Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Just before his car crash, Eun-Soo is arguing with his girlfriend Haeyoung. What are they arguing about?

Answer: She feels he is being unsupportive of her pregnancy.

Eun-Soo is on the way to see his estranged mother, who is seriously ill in the hospital. He receives a phone call from his girlfriend, Haeyoung, and we discover that she is four weeks pregnant. She complains that Eun-Soo is not showing an interest, or spending time with her. Eun-Soo seems to want to escape from the responsibility of being a father.
2. After his accident, Eun-Soo is found by Younghee. When he asks her why she is wandering in the forest by herself, what does she tell him?

Answer: She is looking for her sister's hairclip.

Younghee does appear to sleepwalk at various points in the film, but at this point she is wide awake. She tells Eun-Soo that she is looking for a lost hairclip belonging to her younger sister, Jeongsun. Later on, whilst trying to escape from the forest, Eun-Soo finds the hairclip and returns it to Jeongsun.
3. After staying with the family for the first night, what is Eun-Soo served for breakfast?

Answer: Cakes and sweets

Eun-Soo goes downstairs to find an enormous plate filled with cupcakes and gummy bears. The parents tell him that they sometimes serve this sort of meal because it makes the children happy. The parents do not eat the meal themselves. Later on in the film the children serve meat stew to their guests, without informing them of its grisly ingredients.
4. The television in the house only seems to show one cartoon, which loops around over and over. Which animals are featured in the cartoon?

Answer: A rabbit and a bear

The television shows a black and white cartoon of a rabbit chasing a teddy bear. Every few seconds, it catches the bear and tears off a body part - legs, ears, etc. When this finishes, the cartoon starts all over again. Eun-Soo spends some time flicking through all the channels, but this cartoon is on every station except one, which features an old new broadcast of children being interviewed about Santa Claus. Eun-Soo then discovers that there is no power going to the TV, even though it is still playing.
5. When Younghee and Jeongsun are playing in the garden with Eun-Soo, what is in the pram Jeongsun pushes around?

Answer: Doll's heads

Jeongsun runs around the garden with her sister, whilst pushing a pram filled with broken doll's heads. They beg Eun-Soo to play with them, then to tell them a story. He tells them the story of his own life, though they think at first it is a normal fairy story. Younghee starts to realise that Eun-Soo needs to leave to take care of his baby, but Manbok and Jeongsun are still determined that he will stay.
6. What does Manbok turn the children's "mother" into?

Answer: A china doll

The two people Eun-Soo initially believes to be the children's parents are actually just two strangers whose car broke down nearby. The children refused to let them leave. When Eun-Soo arrived, they made a bid for freedom, but the woman ended up hiding in the attic, after realising there was no way out of the forest. Once she is in the attic, this too becomes a maze, and she cannot find her way out. Manbok takes Younghee, who is sleepwalking at the time, into the attic, and watches as she dresses "mother" up as a doll.

When she then wishes that she really had a doll so beautiful and lifelike, Manbok grants her wish. Eun-Soo later finds the doll, and accidentally breaks her.
7. What does Kyeong-Sook accuse the children of stealing?

Answer: A ring

Kyeong-Sook is the wife of Deacon Byun, and she has a very unpleasant streak. She is rude and unpleasant to the children as soon as she meets them, and when she realises that they are unsupervised, she begins to plot to steal their valuables. She accuses the children of stealing a ring which belonged to her - particularly Jeongsun, who wears multiple strings of necklaces.

After getting rid of Kyeong-Sook, the children find the missing ring, and Jeongsun places it onto one of her necklaces.
8. Manbok initially decides not to reveal his powers to their new "parents", but he is angered when Jeongsun injures herself, and "father" refuses to help her. How does she hurt herself?

Answer: She steps on broken glass.

Jeongsun and Younghee are racing around the living room, and they knock over a glass. When they stop playing, they notice that Jeongsun has stepped in the glass, and is bleeding heavily from her foot. She starts to scream and cry, and Manbok begs "father" to help, but instead he just gets up and walks away. Later, Manbok gets angry again when the parents are arguing, and uses his powers to break up the fight.

They now realise they are dealing with something beyond their control, and begin to do everything the children desire.
9. During the flashback, Santa Claus gives the children a box of biscuits and candy, and which other gift?

Answer: A book

The children are visited by a man in a Santa suit whilst in the children's home, and given these gifts. The man, and the woman he visits with, have no idea that the children are abused and raped regularly, or that there are other children in the home on the verge of death.

The book is "Hansel and Gretel", and it gives the children the key idea of the film - that all the "bad adults" should be punished.
10. Who tells Eun-Soo what he needs to do to be free of the children?

Answer: Younghee

Manbok is extremely angry that Eun-Soo still wants to leave even after knowing what happened to them in the children's home. Although Younghee wants Eun-Soo to stay, she knows that he will soon be a father, so she advises him to burn the notebook which chronicles his story, claiming that this will erase him from the children's memories. Eun-Soo does this, and wakes to find himself back on the outskirts of the forest.

The film concludes a year later, with Eun-Soo wondering how the children are doing.

He receives another notebook, this time with only one illustration, showing the three children smiling and happy.
