Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This 2001 film stars Samuel L. Jackson as a homeless man who stumbles into a complex murder-mystery. A famous photographer may be the murderer and Samuel's character may be the only one to stand up for the victim. He must battle his own mental illness and the indifference of the authorities in order to solve the mystery.

Answer: The Caveman's Valentine

Although this film didn't do well, it is fairly well made and entertaining. The film was directed by Kasi Lemmons who is most famous for directing the film "Eve's Bayou".
2. This 2001 film stars Antonio Banderas as a Catholic priest who investigates a tomb containing a crucified body. Is it Jesus? Only Antonio Banderas' character can find the truth.

Answer: The Body

This is actually a decent film. In the era of "The DaVinci Code" and "The Historian", it is a little simple, but it is still worth a look. Check out the interesting performance by "Cadfael's" Derek Jacobi (also a Kenneth Branagh favorite).
3. This high school romantic comedy stars Kirsten Dunst, Sisquo, Ben Foster, and Colin Hanks. It tells the story of a high schooler who loses his girlfriend and must attempt to win her back. This is actually a musical as much as anything else.

Answer: Get Over It

This is a surprisingly entertaining film. "Ella Enchanted" director, Tommy O'Haver, gives an early glimpse at his clever directing style. Is it just me, or does Colin Hanks look nothing like either of his parents?
4. This very funny but uneven film stars Josh Hartnett as a young hairdresser who, with the help of his dysfunctional family, attempts to win the annual British Hairdressing Championship.

Answer: Blow Dry

The film co-stars Alan Rickman (oh that Hans Gruber), Natasha Richardson, and two great Rachels - Leigh Cook and Griffiths.
I realize I am easily entertained, but this was a decent movie. Josh Hartnett doesn't break out of his Keanu Reeves acting style, but the other actors hold this one together. There is a cool appearance by Bill Nighy as the hairdressing nemesis.
5. This terrible movie (originally released in 2000 and then re-released in 2001 for some unknown reason) stars Dolph Lundgren as one of the last survivors after a massive Los Angeles earthquake. People are also catching some unexplained virus for no apparent reason. It co-stars no one you have probably heard of.

Answer: The Last Patrol

Think..."Mad Max", but really bad and with Mel Gibson replaced by Dolph Lundgren. This movie makes "Waterworld" look like a masterpiece. It was directed by Sheldon Lettich (of "Rambo 2" and "3" fame).
6. This film stars Jordana Brewster on a quest to investigate the death of her sister (Cameron Diaz). Set in the 70s, this odd film jumps around in time and place, making it difficult to follow.

Answer: The Invisible Circus

The sister realizes that the truth is not always what we want it to be and that there are no simple answers. The film co-stars Christopher Eccleston and Blythe Danner and ends at the site of the sister's death. Look for the strange drug induced cinematography. I think someone was watching "Easy Rider" a little too often.
7. This film stars Kerr Smith as a teenager driving cross country. (When will teenagers learn not to take road trips on lonely country/desert roads?) He picks up a hitchiker who happens to be a vampire hunter and becomes embroiled in a war against a vampire clan.

Answer: The Forsaken

This film is a nice waste of time. The climax takes place at a deserted hotel (or is that "John Carpenter's Vampires"? - seems like the same movie sometimes). Jonathan Schaech plays the lead vampire. It will not stun you, but it won't put you to sleep. If you recognize the female vampire, Izabella Miko, she was one of the girls in "Coyote Ugly".
8. This movie tells the story of a man who bumps into an old high school friend. The friend appears to be well-off and insinuates himself into the lives of the man and his wife. Things turn creepy as the man seems overanxious to please. Is he even a high school friend?

Answer: With a Friend Like Harry

This odd little film did well on the festival circuit, but made less than 5 million dollars in the U.S. It is dark, funny, and strange all at once It's worth a look, but don't expect too much. Great performances and an odd script make for an interesting two hours. "Chuck & Buck" is thematically similar (and adds a homo-erotic subtext), but much more entertaining.
9. Dennis Hopper plays a crazed terrorist (I know, shocking isn't it?) When his girlfriend is arrested, Tom Sizemore and Steven Seagal play the men who must stop him from blowing up the city.

Answer: Ticker

Wait, is there a bus that can't go below 55 m.p.h.? This movie "stars" Steven Seagal, Dennis Hopper, Tom Sizemore, Jaime Pressly, and Nas.
Dennis Hopper and Jaime Pressly as a couple (40 year spread) - c'mon - Steven Seagal's acting is more believable than that. This is an entirely derivative film with nothing new to offer. It's directed by Albert Pyun who directed the worst film ever - "Adrenaline: Feel the Rush". If you don't believe me, I dare you to sit through it.
10. This film features the voice of Robert Guillame as Mr. Thicknose, a character determined to help the young people in the community overcome "racism" and rescue their friends.

Answer: The Land Before Time 8: The Big Freeze

Mr. Thicknose shows the dinosaurs that regardless of their breed, they must work together to survive. I have a four year old and a three year old. These films never fail to keep their attention. I'm not sure why, but then I'm not the intended audience. Depending upon your religious persuasion, be prepared for a summary of evolution at the beginning of each film.

By the way, Guillame is still alive and doing lots of voice work as of 2006. Rumors of his demise have been going strong for the last few years.
