Composer Felix Bernard and lyricist Richard "Dick" Bernhard Smith published "Winter Wonderland" in 1934. The first recording of the song was by Richard Himber that year. My favorite recordings are by Andy Williams and Johnny Mathis.

Answer: The Christmas Song

Mel Tormé and Bob Wells wrote "The Christmas Song" in 1945. Though many artists have produced lovely versions of the song, the definitive rendition was laid down by Nat "King" Cole in 1961.

"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" was written by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blaine for Judy Garland to sing in the 1944 MGM film "Meet Me in St. Louis". It has two well known lyric variations. Besides Judy's, my favorite renditions are by Andy Williams and Engelbert Humperdinck.

Answer: Santa Claus Is Coming to Town

Haven Gillespie and John Frederick Coots wrote "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" in 1934. After Eddie Cantor sang it on his radio show at Thanksgiving (the end of November), the song became an instant hit. It sold some five hundred thousand copies in sheet music virtually overnight, while recordings also sold very well. Among the earliest recordings were those of Harry Reser and His Orchestra with Tom Stacks on vocal and George Hall and the Hotel Taft Orchestra, vocal by Sonny Schuyler. My favorite recordings of the song include those by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters, Ella Fitzgerald, and Michael Feinstein.

Bing Crosby was the first to record Buck Ram and Walter Kent's touching 1943 ballad "I'll Be Home for Christmas". Unsurprisingly, this is the most requested holiday song at USO shows. Besides Bing's recording, my favorites are those by The Carpenters and Engelbert Humperdinck.

Gene Autry's recording of this 1949 tale about an unlikely holiday hero reached Number One the week of Christmas that year and stayed at the top spot through the week that ended Jan. 7, 1950. My favorite recording of the song is by Barry Manilow.

Frank Loesser wrote this wistful song in 1947. It was first recorded that same year by Margaret Whiting. Less often recorded than the other songs in this quiz, it nonetheless remains a beloved part of the holiday repertoire. My favorite recording is by The Carpenters.
