Officially, rape was against IJA policy.These were empty words because no one was ever charged or punished for raping women. In fact, some officers behaved worse than the enlisted men in this respect.
2. Prince Asaka was responsible for the 'Rape of Nanking'. What happened to him after the war?

Answer: nothing

Prince Asaka was part of the royal family and was never charged for his role in the rape of Nanking. This was outrageous because over 200,000 people were slain and and 20,000 women raped by the IJA.
3. During WWII, what did fall of Hong Kong become known as?

Answer: Black Christmas

The fall of Hong Kong became known as Black Christmas. The garrison surrendered on the 25th of December, 1941. Upon capitulation, the Japanese army committed unspeakable war crimes against the defenders and Chinese civilians.
4. During WWII, what incident led to the Chekiang Massacres in China?

Answer: the Doolittle bombing raid

The Doolittle raid led to the Chekiang Massacre. The Chinese civilians of that province were suspected of aiding and harboring the American flyers who particpated in the raid. In retaliation,the Japanese army killed over 250,000 Chinese in that area.
5. What happened to the majority of the Filippino POWs taken after the fall of the Philippines in 1942?

Answer: the Japanese freed them

The Japanese freed the majority Filippino POWs taken after the fall of the Philippines. There was nothing altruistic or humanitarian about this decsion; it was purely logistical. Freeing them and demobilizing the Filippino Army was easier than feeding them and guarding them.
6. What ethnic group did the Japanese attempt to exterminate after the fall of Singapore?

Answer: the Chinese

After the fall of Singapore, the Japanese set out to exterminate the entire Chinese population of that city. The Kempetai robbed and murdered over 10,000 noncombatants.
7. The Thai-Burma Railway became known as the 'Death Railway'. How did the majority of the POWs die in its construction?

Answer: from cholera

Cholera was the biggest killer in the construction of the Thai-Burma Railway. Untreated, it could kill within hours with intense diarrhea and vomiting, and massive dehydration. The Japanese took no measures to provide medicial treatment for the POWs working on this illegal railroad.
8. What was the 'Japanese gestapo' in WWII?

Answer: the Kempeitai

The Kempeitai or corps of law soldiers became known as Japan's Gestapo during WWII. Its members were skilled in torture and espionage. Twenty-nine of its former members were charged with war crimes and executed after the war.
9. What was the purpose of the Sandakhan Death Marchs?

Answer: to kill the POWs

The sole purpose of the Sandakhan Death Marchs was to kill the POWs. Unlike the Bataan Death March which was to escort POWs but caused unnecessary deaths, this march was intended to kill as many possible.
10. What was Unit 731?

Answer: a secret medical research unit

Unit 731 was a secret medical research unit that operated out of Harbin in northeastern China. Disguised as a water purification unit,it carried out ghastly experiments that ranged from live vivisection to germ warfare. None of the officers that were involved with Unit 731 was ever charged with war crimes.
