Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of the earliest (if not the first) Absolut Vodka ad was an Absolut bottle with a halo. This 1981 ad was different in many ways from the current "look" of Absolut ads and was re-published in 1994 with the same name. What is the title of that ad?

Answer: ABSOLUT PERFECTION

"ABSOLUT PERFECTION" was a fledgling effort and the Absolut Vodka advertisement has evolved much since then. It is one of very few ads with the title done in black letters, rather than white. It also lacks the traditional round white spotlight shining behind the bottle.

The bottle was photographed with lighting that made the bottle look full of milk and is thus referred to as a "milk bottle" ad by collectors. Another "milk bottle" ad is "ABSOLUT HEAVEN", which may predate "ABSOLUT PERFECTION" and depicts the Absolut bottle with wings.
2. Over the years, as the Absolut ad campaign grew, "spectaculars" were released. These were ads with a little something extra. One such spectacular was released with gloves by Donna Karan contained within the ad itself. What was the title of this ad?

Answer: ABSOLUT WARMTH

"ABSOLUT WARMTH" gloves came in blue, red, yellow and purple, representing Absolut Vodka, Absolut Peppar, Absolut Citron and Absolut Kurant, respectively. To my knowledge, there has never been an ad called "ABSOLUT MERRY CHRISTMAS" or one called "ABSOLUT PRESENT." "ABSOLUT GIFT," another spectacular, featured a pocket square by Nicole Miller.
3. Many Absolut ads have the same picture with a different title. One such ad depicts a boardwalk going over a sand dune. The boardwalk forms the bottle shape. Which of these has NOT been a title for the ad described?

Answer: ABSOLUT MARTHA'S VINEYARD

This ad has also been titled "ABSOLUT SEABREEZE" for a table-topper done by the Absolut campaign, but that was not done as a magazine or newspaper advertisement.
4. "ABSOLUT AWOL", "ABSOLUT HOUDINI" and "ABSOLUT WELLS" all had one thing in common. What did these three ads have in common?

Answer: None of these ads had an Absolut bottle or an Absolut bottle shape.

"ABSOLUT AWOL" and "ABSOLUT HOUDINI" are essentially the same picture, of just the spotlight with nothing there. "ABSOLUT WELLS" depicts the spotlight with the writing from the bottle where it's supposed to be, but no bottle. AWOL is a military acronym for "absent without leave". Houdini was a master escape artist. H.G. Wells wrote "The Invisible Man", published in 1897.
5. In a take off on MAD Magazine's classic "fold-in", which Absolut ad featured a story that, when folded in, brought the two halves of an Absolut bottle together?

Answer: ABSOLUT MERGER

Though clearly an homage to MAD, the ad was not done in their traditional "fold-in" style, where the image is not revealed until the page is folded. In "ABSOLUT MERGER", the two bottle halves are simply there, with a story in the middle. The long-winded paragraph at the bottom reads "ABSOLUT MERGER" when the ad is folded.
6. The Absolut ad campaign generally issues one fashion collection every year. A fashion collection is a collection of ads where each ad depicts a fashion designer's work with an Absolut theme. Which of these magazines has not published an Absolut fashion collection?

Answer: New York Magazine

The Toronto Life Fashion Magazine published a Canadian Fashion Collection in 1992 and one in 1993. Vogue Magazine published fashion collections in 1989, 1995, 1997 and 1999. GQ published a 1991 Men's Fashion Collection. New York Magazine, though they have published eight spectaculars, they have published no ad collections
7. When Absolut Vodka began producing flavored vodka (Citron, Peppar, etc.), they would promote those flavors by running ads such as ABSOLUT CITRON. Different ads named ABSOLUT CITRON ran with many different yellow objects arranged in the bottle shape. Which of these objects has not been used to depict the bottle in an ABSOLUT CITRON ad?

Answer: canaries

ABSOLUT CITRON has also been represented by seeds in a lemon slice shaped like Absolut bottles.
8. One of the most prolific Absolut ads of all time, and one of the first in the campaign, depicts a martini glass next to a bottle of Absolut Vodka. The martini glass is bending toward the bottle. What is the name of this ad?

Answer: ABSOLUT ATTRACTION

"ABSOLUT ATTRACTION" has run over 120 different times since 1980.
9. True or False: The Absolut campaign has run an ad called "ABSOLUT COLLECTION."

Answer: True

ABSOLUT COLLECTION ran once with lots of little pictures of ads on a page, once with small ads as stickers and once the ad was accompanied by one of five gift bags designed by five different print artists.
10. Which of these Absolut spectaculars was published first?

Answer: "ABSOLUT IMPRESSION." - a white sheet embossed with the bottle shape

"ABSOLUT PUZZLE/SOLUTION" was run in New York Magazine, 1991. "ABSOLUT WISHES/GIVER" ran in New Yorker Magazine in 1993. The "ABSOLUT REFLECTION" spectacular was from Spy Magazine in 1989. "ABSOLUT IMPRESSION" was run in New York Magazine in 1987.
