, what is this strip called? Hint

Question 12 of 15
12. After crossing the country of Namibia, we come to the Namib Desert, which is on the coast. We think it is strange that a desert is on the coast....but there is, and it's very rocky and dry too. What is the nickname for this coast?

Answer: (One Word)
Question 13 of 15
13. We catch a plane from Walvis Bay to Maseru, the capital of Lesotho. Lesotho is a country totally that is surrounded by South Africa. As we know, South Africa has three capitals. Bloemfontein is the closest to Lesotho?

Question 14 of 15
14. Well, we eventually change our minds and want to go to Cape Town. We do this because to complete the journey, we need to go from coast to coast, from the extreme north to the extreme south. So we set off for our final destination, thinking about all the good times we've had. When we arrive, there, is a bay to the east of the city. What is this called? Hint

Question 15 of 15
15. As we prepare to fly back towards home, we talk about all the great times we've had, happy to have completed the trip. There is a delay in the flight schedule (isn't there always?) and for entertainment, I ask you one last question, "As we traveled through Africa, we saw quite a few "Victorias". There was Lake Victoria and Victoria Falls. There is another Victoria in Africa, but this one happens to be the capital of a country? Which country is it?

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Ceuta

Ceuta is a small portion of land, belonging to Spain, that borders Morocco. Tangier and Rabat are cities in the area, and Malaga is a city on the Spanish mainland.

Answer: Gambia

Gambia is one of only two African countries that are bordered by only one other country. Gambia is bordered by Senegal, but it has been blessed with an Atlantic coastline. Lesotho, larger than Gambia, is much less fortunate. They are an 'island' in the sea that is South Africa. Obviously, they are in absence of a coast.

Answer: Ivory Coast

Yes, the Ivory Coast is known for chocolate more than ivory. Haha, but anyway, Ghana was at one time known for its gold. This dubbed Ghana's coast as the 'Gold Coast.' Cameroon, like the Ivory Coast, is a major world authority on chocolate production, but it is not the largest. (Obviously, the Ivory Coast is!) Togo is but a small country squeezed in between Ghana and Benin.

Answer: Lake Chad

Lake Chad is named after one of the countries that it borders, Chad. Lake Chad serves the four countries of Chad, Niger, Nigeria, and Cameroon. All three of the other lakes were made up...

Answer: 7

Sudan is indeed big, it covers an area of 718,723 square miles. Sudan has a northern border with Egypt, a small border with Libya, a western border with Chad and the Central African Republic, and an eastern border with Ethiopia and Eritrea. The southern border is shared with South Sudan.
It is the third largest country in Africa behind Algeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Answer: No

Eritrea was not part of Sudan, but of Ethiopia. Eritrea "stole" Ethiopia's coast on the Red Sea, leaving Ethiopia landlocked.

Answer: Uganda

Uganda is technically a landlocked country, but it still has a lot of water. Lake Victoria takes its southern border. Lake Albert and Lake Edward dot its western border, and the country encases Lake Kioga.
8. From there we ride further west into the Democratic Republic of Congo. This country was formerly known as Zaire. The capital of the DRC is extremely close to the capital of another country. What is the capital right across the border?

Answer: Brazzaville

The capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo is Kinshasa, which is located on the border, near Congo. Congo's capital, Brazzaville, is right across the border. Luanda, Lusaka, and Bangui, are capitals of three of the DRC's border countries. They are nowhere close to Kinshasa though.

Answer: Cabinda

Cabinda is the name of a city in Angola...in the province of Cabinda. The province of Cabinda is separated from Angola by Zaire.
Pointe - Noire is a city in Congo. Soy is a city in Angola. Banana is the city that we're in! On the small coast of Zaire.
10. Now, in a zigzag pattern, we head east again. From Zaire, we travel through Angola and run right into Zambia. We eventually drive up to a small town called Livingstone, near the border with Zimbabwe. It is here that one of the widest and volumnous waterfalls in the world is...or is it?

Answer: Yes

As many of you probably know, the famous Victoria Falls are on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Answer: Caprivi Strip

Yes, we travel throught the Caprivi Strip of Namibia. Once again, all of the decoys are cities. Sesheke is in Zambia. Katima is in the Caprivi Strip. Mucusso is in Angola.
12. After crossing the country of Namibia, we come to the Namib Desert, which is on the coast. We think it is strange that a desert is on the coast....but there is, and it's very rocky and dry too. What is the nickname for this coast?

Answer: Skeleton

This coast off Namibia is called the Skeleton Coast because it is so rocky and dry, kinda like a skeleton!
13. We catch a plane from Walvis Bay to Maseru, the capital of Lesotho. Lesotho is a country totally that is surrounded by South Africa. As we know, South Africa has three capitals. Bloemfontein is the closest to Lesotho?

Answer: True

Bloemfontein is closest to Lesotho. Cape Town and Pretoria are the two remaining capitals. Cape Town is on the coast, near the Cape of Good Hope. Pretoria is toward the northeastern part of the country. Johannesburg is not a capital, but rather the largest city in South Africa. It is located near Pretoria.

Answer: False Bay

All of these bays belong to South Africa, but only False Bay is right next to the famous Cape Town, South Africa. False Bay is made very distinct thanks to the Cape Peninsula.

Answer: Seychelles

The Seychelles is an island nation that we did not get to visit. It is located in the Indian Ocean. As you know, the capital of this small country is the 'ever-famous' Victoria!
And likewise..we are victorious on finishing our Trans-Africa Tour. Thanks for joining us! Have a safe trip home...I hope you didn't feed the lions...
