Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Act 1, who said the following quote? "Set honor in one eye and death i' the other, And I will look on both in differently, For let the gods so speed me as I love The Name of honor more than I fear death."

Answer: Brutus

Brutus says this to Cassius to tell him that he would rather die than do anthing dishonorable. This was the way most Romans, like Brutus, thought at the time. This actually is a foreshadowing of Brutus' death.
2. In Act 1, who says this quote? "I was born free as Caesar; so were you: We both have fed as well, and we can both Endure the winter's cold as well as he..."

Answer: Cassius

When Cassius tells this quote to Brutus, he was very angry at Caesar for being offered a crown. He was jealous of Caesar for being weak and yet still having people wanting him to be king. Cassius is saying that he and Caesar are equal, but Caesar has a few flaws that make him a bad choice for a king.

This quote is an introduction to a short story that Cassius tells about Caesar's problems.
3. In the beginning of Act 1, which noble ordered the Roman citizens with this quote? "Go, go, good countrymen, and, for this fault, Assemble all the poor men of your sort; Draw them to Tiber banks, and weep your tear Into the channel, till the lowest stream Do kiss the most exalted shores of all."

Answer: Flavius

When Julius Caesar killed Pompey, the Roman citizens celebrated his victory in their city. This made Flavius and Marullus, who were nearby, angry that such men betrayed their previous leader. After confronting them, they send them away in order for them to clean up the mess the citizens made.
4. In Act 2, who talks to himself and says this quote? "And therefore think him as his kind, grow mischievous, and kill in the shell."

Answer: Brutus

At the time, Brutus was figuring out if he should kill Caesar or not. He came to a conclusion when he compared Caesar to a serpent's egg. He knew that if Caesar were to become king, then he would hatch and become a tyrant. Brutus thought that if he killed Caesar "in his shell," before becoming king, he would prevent such a thing from happening.
5. In Act 2, who says the following quote? "...But when I tell him he hates flatterers, he says he does, being then most flattered. Let me work; For I can give his humor the true bent. And I will bring him to the Capitol."

Answer: Decius

Decius, one of the conspirators, was confident that he could convince Caesar to go to the capitol. He knew the perfect way to bring Caesar was to flatter him. He knew that feeding Caesar's ego would do the job.
6. In Act 3, who says the following words? "Et tu, Brute! Then fall, Caesar."

Answer: Caesar

Caesar was stabbed various times by each conspirator. When it came to be Brutus' turn, Caesar said these words. Brutus' stab affected Caesar the most, being the last stab he took before dying and the most emotionally of the stabs. Caesar was saddened when he saw Brutus, his friend, betray him and try to hurt him.
7. In the beginning of Act 3, who said this quote? "I could be well moved, if I were as you: If I could pray to move, prayers would move me."

Answer: Caesar

It is said that these lines were also mentioned in one of Shakespeare's other famous plays, "Romeo and Juliet". These weren't the only words that were repeated in other plays; quotes can also be spotted in his many works.

Quotes or words can also be seen repeated in the same play. Shakespeare does this in order to grab the reader's attention and to help the less attentive figure out exactly what is going on in the play.
8. Who said the following quote? "O mighty Caesar! Dost thou lie so low? Are all thy conquests, glories, triumphs, spoils, shrunk to this little measure? Fare thee well."

Answer: Antony

When Marc Antony saw Julius Caesar's corpse, he said this quote to him. He acted calm and collected in front of the conspirators, but when they went out of earshot, he told Caesar that he will take revenge for him.
9. Which of these characters said the following quote? "Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once."

Answer: Caesar

In Act 2, Caesar tells this to his wife after she had a dream about Caesar's death and warned him not to go to the capitol. Caesar replies with this quote to say that he wasn't afraid of death and to say that those who do would "die many times" during their lives.
10. Who said this quote? "I am Cinna the poet, I am Cinna the poet."

Answer: Cinna the poet

Poor Cinna. He shared the same name as one of the conspirators and so was killed. An angry mob, persuaded by Antony, wreaked havoc among the city and killed many innocent people thinking they were part of the conspiracies. Cinna was one of the many victims who were mistaken to be conspirators.
