The Roman Senate was the main advisory council of the Roman Republic and, later, of the Roman Empire.

The Romans lost the Battle of Allia. As the Gauls were approached, the weaker men at the flanks were routed, thus allowing the Gauls to surround the abler men and slaughter them.

The wars were called the Punic wars because the Latin term for Carthaginian was Punicus.

The Carthaginians were forced to evacuate Sicily, pay a heavy tribute, return all Roman prisoners of war without ransom, give up a small group of islands between Sicily and Africa, and they were not allowed to attack anybody even in self-defence without the Romans' permission. They also took Sardinia three years later.
8. Who was the longest ruling dictator for the Republic?

Answer: Julius Caesar

Elected in 46 B.C. Julius Caesar had the longest reign as the dictator for Rome.

Answer: Battle of Actium

After her 19 legions of infantry and 12,000 cavalrymen deserted, Cleopatra and Mark Antony both committed suicide. Within a month of the battle Octavian was named Pharaoh.
10. Augustus was the first Roman Emperor.

Answer: True

He was the sole rule of Rome from BC 27 till 14 AD, when he died. However, he kept many of the outward forms of Roman Republican rule.
