Answer: The Marathons

Billboard number 20, June 20, 1961. This group which was active from the late 50's to the mid 70's had another song on the charts at the same time. "The Watusi" recorded by The Jayhawks, was actually the same group. It reached #25. They also later recorded under the name "The Vibrations."
2. "Stranger OnThe Shore" made number one on the charts in 1962 for this guy. What name did he use?

Answer: Mr. Acker Bilk

Billboard number one, May 26, 1962. Born in England in 1929, Bilk was a jazz clarinetist, who started his career in the mid 1950's after leaving the British army. He semi-retired in the 1990's and took up painting.
3. This group of ladies sang about the things their guy loved in 1963. "Popsicles and Icicles" was immortalized by whom?

Answer: The Murmaids

Billboard number ten, November 7, 1963. The trio of sisters Carol and Terry Fischer along with friend Sally Gordon recorded this song in 1963 as minors aged 15 and 17. They never were paid a penny for the recording and never cut another record.
4. "Liar Liar" was put to music in 1965 by this group. Who teased their way into the Top 20 with this hit?

Answer: The Castaways

Billboard number 12, October 23, 1965. This garage rock band, from Minnesota never had another hit. The song was featured in the movie "Good Morning Vietnam" and was performed in the 1967 beach movie "It's A Bikini World."
5. In 1966 "Black Is Black" soared into the Top 5 for this group. What was their name?

Answer: Los Bravos

Billboard number four, October 4, 1966. The group was based in Madrid, Spain and formed in 1965. The lead singer, Mike Kogel, was from Germany. The band was having success in the UK in 1967 when one of its members, Manny Fernandez committed suicide after his wife died in an auto accident in a car he was driving. He was 23.
6. The song "Everlasting Love" has made it onto the Billboard charts more than once. The original was done in 1967 by this guy. What was his name?

Billboard number 13, November 18, 1966. Knight started as a member of "The Paramounts" in 1960. After that group broke up he formed a group called "The Fairlanes". In 1967 he signed a solo contract and recorded his only hit. It has been covered by Carl Carlton in the 1970's and Gloria Estafan in the 1990's among others.

Billboard number 12, August 3, 1968. Also known as "Quo" or "The Quo", this group, although being a one hit wonder in the US, has (according to research) charted over 60 hits in the UK, more than ANY other rock group in history. Think about that for a while. Formed in 1962, they are still active and recording today.

Answer: Wind

Answer: Jose Jimenez

Billboard number 19, October 2, 1961. Created by comedian Bill Dana in 1959, the character of Jose Jiminez showed up on many of the variety shows of the time including "The Steve Allen Show" and "The Ed Sullivan Show". Dana himself was of Hungarian and Jewish ancestry, and played many roles with the Jimenez character and accent.
10. In 1962, contrary to popular belief "Telstar" made it to the Number one as the first group from Great Britain to top the charts. Who did it?

Answer: The Tornadoes

Billboard number one, December 22, 1962. Yep, The Tornadoes preceded The Beatles by almost fifteen months in the number one position. There had been a couple of other single recording artists to top the charts from overseas, but they were the first "Group" to do it.
