Grapes are berries, like raspberries, strawberries and blueberries.
Examples for citrus fruit are: Grapefruit, lemon and oranges.
Drupes include stone fruit like cherries, plums and peaches.
Examples for nuts are: Coconut, hazelnut and walnut.
2. What are raisins?

Answer: Dried grapes

There are many different types of raisins.
The four most common varieties are: Sultanas, Currants, Muscat and Dark Raisins (which are usually made from Thompson Seedless).
3. Which of the following vitamins are NOT found in grapes?

Answer: Vitamin D

Grapes are full of goodness and contain lots of vitamins (A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, C, E and K), nutrients and fibre.
However, the 'Sunshine Vitamin' D is not present in grapes. Vitamin D is only found in a limited range of foods such as eggs or oily fish and is mostly taken in by directly exposing your skin to sunlight.
4. Of the following options, which (fresh) fruit has MORE calories than (raw) grapes?

Answer: Dates

Grapes have a quite high content of sugar, and hence also have a higher calorie content than most other fruit.
100g of grapes contain approx. 60 calories, 100g of fresh dates contain 108 calories
100g of cherries contain 53 calories, 100g of raspberries contain 25 calories, 100g of pineapple contains 38 calories.
5. What is the process of turning grape juice to wine called?

Answer: Fermentation

The process of making grapes to wine is called fermentation.
Yeast, serving as a catalyst, is added to the grape juice or pulp, to support the process of fermentation.
The fermentation process will last till all the sugar has changed into alcohol or the level of alcohol in the juice reaches approximately 15%.
6. Staying on the subject of wine making: What part of a grape may be included in the process of making red wine that's not included when making white wine?

Answer: The Skins

The mixture for making red wine of crushed grapes, their skins and seeds is called the pulp or must. Most of the time the grapes will get destemmed before fermentation, as they can lead to a bitter taste. Red wine is fermented grape juice, skin and seeds while white wine is fermented grape juice either from white grapes or from red grapes with the skins getting removed as soon as possible after crushing.
7. Which of the following options is NOT a red variety of grapes?

Answer: Sultana

Thompson Seedless is also a popular white/green grape variety.
The three main types of grapes are: European grapes (Latin name Vitis Vinifera, these can be used as table grapes, raisins and wine production), French hybrids (mainly used for wine production) and North American grapes (Vitis Labrusca and Vitis Rotundifolia, mainly used for juicing and as table grapes).
8. The polyphenol antioxidant resveratrol occurs naturally in grapes and is said to inhibit which of the following diseases?

Answer: Cancer & Heart Disease

Also, another example is Alzheimer's Disease.
Beyond its presence in grapes, resveratrol is also found in peanuts, mulberries, dark chocolate and cocoa powder.
9. Now an easy one. Where do grapes grow?

Answer: On vines

Grapes grow on perennial and deciduous woody vines of the genus vitis. A vine is a climbing or trailing plant.
10. What could be a reason for the loss of potential health benefits of eating fresh grapes in recent years?

Answer: The increase of seedless varieties of grapes

This is because the grape seeds contain phytochemicals such as resveratrol. Due to the lack of seeds in seedless grapes, they lose some of the health benefits (as stated under question 8) of eating grapes.
